Those are old predictions. The new predictions that have came since his visit have all 3 been for UD. We will see!

For those that are having trouble making sense of that, a guy who tweets about OSU hoops (Dispatch beat writer covering the bucks as well, so a recognizable source) is saying that Cohill is likely to announce before taking an official visit to OSU (This weekend was when it was scheduled, perhaps next IIRC), infer from that as you will.
Sounds like a Boom! to me (Fingers crossed)

Again, signs are positive, but this guy is simply interpreting Cohill's tweet the same as we are.

Could be an oversight or he could know something. This is a Rivals analyst talking about Ohio St's recruiting
While the Buckeyes would love to add at least one wing prospect this fall, they are more focused on their backcourt as they pursue the Rivals150 guards Noah Locke, Luther Muhammad, Mike DeVoe, Bryce Hamilton, Eric Ayala, Duane Washington Jr., and Elijah Weaver.

According to Corey Evans of Rivals, AG might not be done
Cohill is a good start for Dayton as it remains in pursuit of others backcourt options this fall including Anthony Nelson, Philmon Gebrewhit, Omar Silverio and Jared Rhoden.

Who are these clowns who write these articles? He says Cohill is Grant's first commitment at UD. I guess he has never heard of Jalen Crutcher or Obadiah Toppin. He then says Cohill will take over the starting point guard position as a sophomore. He must have a crystal ball.

Question to those more in the know:
If we got another commit, guard or otherwise, that would essentially mean Sam Miller is not coming back right?

Not necessarily, he could come back as a walk-on. My thought is that is doubtful.

I think it would be leaning that way but the other option could be that someone else on the current roster might not be back

or the 2nd scholarship may come from one of the 7 new guys who thought they were gonna be "the man", and later found out all they were getting was splinters....

According to the web site verbal commits.com, just today Antwann Jones, Jr. (6-6, 205 4*) Overall Rank: 27 Position Rank 5 has trimmed his list to 4 and removed Dayton from consideration.
According to 247sports.com his final 4 are Kansas, Memphis, Oklahoma St and NC St.
Kansas and NC St. were just added today and Memphis and Oklahoma St. offered in June of 2016. Archie offered way before any of the above.
Similar to Dwayne Cohill, it makes one wonder because Jones career progressed and he rose in the recruiting rankings as well. I don't think Jones was told (like Cohill) that he was too much of a "big-time player" to come to Dayton as much as Jones saw where the Flyers made it clear to Dwayne that he was their No. 1 priority!
He probably said to himself, "I've got bigger fish to fry." Who knows what goes on in the world of recruiting! I wouldn't doubt that Kansas and NC St. just offered today to protect themselves as they both are recruiting 4 and 5 star shooting guards Keldon Johnson and Romeo Langford!
All I know is that I am extremely happy with the way CAG has recruited so far. I love Jalen Crutcher, Obadiah Toppin and Dwayne Cohill. The others remaining that he has offered are all keepers as well and we should feel fortunate to get any one of them.

Anthony Nelson supposedly cut his list to five: Clemson, Dayton, Minnesota, Seton Hall, and West Virginia. Pretty good company. He's supposed to visit the weekend of the 22nd. Would be a great get to play alongside Cohill.

That is great considering he had 22 offers! I watched his you tube videos and he really sees the floor good and hits the open man as well as having an uncanny ability to get to the basket himself. Good size at 6'4".

This is an excellent point; that's a lot of new blood. In reality, there could be a 2nd and 3rd available by the time it all shakes out.
... and that's not even taking into consideration Kostas going pro

I know someone will correct me if I am wrong but if Sam comes back he counts against the scholarship limit regardless of if he pays his own way because he is a "recruitable athlete" as defined by the NCAA.

Dayton associate head coach Anthony Solomon was at Spire Academy (OH) today to see 2018 guard Caleb McConnell (@caleb_mcco), per source.
Played at Dunbar last year... transferred to Spire for his Senior Year... Would get really interesting if they offer I bet

Anybody familiar with Spire? Unbelievable facilities for bball, bball, swimming, track & field, football stadium. I just can't figure out how it got built in Geneva Ohio.

Then how did Louisville get away with having two scholarship players go as walk ons so they could bring in two recruits. Yes they had injuries but rules are rules. And that is the year Louisville won the national championship.
And I'll bet they didn't pay their tuition for that year. Bet it was forgiven, but did anyone check?

You can't put a "recruitable athlete" on an academic scholarship to give you an extra scholarship. But a recruitable athlete can pay his own way. It doesn't happen often, but it is permissable.

