Dyshawn's team, Dinamo Sassari, won the first 89-85 at home. Today they play at Wurzburg, Devin's home court. Both usually start for their teams.

The Red Scare could learn from these Wurzburg fans!

Hopefully the UD marketing department does not learn from Wurzburg's...

2:26 left in the 3rd Quarter. Dyshawn Pierre has 17 points. 7 points in the last 3 minutes.

The last two minutes of this game has been horrible. I guess it's a good thing the score is close.

I'm so confused.
1. Neither Oliver or Pierre appeared to be on either team.
2. The score was tied at 79 with 18 seconds left and the one team fouled intentionally 40 feet from the basket like they were stopping the clock, sending a good FT shooter to the line. He made both for a 2 point lead.
3. The team down 2 then ran a play for a 3. It didn't go in. The ball went out of bounds. On the inbound play they did not foul intentionally, they just watched the clock run out with a half-hearted effort at defense.
4. With 2 seconds left on the clock the team with the ball (and winning) dribbled ran intentionally into the back court. No over-and-back call was made.

Scratching my head here too. Oliver and Pierre were both definitely out there for the last 4 minutes and both committed fouls within the last 2 minutes. Oliver only had a couple touches in the last minute for some reason. He immediately gave it up each time. He did miss one 3 from the corner that I saw. They kept running plays for a guy who was jacking up airballs from 3. Both teams also seemed to miss more than 50% of their free throws in the last 3 minutes.
With 20 seconds left and the score tied, Oliver's team inexplicably fouled Pierre's team as if they were down 2 points and trying to get the ball back. Then when they missed the go-ahead 3 with about 8 seconds left they just let the other team dribble it out? How do you foul tied with 20 seconds left and then not foul down by 2 with 8 seconds left???? Especially when Pierre's team was like 50% from the line???

The strategy at the end was tough to follow because the winner was the team with the higher combined score from both games. No matter how they decide the winner, the last few minutes of the game were bad.
The game was won in the third quarter when Sassari (Pierre's team) was down by 11 in this the 2nd of two games, and made it a one position game. After that Wurzburg struggled.
It was very weird watching Pierre and Oliver play on opposing teams. They were guarding each other for large portions of the game. One of the more watchable parts of the last few minutes was a bucket by Oliver against Pierre.

Oliver's team lost the 1st leg of the final by 5 points, so they were really down by 5 when they fouled with the game tied.

It's the way soccer does it too. It's a balance between a single game, which typically would be a neutral site for fairness, and a longer series.
This way, you can avoid a longer series, but give each team a home game.
Seems odd to Americans, but overseas this is a fairly common way to do it.

Too bad this system wasn't used for our Rhode Island series this year.

'murica. Thanks to those who explained.
If anyone could explain why over and back was not called I'd be interested to know. Does the mid-court line from the first game carry over??

Or VCU two years ago...we could have used it in the three games against them and we would have moved on to the A10 quarterfinals.
