Flyers down 20...resembles a 3-point shooting contest at this point. Continue to struggle immensely around the hoop.

I think the players misunderstood when we told them we wanted to have a very offensive-minded team.

I can accept a loss in the NCAA tournament, every team in it is solid, but this is brutal and embarrassing.

1. Our finishing in close has been worse than terrible.
2. Our defensive effort in the second half has been worse than terrible.
3. Our body language in the second half has been worse than terrible.
4. Networks showing crying kids are worse than terrible.

Dayton keeps thinking the Orange has shot blockers so the Flyers rush their shots and blow the layup.

Thank God Archie called a timeout, fifteen points too late, but who's counting?????
Like I said above, blowout coming, and here it is. Laughable!!!
Dayton deserved to invited to NCAA, but they didn't actually belong. That was obvious late in the season.

Looking back all the signs were there. And noted. Ad nauseum. Better get what's wrong with the intra-dynamics of the team fixed so they can practice together to work this out. Clearly see a lack of rythym and it's not all the zone defense of SU. We've seen signs. A new realm for Archie being beaten down in the tourney.

And another offensive rebound by Syracuse. And now, we bail them out by fouling with 3 left on the shot clock. Unfathomable.

Good lord man, we are losing today because we missed a lot of bunnies... that's not coaching, it's execution by the players
Today is not on the coaching

Since it's been mentioned in this thread - and I have no idea if it's true - here's what I wrote in the "True Team?" thread on 02/27:

I'm not saying that has happened, but it seems like 180s like this always have roots in something personal.
I like to live in a naive world where all the players on the teams I support like each other and want to hang out with each other. I really, really hope there are no significant personality conflicts on this team because (a) this current team can be extremely difficult to beat and (b) minus Pierre this team is back for 2016-2017. I don't want personal crap today to trash two seasons.

It's been a rough ride since we hit number 15. Obviously, the chemistry of the team is just not there. It is a sad ending to this season. Time to get ready for next year. Need some shooters and rebounders for next season. We better be looking at some new guards. Nothing against our current guards, but we don't have enough horses for next year.

As much good work as this team did to get a 7 seed, they will be remembered as faders. Let's hope this gives them motivation for next year.

It ain't chemistry....Gotta make shots..Can't shoot under 30% as a team most of the year and give up 40% shooting 3's to opponents.....They simply can't hit the curve ball.....They look like the guy walking back to dugout after chasing 2 sliders away for strike 3 for the 150th time. The guy cares alot but just ain't good enough..

The biggest story. I think it showed how valuable a healthy Pollard complemented Pierre's game. A direct reflection of his ineffectiveness. All of it was magnified by whatever happened off the court. Something was up from the start. No Dr Phil but pretty easy to see.

Archie needs to focus the off season on team bonding. Selfishness destroys success.
I feel bad for Pierre.

Had high hopes for this year and this team after only losing one senior from the True Team. Disappointed and hope that whatever is ailing this team is addressed.
This is painful, and hate to see the season end like this.

Just stumped how our offense became so inept over the last 1/3 of the season. Anyone have any answers and don't tell me Pollard's injury because I don't believe that. Nothing was smooth offensively and I don't understand how it suddenly happened.

Beg to differ - it's a little bit of both. Not saying we don't need better shooting/shooters, but if a guy who has shown he can shoot starts throwing-up bricks on a regular basis, there could be something between the ears. And, over the past 5-6 weeks, this team has needed Dr. Phil just as much as it has needed Dr. J.
Ask Donoher about the difference team chemistry makes. He made the championship game in '67, had all but 1 guy coming back, had a solid sophomore class coming in, and had to salvage an NIT championship out of a 7-9 start to the 1967-68 season. Granted I was only 5-6 years old then and am 53-54 now, but this season, in a new millennium, has many of the same signs of "issues" that the 1967-68 season had.
Just sayin'...

It's 1967-68 all over again. Check your history books (or at least the latest Media Guide, in the all-time results section).

That is true...but when you get in the weeds you got to play to win. This team packed it in when they got down today and took the L on the chin. That, my friend, no matter how good Archie is, the zone almost got us a W against SJU in 2 minutes...today...it was packed in. Play to win.

Horrible finish to what was a promising year. Given UD's offensive woes down the stretch I thought this Cuse game would be a problem. Flyers didn't have much depth to overcome games when Pierre, Cooke, and Scootch don't show. The past couple of years the Flyers had the luxury of guys that would deliver on days like today (primarily Sibert). Back to the drawing board. I agree on chemistry, this team never felt like they rounded out and complemented each other well. Don't know why that was.