Thanks for the clarification. I must remember incorrectly but I thought there was a whole conversation about his when Michael Jordan's kids were in college. People were saying "why wouldn't MJ just pay the tuition to give the team an extra scholarship?" I thought the answer was that the NCAA didn't allow that. If it is allowed I'm actually surprised it doesn't happen more with pro athletes' kids, or just kids with money, (Steph and Seth Curry, Johnny Manzeil, etc...).

If I have a kid who is offered a free ride you better believe they are taking it if they choose that school. Im not paying for them to go somewhere that would otherwise be free. Call me cheap but college is to **** expensive

Some examples:
David Stockton, son of John, walked on at Gonzaga and was a role player. I think he legitimately didn't have scholarship offers, but John Stockton is at every Gonzaga game and would absolutely write a check for anything Mark Few asked him for to help that program. David was a decent role player at Gonzaga.
Doc Rivers' son, Spencer, played at UC-Irvine for at least a season without using a scholarship. Another kid who was a role player, but no where near as good as his father.
All-American Doug McDermott played his senior season as a walk-on. His dad was the head coach at Creighton, and what happened was another player was awarded a 6th year of eligibility putting them one over the limit. So Greg McDermott just reduced his paycheck slightly to cover it.
The Louisville example mentioned above... Pitino had two guys actually - one the son of a neurosurgeon and the other who was in someway related to JR Smith that were starters, paying their own way so Pitino could effectively go 2 scholarships over the limit.
Connor McCaffery a top 100 b-ball recruit is redshirting at Iowa this year as a walk-on where his dad is the coach. He's playing baseball there too, but not using any athletic scholarship.
And finally, at Dayton, Keith Waleskowski paid his own way to come to Dayton and walk-on as a redshirt freshman with the understanding he would be on scholarship the next 4 seasons. Now, a scholarship may have opened up that year so not sure how much tuition he actually had to cover if any.
So it does happen... occasionally.

Didn't Brian Donoher get a free ride because his Daddy was faculty to free up a scholarship? I think I remember something like that. Was he recruitable or has this changed since then?

You say that now, but this is a scenario that typically plays out with people that are making a ton of money. If you were a multi-millionaire, and your son was a star basketball player who wanted to go to Dayton, but Dayton had no scholarships to give, then it would simply be a matter of whether you wanted to make a financial contribution that is within NCAA rules to directly help the basketball program gain an advantage. Heck, it might be worth the money at that point in that it saves you from having to closely follow a second program!

Honestly, if my kid was that good I'd tell him to pay his way and pay it back later. No school is worth more than $200k if you can get it for free.

Quick Reminder, our other top target after Dwayne is visiting this weekend
Mike Yagmin @MikeYagmiNERR · 5h5 hours ago
Coach Barton's @SKSHoops head into AA as a contender, w/ Anthony Nelson (@TheAntNelson_11) & Malachi De Sousa (@de_malachi) leading the way

Another big time guard... Hopefully he closes out his recruitment this weekend and doesn't take those visits to Seton Hall & Clemson, which he set up.

Jaxson Hayes was just offered by KY. He has taken official visits to X and OSU, and was to take an unofficial to UD. Hayes is the son of the Bengals tight ends coach and a former NFL player, and his mom played D1 basketball.
We could really use this big kid.

It's amazing how much Hayes recruitment has skyrocketed. I went on the Butler board looking for recruiting info and they were complaining during the summer that he was mid major recruit and beneath them

With the Cohill signing Nelson has to be hesitant at best. I would think the Staff talked to Nelson that there is room for both to play at the same time.

Well, he just de-committed. Don’t think he’s headed anywhere near the Flyers, will be interesting to see if he keeps NCAA eligibility through this investigation.

Wondering if UD would realistically be attractive to any of these top kids who are reopening their recruitment. There have to be a bunch of them who didn't take money and don't want to pay the price for those who did at big schools. Great program/facilities/fans/exposure and a reasonable assurance that you won't spend three years banned from the tourney or worse.

Sure, but how do you tell them apart at this point? Once the canaries sing, kids could be busted down the road.

That's a good point. I guess I figured those kids would be identified pretty early but you are correct the whole thing will likely snowball.

Yeah, it's not good for a kid like Antwann. Possible he was to receive some money. Or maybe he didn't get offered any in which case he's probably thinking, "man, they don't even like me that much." Either way, it's no good. Not to mention the fact that he'd likely be headed to a school that's on probation. No surprise he is rethinking things.

2018 wing Jack Clark will announce his college decision Thursday as he decides between LaSalle, Penn State, UMass, Dayton & USF per Corey Evans.
First time I have seen his name mentioned with UD, but I could have missed it.

From this article:
http://www.daytondailynews.com/sport...Ag8EZl6SG5fZI/
• Dayton is among the many schools to reach out to Anfernee Simmons, a 2018 recruit who decommitted from Louisville, according to a report by Jacob Polacheck, of D1Vision.com. Simmons, of Orlando, Fla., is the 12th-ranked recruit in the nation.

