The 6'2"-6'3" Philly Native put up big numbers at Roman Catholic... Transferred to IMG for Post Grad this season and is playing really well too. Kid has offers from every where: SEC, Big Ten, ACC, Big East, etc.

Quick reminder, his dad was a monster at Temple.

He's more of a combo guard than a point, so him and Mali should work great together.

LG3, Mali, DaRon, Kaleb & Mustapha all in one class is unreal.

We lose a lot of perimeter shooting next year, and the little video that I have seen of him makes him look like a shooter/deep threat.

Hope that is true.

Assuming that we have no returning seniors next year, there will not be a senior on the team, and only two juniors, assuming Cohill is OK. We are going to be young, but I think we will be as talented as ever.

The way he talks about coming in and working hard and being the best version of himself reminds me of the things I've read about Holmes. Sounds like a couple of guys who won't be going out there every night to get theirs but rather to get the team a win. The points and other stats will just come naturally as a by-product of the team-first mentality.

Ricardo starred at Pitt (1997-2001) while Lynn Greer Jr was dominating at Temple (1997-2002). And then they both had LONG careers in Europe that overlapped (both retiring from playing in 2015).

UPDATE: Question answered. Jablo says no relation. They are friends though. I suspect Ricardo played a role in Lynn's recruitment.

This kid already has a college-ready body or very very close to. Outside of the obvious very talented BIGS, many many times it's the only difference between the elite P5 teams talent over the mid/high-mid majors and others. Might take a UD kid 2 years to get the necessary weight/strength versus top teams who can get the ready-made body.

Interesting that Grant and Ricardo Greer went to his high school in Sept 2019 to visit and give a presentation. Our name wasn't even mentioned with him until late yesterday. I like our staff's "stealth recruiting".

That's always the downside of these discussions. At least 1 of Cohill, Brea, Frazier will have to distinguish himself, probably not more than 1. The other 2 will likely fade out. Not enough minutes for everyone.

It could be worse, there were so many years where we lamented that there was no one else was walking through those doors who could produce anything better. The Logan White / Marques Bennett / Mark Jones / Chris Spears years come to mind, they were OK bench & practice players but we needed to recruit over them to give Ramod and the rest of the team some help. Back then it was 4, maybe 5 decent players, and after that the plan was "hope".

Yeah, usually it makes sense for some to mainly sit. Usually freshman that are a work in process. But we have two 4 stars coming in and if they're what we would expect, they will naturally require lots of minutes, compared to most freshman we've recruited. Mustapha and Weaver are starters at the present time and it would be hard to sit them on the bench. Dwayne will be entering the season he would expect his minutes to rise. Zimi and RJ also. Mo's bulk is either useful or it isn't and if it is, MINUTES, if not, then his redshirting will be looked at as a waste. Brea and Frazier? We would expect big steps forward from those two, but without minutes, they wouldn't be able to take those steps. That leaves Mali and LGIII as kind of your normal freshman but Mali especially will command some minutes to grow into being the PG of the future like his brother did his first season.

Not saying it can't or won't be done appropriately, but having two 4-star recruits entering the program is really going to make it more difficult and very different as far as keeping the players happy and with defined rolls.

Cohill doesn't have anything to worry about as long as he's healthy. Once he and Grant got on the same page, Grant showed bountiful trust in him especially in the last 5 minutes of games. This team needs an upgrade on the perimeter D anyway and Rod won't be around. As far as I'm concerned he can't get back on the court fast enough. He's not a magic bullet fix for everything but DC knows his job and doesn't stray from it too often. Grant likes that.

True but only to the degree the rehab goes well, and he trusts the knee to take the beating. That's my concern.

Cohill: A couple of days ago, he posted a video on his Instagram story. It was entitled "Return of the Demon". Looked professionally done although some of these young people are very adept with technology. I took it as a sign his rehab must be going well.

If I'm not mistaken, next year will be his fourth year in college but he has only played two years that count. Won't that make him a only a junior eligibility-wise next year given that this year is a "free" year?

Calipari, Self, Coach K, Izzo, etc. face that problem every year. It's a nice problem to have. We still really could use a back-to-the-basket playing big man. Holmes's body is not going to fill that need.

Well, if he were to list him any other way, then he would have to list Zimi, Mustapha, Brea, Mo, RJ and Frazier as Freshman next year for the same reason.

I thought I wouldn't live long enough to worry about too much talent to choose from.

Reminds me of the owner of a small business who won the National Award for operating a Small Business. His response was, " I lay awake worrying that I will win this every year!"

UD needs to mold this talent into something better than 20-10.

Next year is so hard to predict.
Step 1 is personnel. Do any of the 4 seniors return? Do any existing players transfer out? Do they fill the 13th and final scholarship?
Step 2 is predicting freshman impact. Yes, they are more talented than usual. But freshmen rarely step in and dominate. Amzil's 10-and-5 per game basically equals the most productive year any Flyer has had in his first year in the program in 20 years (since Waleskowski's 11-and-8 in 2000-01).
Step 3 is outside shooting. We're about to lose Crutcher and Watson, a pair of high-volume 40% bombers. For our current offense to work, we need a couple of knock-down shooters. I'm not positive yet who that will be.
Step 4 is taking a bunch of talent that hasn't played together and figuring out how to make them into the best unit. Is Weaver for sure the point, or could he move off-ball? Who wins playing time out of the Washington, Blakney, Amzil, Zimi, Holmes bunch? What's the style -- do they run and press, or play the current UD system?
I'm sure there are about a dozen other steps, too.
I'm excited for the talent UD will have, and I think 22-23 is going to be a dynamite year. Next year could be anything, from growing pains to great.

I recall when Creen at Georgia had that kind of anointment for their top 5 recruiting class, headed by Anthony Edwards. They ended up 16-16 with Dayton shattering their early season expectations. Don't get me wrong, I would rather have a great recruiting class than not.
But one Obi Toppin would have us 17-2 right now.

My thought process in those games was something like this.
- Temple brings the ball across court.
- Greer has the ball and scores. UD no answer.
- Temple brings the ball across midcourt.
- Greer scores again, easily. Here we go again.
- Temple brings the ball across mid court
- Repeat. ARRRRRRGGHHHHHHHH!!!!

I felt about Greer like the way St. Louis fans felt about Crutcher, only magnified...

I hope the family genes makes opponents fans suffer like that.

FWIW, in 2001-02, Greer's senior year at Temple, he scored 24 pts at UD and 22 pts at Temple (both were Temple wins) vs My Team...and played all 40 min in both games.

That was his junior year...and he played all 45 min that game.

FWIW, he averaged 39.6 min/game as a junior and 39.7 as a senior.

You can get away with playing long minutes, but in the long season you wear down especially if your opponents use their depth and physical play against you.
