Wow, Bonnies pull it off as Posley hits a circus lay-up for the win 73-71. Second game in a row he hit a game winner at the buzzer.
Some exciting finishes in the A-10 lately...

Huh, the A-10 tourney comes before the NCAA tourney. First got to take care of business in with the rest of the season and especially in the A-10 tourney. Otherwise we won't be in the NCAA this year.

Yeah, I have to admit the Bonnie's basket made me think of last night and what should have been, but the game does show it is tough to win on the road and that it is not a given that the conference will go to VCU.
Fordham up 12 - 0 over St Louis.

I would rather make the NCAA tourney than win the A10 regular season. I think whether we beat them or lose to them, we want VCU to have as high an RPI as possible.

Making the NCAA tourney is the goal, but I can't help think that winning the A10 is a good step in that direction

Agree. Hard to imagine having the #1 seed and a10 tourney and not being a virtual lock for the NCAAs but with the top being bunched up, I don't think it is a given.
Lots of big games left in the a10 this year.

forego quote from two months ago-- Ruechalgrin's-- How does VCU not win A10?
"Almost surely some teams in the A-10 will develop and be testy or even a little beasty. That is the problem.
A-10 looks so woeful now that we may barely have exceeded MAC's out-of-conference resume at its end. THEN...
A-10 with obviously more potential will give each other fits. Sure can't lose 9 games this year and get a bid with out-of-conference as developing.
A-10 will put losses on you in a hurry when it gets going. You KNOW THAT!"

The next month in the A10 is going to be very interesting. Winner of conference before and after conference tournament is up in the air now. Take each game at a time and start with beating SLU.

Purdue, Kansas St, Seton Hall and Tennessee all lost today. Since they are all a little "bubbly"
I guess that's good news to us.
St. Louis got blown out at Fordham 83-65. I always hate playing a team on the road who just got blown out.

This will be the fourth time in a row. The only upside is that St Louis is not any good, and we should be a bit angry after that GW game.

Well, that helps. I saw Ole Miss hung on to beat Auburn, Miami choked it away and lost 61-60 @ Kent, and Alabama A&M is going to hang on for their fifth win. Texas A&M and Arkansas won earlier. Not a bad day for Flyer opponents. Georgia Tech even won.

Flyers moved up to 35 RPI. What many fail to realize is that we have zero bad losses. Noone even close to the bubble can say that. Texas A&M and Ole Miss are really helping us right now.

If the league starts to "eat our own", then we could actually see a resurrection of our old hated buddy "Juan Bid"...... We really need the top 3 or 4 teams to get some separation.....
SLU on Tuesday is HUGE for us. In fact, with the major increase in A10 games shown on TV, I have seen just about everybody play at least once. And all of them - George Mason, Richmond, the Bonnie, LaSalle, UMass, Rhodey, etc. all have played very well in stretches where they could beat any other A10 team if they did it for a whole game. At this point we cannot incur any bad loses. To be safe, I think we need to win out at home, and get 3 of 4 on the road.

Not to be too much of a Debbie Downer, but the A 10 is hurtin' this year.
Our next five games are against 100+ RPI teams. In fact, three of the next five are against 200+ teams (well, George Mason is teetering around 200). That's Patriot League-esque.
Mason (196), SLU (236 - this ain't Rick's Bils anymore), and Duquesne (258) are just dreadful. Thus, even if we win the next five in a row, we are gonna drop in the RPI.
Come on A 10, get your act together (lol).

Everyone says the A-10 is down this year, which I agree it appears we are as the top teams are not as good, and the bottom teams seem a tad worse.
However, can anyone explain why the A-10 is #7 in conference RPI?
Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the A-10 typically finish #7 every year in conference RPI, including last? I can not find the stats doing a quick search to confirm this though, just rolling from memory.

The A 10 does currently have 8 teams in the Top 100, which is pretty good, but most of the teams are "middlers," i.e. NIT/CBI teams. And the bottom feeders are a drag as usual. Not a lot of opportunity for "good wins" in conference this year, although @ UMass and/or @ GW would have really helped our cause.
Hope I'm wrong, but I'm seeing a two bid league this year (maybe three if there are upsets in the A 10 tourney)...

I got home from my grandkids' swim meet at 3:40, in time to see St. Bonnie beat VCU. OMG! I yelled almost as loud as I do at our games, lol. I really and truly hate to see players get hurt, but my but my baser instincts can't help thinking we might have a better chance of beating VCU now. Although by the time we play them, they might have figured out to win in adversity, like our own heroes have.
All through the Fordham/ SLU game I kept wondering how Fordham could look so much better than the team we crushed last Sunday 101-77. I never expected SLU to look that bad.
The big problem is now UD and SLU, beaten by us last month, play each other Tues. after crushing losses and at SLU. Both will be gung-ho to take out their frustrations on each other. My stomach is already churning.

Enjoyed watching Our Lady University get beat by 30 points by Duke. Translating the name it don't sound as mystique like.