Chemistry has everything to do with how a team performs. The speedbumps this team hit 9 games ago carry over to the lack of flow you see today. The result today wasn't a result of just today...it was building from the regular season. If you look at frisco's post above and knew that 9 games ago and actually watched actions on the floor and how the team communicated together and treated each other during a game (like player A chewing player B out). It isn't rocket science and was OBVIOUS if you knew that info when watching the skid.

Chemistry and DP's return...

I am way too far away from the action to have any meaningful insights. But, it seems to me that during the OOC portion of the schedule there was quite a bit of talk along the lines ..."Wait until DP returns,,,we're gonna be great". But during the portion of the schedule when DP had returned we didn't seem to be as "great" as before.
Could his return have had an adverse impact on team chemistry that had been established during the OOC schedule?

I don't think his return had as much as an impact as an "outsider" Cooke coming into a good thing and others not getting a piece of the pie. In return, the roles were reversed in the previous sentence off the court and we now stand where we stand.

4-5 down the stretch. Was 21-3, not 23-3.
If interpersonal issues caused the slide, it hast be things that boiled over in the last few weeks, not from only the summer. If just the summer they would have hit early in year too.
Pollard having no lift and explosiveness plays in. Pierre was much less effective with Pollard hobbled.

Actually, we were never 23-3. We were 21-3, then 21-5. So we went 4-4 after we were 21-3, not counting today. They were 1-5 in their last six; we were 4-2 in our last six.

Had great seats. What mainly stood out to me more than the poor shooting (cuse only shotv39%). Was the lack of rebounding and poor foul shooting

I agree 100% that CHEMISTRY is the most important element of success for us. Teams like Duke and Kentuky can trade off chemistry for talent, but we can't. we need #TRUETEAM back to be successful. Too much is at stake for everyone involved that I believe this will be addressed in the offseason.
unrealized potential notwithstanding, this team set some new historic benchmarks, and in general elevated the bar for Men's Basketball at UD. For that we can be grateful as we look forward to another great season next year.
Go Flyers!

Cooke should not be an outsider. He was there for all of last year, just couldn't play in games. If he wasn't accepted by others then I blame them and not him. I would also blame Archie if that was the case. I'm not buying that Cooke was an outsider and not accepted after spending a whole redshirt season with the team.

There are only so many points to go around in a game...he took a good portion of those over the course of the season. Combine that animosity to the off the court stuff and you have a recipe for issues.
UD did more with less in the past. There are reasons for the poor play, and it wasn't just because buckets weren't falling or the competition was that great.

We got zero out of our bench and tepid play out of our stars. The other thing that was pointed out above was the rebounding. When Steve was competing for it he was bobbling the pumpkin. Out with a wimper ......

Bad shots more than bad shooting. The Cuse zone was a bad matchup. This team not got the ball movement going of the last two years. The effort was their on defense but the offense was a slide to mediocrity over the last two months

Well, we did not lose the opportunity to take out Michigan State in the next round to get to the Sweet 16.
Middle Tennessee just did that.

I thought going in that this was the bracket to be in. I didn't think that MSU would be out after round one though. Wide open now.

You guys gotta stop with this chemistry crap......So, let's see, they dig themselves huuuuuge holes against St Louis and Richmond on the road by "shooting terribly", yet, somehow they strap up their boots, come together for the greater good, and pull out big-time wins......They play a fired-up, RI team on the road in a nationally televised game, find themselves down late, and pull out the W..They play VCU, shoot terribly "again", lose 2 key players in OT, yet "pull together" for the W..Hugs and kisses all around amongst the players...
They play their best game in a month against Richmond in the A10 tourney, shoot lights out, don't lose the lead, and their are high 5's, hugs, and kisses amongst all the players again with all the right words being spoken..
Now the chemistry issues all of a sudden happen with losses to good and/or times like SJU, St Bonnie, etc. ?? Guys, again, when you lack good, consistent shooters, have a key player miss multiple games that you rely on enormously with NOBODY that can step into that role to even give 75% of what that player gave, and play terrible perimeter defense defending 3's which this team did a large portion of the year even "before" the chemistry excuse came up then you are going to struggle especially with the back-end of the schedule loaded up.....

BS. The shots weren't falling because the passing was not as quick, crisp and unselfish as it had been. Chemistry issues is a valid target for at least debate. And there are people with inside information that suggests some personal issues. Just because you don't know the specifics doesn't mean it doesn't exist. The inconsistent shooting you're talking about wasn't one game to the next, it seriously declined between the beginning of the season and the end of the season. That's not a normal thing.

The old saying that you look great when shots are going in, applies here. The team missed at least 10 bunnies on Friday (many right there in front of me). I don't buy the chemistry or momentum stuff. I do believe that there is a mental facet to the game and that sometimes missing shots begets more missed shots. Sometimes things come easily and sometimes you struggle. The really good teams can pull out a win when they are struggling, but even then if the opponent is playing lights out, it's just not your day. Just ask Mich St.
