Stunner...Breen Gone
Sam Breen has requested and received her release from UD.
http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/h...s/201704070212
I wonder if the new coach at FAU has anything to do with this...

Gut punch...she will do well wherever she lands...but wow!
I gotta believe the loss of Coach Ard and Coach House may have been a contributing factor as well.

She won't be allowed to sign with any A-10 team or any team on UD's schedule next season. Maybe they should have added FAU.

That entire nationally ranked class is now done. None of them will arrive. Shauna has yet to catch a single break yet. Not one. Everybody bailed on her. Injuries. Now most of staff is gone. I realize everybody has to do whats best for themselves, but Green has been the one taking every shot to the chin.

Breen signs with Dayton back in November - after JJ bails. Since then, Shauna has led the Flyers to an A-10 conference title, an A-10 tournament title, the NCAA tournament, and Green was named national rookie coach of the year. All very positive. What negative item caused Breen to change her mind in the last 5 months? Ard and House leaving? Hard to believe that is the reason. Per the newspaper article - She was worried about risking a 1% chance she would not be happy at Dayton? Goodness, the risk anywhere else would be much greater than that.
I can't see her going to FAU. I doubt she would threw everything away to go to a team that won 4 games last year - even with JJ coaching.
I will not speculate. It will be interesting to see where she ends up. She sure did not make a good impression by making this switch at this point in the recruiting process. It sure puts Shauna in a difficult spot. Again, per the newspaper article, she and her dad met with Green on Thursday. Her mind had to have been made up before she met with Shauna. That being said - If a player doesn't want to be here, no sense keeping them around. All I can say is something does not compute here.

Don't forget John Miller (Archie's Dad) that was her personal trainer. Now that Archie is gone perhaps the Miller sting has reached out further.
Did Ard and House leave on their own, or did Shauna release them, don't have any particulars. Somehow I feel that with Archie leaving and John not going to be around for her was the kicker. She seemed to lean on him alot. If that is the case she will resurface at......Indiana, with John being close by for Archie.....and her.

Avid, My thoughts exactly. If any former coach enters into this, it's not Jabir.

Every time we got depressed about the recruits, we all said that at least we have Breen. Now we have Dick Ziegler. Hopefully Green can steal a couple from somewhere else, but the cupboard is now officially bare. This and the Wright pullback have depressed the heck out of me.

Is it me or is it really quiet about what is happening from a recruiting standpoint now that Breen has backed out?

Breem gone - Erin Boley
Per Jburr91's post, Erin Boley 6'2" from Elizabethtown KY is transferring out of ND. During JJ's time and her high school years there were indications that some level of recruiting her was done by UD.
Given her home location, this is definitely worth a try by SG. Do not know what she is looking for in her next school. Could be another Justine Ratterman type player.

Didn't know anything about their WBB so I looked up some records.
2016-17
Overall: 15 - 16 ACC: 3 - 13 Home: 11 - 5 Away:1 - 8 Neutral:3 - 3
No Postseason Tourney
2015-16
Overall: 14 - 18 ACC: 4 - 12 Home: 11 - 9 Away:1 - 8 Neutral:2 - 1
No Post season
Va Tech has made the NIT the last 2 years. Penn State made it last year. Not sure what she is looking for, but it appears to me she is not getting offers from better programs, just bigger schools.

This probably the best fit for her as she seems like the type not ready to leave home.
She will be able to help Penn State get to the final four and even win the national title.....in WNIT.

Yeah but it's her state school which she most likely identifies with like those in Ohio do to tOSU.

She didn't get too many looks from top programs. A birdie said she had an interview with a top program and the coach said she should have stayed at Dayton for at least a year. Asking for a release that late in the season didn't send a good message about her word.
Time to ask for a release was when Jabir stepped down not when she did.
Right now in Pottstown, Pa met some Dug fans

Sam Breen found out
through Twitter the Penn
State women’s basketball
team might be interested in
her. Monday, Breen decided
she wanted to make more
than a social media connection
with the Nittany Lions.
Breen, a girls basketball
star at Cardinal Wuerl North
Catholic, will sign with Penn
State.
“The stress is off now —
again,” Breen said, with a
laugh.
When Breen signs with
Penn State, it will be her
second signature on a letter
of intent. In November, she
signed with the University of
Dayton. But last month, Breen
asked for, and was granted, a
release from Dayton. She reopened
her recruiting, which
is when Penn State and Twitter
entered the story.
Shortly after Breen
tweeted that she had received
her release from Dayton, she
noticed that Penn State assistant
Jocelyn Wyatt followed
her on Twitter. “I don’t know,
when a coach follows you on
Twitter, you assume that they
might be interested,” Breen
said. “So I followed her back.”
Then Wyatt sent a direct
message to Breen, and Breen
supplied her phone number.
Next thing you know,
Breen visited Penn State
April 17. Two weeks later, she
decided she wanted to play
for Penn State. Virginia Tech
was her other top choice.
North Carolina also offered
a scholarship last week, and
Breen thought about visiting
the Tar Heels. But the timing
wasn’t right.
“Penn State said it wasn’t
100 percent guaranteed that
the scholarship would be
there [after Monday],” said
Breen.
So Breen gladly took up
Penn State on the offer.
“For a big school, it doesn’t
seem all that big to me. The
campus isn’t that spread out,”
said Breen. “I got along with
the coaches really well, too.
Three of them played in the
WNBA. I thought that was
really cool.”
Breen averaged 23 points,
10 rebounds and 4 assists per
game this past season and
finished her career as the
10th-leading scorer in WPIAL
history with 2,488 points.

Kinda suspected this would be the eventual outcome when Breen opted out of Dayton commit. Would still love to see her in Flyers uniform.

WBB: Sam Breen, 6-1 sophomore forward out of Gibsonia, PA, is no longer listed on the Penn State roster and is transferring. She played in their first 4 games this season: 3 PPG in 10.5 MPG. Ranked #65 in the 2017 class per espnW.

Seems like we are already in a pattern of taking other program's players who "had" potential. How about more HS recruits, who can play at a top level?