Nelson is not taking his official to Clemson. Clemson is holding its last 2018 spot in hopes it can nab Zion Williamson, who isn't expected to decide for a little while yet.
I read it is coming down to Dayton, Minnesota, and Seton Hall.
We shall see.

Happy to say Coach Grant & Staff at Dayton University have offered me a full scholarship #goflyers
New Offer
Was offered by Butler on this visit this past weekend... Huge differences on the websites about how tall he actually is... 6'9" on this twitter profile, 6'8" on rivals, other places 6'4" or 6'5"

High upside wing Jack Clark came off the board to LaSalle earlier tonight. Good get in A10.
The 3 star 6'5" 180 lb SG from Cheltenham HS in Wyncote, PA chose LaSalle over Penn State, Dayton, USF and UMass. My guess is that he wanted to play close to home so his family could watch him. From Wyncote it is only a 15min. drive to Philadelphia.

I would have been weary allowing my kid to commit to Richard Pitino a year ago, I'd be doubly worried today in light of his father's allegations. Perhaps the son shouldn't pay for the sins of the father, but still... I understand its the B10 and all, but if it were me, I'd be looking in another direction no matter if that direction pointed towards UD or not.

Who are the two 4 star freshmen? I think Nelson is the only PG Seton Hall is now recruiting. 247 Sports gives Dayton a 33% chance and Seton Hall a 66% chance. I saw one 4 star freshman - Myles Cale who is a SG. Jordan Walker is a freshman 2 star PG.

The information I posted was obtained from my brother, a Seton Hall grad and season ticket holder. It looks like I should have fact checked him! Sophomore Myles Powell from Trenton Catholic I, same school as Charles Cooke, looks to have been a 4 star recruit. Freshman Myles Cale also looks to be a 4 star recruit. The Hall's other freshman guards look to be 3 star recruits. Here is The Hall's roster.

Myles Powell and Myles Cale are shooting guards. Anthony Nelson is a point guard. Hope we get Nelson, but 247 Sports gives Seton Hall a 66% chance and Dayton a 33% chance.

That's just the percentage of people who have predicted he will go to Dayton/Seton Hall. Two people have predicted Seton Hall and one has predicted Dayton. Doesn't mean a whole lot.

Bummer news on the Nelson to UD thing:
Minnesota's Mod on their 247sports site posted this a couple of hours ago....
"Fwiw, received a message this AM about PG Anthony Nelson and his "expected" official this weekend, which has been known for sometime so not new. Believe RJ has been reporting it isn't officially set yet, but had a NY contact share that he would visit but that I should know that end of the day there is strong belief that regardless of a visit he is going to Seton Hall.
Hopefully Pitino will get a final word, but just an FYI on the topic.. "

Dayton does have a rich tradition of alliterative guards: Negele Knight, Derrick Dukes, Warren Williams, Charles Cooke, Scoochie Smith, Darrell Davis off the top of my head. DrDr (Doc Doc) could be next in line.

My best Rosanna Rosanadana impression: How dare you call any of our guards illiterate! Why, they have all gone on to be model citizens and represented UD with distinction. sure, many had some tough upbringing but they rose above that. We should honor these types of individuals...not call them names...wait, what? alliterative? oh, never mind :-)

New York Post beat writer Zach Braziller on Twitter:
"Hearing a Monday decision for Harlem PG Anthony Nelson. Minnesota, Seton Hall, Dayton the choices. #shbb"
FWIW, someone asked Zach what his prediction is and he said "Dayton, but purely speculative". However, all of Nelson's crystal ball predictions are either for Minnesota or Seton Hall.
I think Nelson would be a home run to round out the recruiting class to go along with Cohill, but I have a feeling he may be headed to either Minnesota or SH.

I think Nelson would be a home run to round out the recruiting class to go along with Cohill, but I have a feeling he may be headed to either Minnesota or SH.

Anthony Nelson just announced he will be committing tomorrow instead of today. I think this can only be good news since many thought Seton Hall was a forgone conclusion.

Scouts.com reported UD or Seton Hall. I could be wrong but it sounded to me like that came from Nelson.

You’d think those 2 schools are so different his decision wouldn’t be too difficult. Big public north v small private east. But we are talking about young kids. I hope his choice is the right one for him.

Seton Hall is a Catholic University with a student enrollment @9600. Very similar to UD only is much closer to his home. (or maybe you were responding to the Minn reference)

I am a little hopeful that it was not a slam dunk for Seton Hall

The person doing his "committed" twitter graphic needs one more day to get it done. You'll see it tomorrow.