Agree that the league's bid future doesn't look too good. We needed a few teams to break out and separate themselves from the pack, that hasn't happened. Flyers had two opportunities and came up short twice. VCU is mortal, URI , GW,and UMASS are in the picture. A one bid season is a real possibility, but there are a bunch of games left so we shall see. A lot will depend on what happens to other bubble teams and we have no control over that. Flyers have to finish strong, we may do that at home but away may be another matter.

Good call. We'll (hopefully) see how that is weighed vs not having many good wins.
UIC got a road win at Detroit today. Helps us a little. We need Richmond to come back and beat Rhody for our spot in the standings.

Rhody looked pretty solid against Richmond today. They took all the punches the Spiders could dish out and kept coming back. Little Anthony (pun intended) just kept driving to the hole in the last minute and scoring for the home team. But the Rams always had an answer.
Matthews is an impressive Soph. David Kaplan said there were about ten NBA scouts at the game specifically to look at him. But even without Matthews Rhode Island is young, and they should be a force to reckon with in the next few years.

He was in foul trouble in the first half, and never really got into the rhythm in the second half.

Agree.
Hurley TALKS TO OFFICIALS ALL GAME LONG. I've never witnessed a head coach spending every second during dead ball situations constantly talking to the refs. Our students will be all over that/him.

He is maybe the whiniest coach I've seen, and that includes The Schnoz from Ohio State AND Coach K... so that is really saying something.

Gotta add Mike Lonergan of GW. Sitting here watching the game with some SLU friends they remarked what I was thinking, wow that guy talks to the officials all game long and usually gets his call including a game or two reversals.

Watching him he looks like he is about to cry at any minute, or every minute. Some coaches think they should get every call.

At first I thought of throwing Chris Mack into this group, but he just downright flips out more so than whines. I've lost track at how many times I've seen him have to get held back by his assistants trying to go after officials.

Interesting. I watched most of the Pacers/ Charlotte NBA game last night. It is painful watching the NBA, but I digress. Our old friend, David West, is as big a whiner as he was back in college.

They were down one with the ball with 12 seconds to play. You will never guess what their last play was.
Yup, you guessed it. Give it to the best player, let him drive with zero second options, and hope for the best.
Shockingly, his shot was contested by at least 3 guys, it didn't even hit the rim, and bounced out of bounds off of Ga. Tech.
Amazing!

Anyone catch the highlights of the Arkansas game? It looked like Auburn was trying to dump the game, no defense, passes to the other team and guys just standing on defense. I guess Auburn can score, thanks goodness, because they are clueless on defense.

VCU & LaSalle going to overtime. Both teams looking tough. I didn't think LaSalle would be much of a challenge for us. But we play in philly.

LaSalle wins at VCU
These upsets are bad for the league as a whole, but at least we now control our own destiny to win the league outright.
Really nervous about playing at St. Joes, Duquesne and Lasalle.

VCU hit 30% and only 3 of 22 for 3s. This was a loss at home and likely they will fall out of the top 25.

We are in a great position right now with our next two games being at home. Granted, SBU and SJU are going to be tough games, but at this point I do not expect to lose a home game this year. Win the next 2 games and we could create some seperation at the top of the league heading to DUQ. Talk about a critical two weeks.

I just returned from the Dukes vs Colonials game in the Burgh. Duquesne laid the wood to them. They zoned them the entire game and GW was 7 for 25 from long range. The Dukes were 10 for 21. If you control the Duquesne guards they have nothing else. Thank you Duquesne, LaSalle, and St. Joes!!!

Seton Hall situation is interesting. Have to wonder how bad the situation is for this kid to call it quits at this point in the season.
But it wouldn't surprise me if come this offseason Jaren Sina takes a look at Dayton. Facilitating PG from New Jersey who has played with and against Charles Cooke a lot over the years. Not a bad roster fit as a guy who would sit a year and then have 2 years eligibility, ensuring upperclass floor general type leadership as Crosby is brought along after Scoochie graduates two years from now. By all account a good kid who does really well in the classroom and acts as a coach on the floor with high basketball IQ. Good shooter too I believe.
Total speculation, but when the time comes, you never know...

Assuming you are talking about winning the league here so if by they you mean UMass, then yes they do. UD does not.

I've seen him play...good attitude, plays hard, hustles...unfortunately I can't remember anything else about him though: is he a scorer?/shooter?/defender?/assist man?/etc.

Hmmm...if I were a coach it would have to be an EXTREME circumstance for me to consider taking a player that quits mid semester.

Bonnies ****ed their game away. 20s left. They were up 1 and inbounding the ball at the side of UMASS basket. Inbounding player threw the ball to no one and ball went out of bounds on side. UMASS hits a 3 and Bonnies get the ball with like 6s left and miss it.

So, you're saying Posley couldn't pull another Bonnies win out of his rear-end?

UMass has an absolutely brutal schedule down the stretch. Thay have away games at VCU, RI and GW as well as a home game with Richmond. They will be fortunate to win 2 of those.

Darnel Hoskins worked out pretty nicely. With out knowing the circumstances, I can't really comment on the kid. Its certainly a warning flag, but perhaps there are good reasons.
At any rate, if you believe Crosby to be a capable backup for 2 seasons and starter for his last 2 after Scoochie, throw in Davis & Davis and there's not a huge need for another PG on the roster.
