Golden Obi - Win and sweep of St. Louis

I guess SLU needs to fire Ford. Should I include him as a Golden Obi option?

Hmmmm.

Since Zimi earned POG honors on Tuesday...but we lost...I gave him a make-up call tonight. In all seriousness, tonight was the definition of a TEAM win and some real SENIOR leadership. Jalen, Ibi, Rodney, and Jordy (and Cam): Thanks for coming together and showing us all what being a Flyer is all about. Thank you all.

I voted for Rodney. I thought his defensive pressure and stopping the dribble penetration was the key to the victory.

Team effort, but it’s Jalen with the lifetime achievement award. What a great first recruit for AG. What a great career ... with more to come.

I voted Jordy for his defense, but now that you mention it, Rodney keeping the paint clean of dribble drivers allowed Jordy to concentrate strictly on stopping the big men and kept him from getting early fouls.

Fire Ford!

His strategy of piling in transfers just isn't working. They just dont seem to gel.

I Voted for Chatman

From the start of the game Dayton had the edge because of Chatman's defensive leadership.
He was the very best defender on the court and his zeal was infectious. Stafa turned in his best defensive effort as a young Flyer and they held SLU to 27% shooting for the game. Dayton won this game with defensive intensity led by their All - American defensive stopper
Rodney Chatman. Hope he plays another year.

My kids don't even like Travis Ford. When SLU is on TV my daughter always says, "They have the coach that whines all the time".

Yep.

Yep.
My son and I were talking about the same thing! Can you say Dan Hurley! Two peas in a pod. I voted for Chatman because his defense set the tone and set the example for the younger players! I hope he decides to stay and play with this class we have coming in next year. Defenders like him don't come along very often!

I went with Jordy. He controlled the interior on D, collected rebounds when it seemed no one else could, didn’t foul unnecessarily and didn’t fumble. He had 3 blocks.

For those of you voting for Chatman, I get it, but it was really Jordy. Chatman did a great job. But everybody gets beat. The difference tonight was that as guys got 1/2 a step on their man on the perimeter, Jordy was in perfect position to say "nope". So the guy pulls back. It looks like Chatman stopped him but in reality it was Jordy 1 step ahead who showed the guy he was in position FAR outside the restricted circle.

Contrast that with the number of times Amzil was in the same position. He did better this game than in the past few games, but there were numerous times that he was too far under the rim, his shoulders weren't squared up, and it just screamed "you could probably score or get a foul here if you go for it."

Luckily StL couldn't make a layup.

I watched the game again this morning. And I think Jordy stoned about 10 bull rush moves to the basket in the first half alone. There are not many guys around who make Hasahn French look physically inadequate. I think without Jordy's bulk, we would have been destroyed inside, both getting bulled to the basket and getting nailed on the boards. He fortunately was not in early foul trouble, which is his greatest weakness, IMO.

We need Sissoko for that kind of physicality when Jordy is in foul trouble. We need that in the A10 tournament. Where is he??????

I voted for Chatman. His great defense, floor game at guard and great choice of shots got my vote. He only took 6 shots and made three. His constant pressure on the guards out front kept penetration to a minimum. How many games with him out did we see a revolving door of dribblers to the basket?

Crutcher with a blah offensive game on 4-13 shooting and 1-6 from three and 3 turnovers. I thought his defensive effort was the best of his career. Ibi with an excellent game, 14 pts and 5 rebounds. Our three guards had 15 rebounds. When was the last time that happened?

Jordy and Amzil were monsters on defense. Jordy with some great stops had 3 blocks and a steal. Amzil was 3-4 shooting, and had a block and 2 steals. One of my favorite plays of the game was when French and Amzil simultaneously came down with a rebound, and Amzil said, no way my ball, and violently pulled it away from French. Someone got a message to Amzil that this is not a polite game, start playing like you mean it. Amzil was a monster on D, and mostly under the basket. He will never be Trey, but cannot wait till he gets more muscle and experience.

We will miss Jordy's great screens under the basket. It is more like a wall than a screen.

I've been a critic of Rodney the last two years. Not that I don't think he helps the team but I have thought many times he needs to play much better than he does. I voted for him tonight because I thought he just played within himself (last game too) and he was much more controlled. This Rodney I can get on board with, hopefully he keeps it up.
