Workin' Da Grind

BEVERLY HILLS (MI) -- The Dayton Flyers are halfway home in their A-10 conference schedule and are atop the standings at 7-2 as they host the Duquesne Dukes at a sold-out UD Arena and on national TV via NBC Sports Network. To say the regular season is a grind is an understatement. Hard to believe that in only five weeks the conference will be hosting the A-10 Tournament in Pittsburgh.

Survive and advance!

-- Speaking of “the grind” here is a new video on what the guys go thru every day in order to improve their game. With Archie, it’s all about player development:

-- The Sporting News currently has UD as a #7 seed in their projected field of 68:

-- Watch this full-game video of 2017 PG recruit McKinley Wright’s recent triple-double and tell me if you think he will be ready to start for Archie next year:

I sure do!

-- Here are a couple of articles on Rashad Williams, the 2018 recruit from Wayne Memorial HS (MI) who visited UD Arena recently for a game:

Wayne Memorial boys’ basketball is putting itself back on the map after years of struggle

Williams was pictured with his coach and Darrell Davis after the game and it took me awhile to figure out the connection. Wayne mentor Nkwane Young was DD’s coach at Frederick Douglass Academy when they made it all the way to the Final Four here in MI during Darrell's senior year.

-- Flyer Foe Northwestern might be the best college hoops story nobody is talking about:

-- In a similar vein, Flyer opponents Vanderbilt and Nebraska are included in this list of six teams that have gone from “oblivion to the bubble”:

-- The Dayton Daily News claims that reaction was ‘mixed’ to their annual troll-fest article on the disinterment of the Gem City Jam:

What part of “hell no” is it that these guys don’t understand?

-- Coupla blog pieces from Ken Pomeroy:

Basketball Diary: January 2017

The latter includes a reference to yet another non-con Flyer squad – Portland – who Kenny names as last month’s “most disappointing team.”

-- In closing “the grind” isn’t limited to basketball players. There are some real-life lessons to be learned from this young lady’s constant battle to excel that ultimately led to her nervous breakdown:
