I feel very sorry for you that Cassonos is better than anything you can get in Texas. I don't think there is any pizza in Ohio that is better than the run of the mill stuff in the northeast.

In Tx anything that resembles a pizza shape is actually called a 'cow paddy'

If you want good pizza, go into any small town pizza joint and take your chances. I would be willing to bet 9 out of 10 of the ma and pa locally owned places you go serve up a better pizza than any chain pizza place. Yes, even better than locally owned Marions or Cassanos

Most local ma & pa stores in NJ are shall I say good to go to, any time, any where!
Chains are OK but the adventure to explore those small local pizza joints in and around NJ are quite interesting. Most times they are very good.
Also there is something about pizza on the boardwalk with salt air included for free makes it that much more special.

Heck I've lived in Kenosha for 20 years now. Lived in Dayton my whole life up to that point. While in Dayton, Cassanos didn't seem all that great to me. Probably because it was the pizza I was brought up on. But I now live in Kenosha, a city that thinks of itself as Italian and can't wait to eat a cassanos when I get home. I have yet to eat a pizza in this area, which includes the Chicago suburbs that has a pizza I like better than Cassanos. I realize it's not the healthiest stuff, that greasy cardboard below the pizza tells you that, but man is it tasty. I also would say, I a haven't found a place anywhere that has better Subs than Dayton.

Not sure if I've tried it. But I see it's known mainly for the deep dish and that just isn't my thing. Pizza with a fork doesn't sit well with me.

If you want to know what terrible pizza is, go to St. Louis, and try Irmo's. The locals love it. It's as close to cardboard, tomato sauce and roadkill as you can get.

Thanks, Figgie! I knew you were our “go-to” for this info.
So XW had the 4th best +/- on the team last year. Perhaps part of that was due to his surrounding cast (i.e. our 4th best player was better than the opponent’s 4th best player), but regardless, he made an overall positive contribution when he was on the floor last year.
And frankly, that chart also helps to prove why we’re in the state we’re in this year. Our top 3 in terms of +/- graduated, our #4 may be hurting more than anyone knows, #5 also graduated, and #6 has been on the DL all year following double-hip surgery. So, our 2 best players this season were 7th and 8th in +/- last season, and our most improved player was next to last in +/- last year. Not much of a returning nucleus.

I for one was unimpressed with X's performance last year. He was good at times but for as many of those times that he was good he was bad twice as much. His entry in the game last year meant the defense went sour and the other team usually outscored the Flyers despite X ability to hit the three point shot.

I feel like there's a lot of revisionist history going on around here.

oldfan and others like him: can we now stop with the "XW wasn't that good last year as a sophomore, I'm not sure why we expected him to be any good this year as a junior" BS? Because it's BS. Not only was he 4th on the team as a sophomore, (if I'm reading those numbers correctly) he was the most consistent!
To be that productive as a sophomore is pretty darn good. And frequently it's the transition to the junior season where players show real progress. So yes, we were expecting to see a lot from him this year, and no, it was not unrealistic to expect that.
I think there are reasons--PG play, injury, coaching conflicts--but XW just not being that good is not one of them.

Thanks for the links, OSU. Not to keep beating on the guy, but rather to possibly help explain why we're seeing what we're seeing. I found this evaluation done by the site Future150 to be especially perplexing:
"SCOUTING REPORT
Strengths:
Crosby is a pass first point guard who always plays under control and is seemingly never bothered by pressure. He has a fluidity to his game that makes it seem as though he almost glides around the floor. He is a fantastic floor general who can take over a game with his passing ability."
I emphasized those 2 points of Future150's evaluation because we have rarely, if ever, seen those traits out of John since he became a Flyer. Either they were basing their scouting reports on unsubstantiated, anecdotal accounts (and not first-hand observations), or maybe he just "freezes" with the pressure of being a D-I floor general.
Maybe it's simply "stage fright"? Dunno. But it's happened to others over the years, and maybe it happened to him, too. Just to give him some benefit of the doubt.

Many scouting reports for recruiting services and tournaments are completed by random joe blows. I personally know of scout sheets being given to people, albeit familiar with the game and have played at a high level, and them going and completing them on a handful of players in a game. They then base their write ups off of them...many of those are completed off of one friggin game in a tournament. Many aren't gospel.

I must have been wrong. I can only give my opinion which is that X always seemed to play soft last year but then that was my observation. However the poster subsequent to my post informed me that X was not to be expected to play a hard inside game that he really is built to only play soft. He indicated he should be considered a 3 forward not a 4 forward.
My impression of a 3 forward was Ken May or Mike Sylvester neither of whom played soft. Or to use a more current 3 forward I would use Pierre as the proper player to play that position. Perhaps X is really a two guard much like Kostas is really a point guard just taller.
But my main point in my post was that his supporters are all for making excuses for X that they are not making for the rest of the bench. And the above post proceeds to list many of these excuses without any substantiation for any of them. Perhaps one of these excuses is valid or perhaps he really is not as good as many on this board give him credit for being.

I live in NC, went to school and have many friends in West Carrollton.. They are saying Cassanos isn't like I remember, that it has changed since Vic has passed? Is Cassanos not the great pizza it used to be and that I remember?

I hope Kostas bulks up a bit in the off season, and really comes into his own next season.. this has been a very good discussion, didn't mean to steer it off topic with Cassanos

Sadly your friends are correct. For the last decade or so it tastes just like the other chain places, if not worse.

Wanted to post this...
Giordano's opening in Beavercreek...near the end of 2018.
https://www.wcpo.com/news/insider/de...e-not-in-cincy:
The Beavercreek store will occupy a former Logan’s Roadhouse at 2819 Centre Drive. The 5,300-square-foot restaurant is expected to open by the end of this year.

I tried to go to the Giordano's in Columbus last summer on the weekend, while passing through Columbus, it was very busy, it was a 2 hour wait, we couldn't wait that long and left. The Columbus store opened last June.
IMO, Giordano's pizza looks very much like Gino's and Uno's.

It takes a while to cook a pizza as thick as a Chicago style

Going back 50 years, wasn't there a Dino's Pizza not far from the school? Seem to remember great pizza with crumbling sausage on it.

I lived in Chicago for eight years and Giordano's was my choice for Chicago style pizza.

Got a carryout deep dish pizza from Giordano's in Columbus yesterday...very good...first time ever getting broccoli on a pizza.
On a separate note, the men's bathroom had a funky Dyson Airblade all-in-one faucet and high power hand dryer...had never seen one of those before. It had some graphical?/text? instructions on it, which I completely ignored when washing my hands.
So, after I was done washing my hands, I was ticked when I thought that there were no paper towels/air dryers to dry my hands...so, I took a second look at the faucet and needed a few seconds to figure out that the air dyer was built into the faucet...took me a few seconds to figure out how it worked.
Might be a little unsanitary as the high power air sort of blows down into the sink.

I don't know, we put the order in through the app or the website about an hour and a half before we picked it up. We were allowed to specify a pick up time. They missed the pickup time target by 10 minutes, so we had to wait 10 minutes.

I think the time it takes to bake a pizza that big limits how popular those places get outside Chicago
