Thank you!
Thank you Archie and the guys for a great run this year. It has been fun.
Special shout out to DMo as well, you will always be one of my favorites.
Kavs & Vee- Thanks guys, you were both a big part of this.
Most importantly, as I am typing this in the closing seconds of the game, a Big Thank you to the Flyer Faithful in attendance who I can hear in the background on TV chanting WE ARE UD. I will never miss an NCAA game within driving distance, once my family obligations with my still at home teens are over.
The future is bright for our team. Go Flyers

Great season Dayton Flyers!
Over matched inside today and our shooters didn't show today. Couldnt get anything inside and couldn't defend the glass at the end. All that said, the game was not out of reach but again UD had no shooters to close today.

UD could have won this game had they made layups and the open looks. Also needed to keep FLA off the boards, but still a helluva season. Proud to be one of the few that didn't give up on them after the 1-5 A-10 start.
Future is definitely bright under Archie.

Making the shots would have kept it close. It then would have been a completely different game. Florida was playing not to lose near the end - the very thing we often did that cost us games. What's nice, though, is that Dayton's ball movement broke down that elite defense. We had the open shots to miss. Wish they would have fallen, but they didn't. We belonged on that court and validated the Elite 8 status, even if we did lose by double digits. We had a shot right into the last 2 minutes.

It was going to take a near perfect game by UD or a bad game by Florida. They got neither.
The shots they got were more challenged. Ball movement didn't get the same wide open looks. Using the USA Today analogy, Florida had too many As for UDs Bs to overcome. I am ok with that.
Flyers could have folded. They did not.
Great ride.

I was one who was giving up on the season during that terrible run. But this turned into a season of poetic justice in many, many ways because the team, led by Oliver, refused to give up. It was a hell of a run. I salute Archie and the whole team. I'm proud to be a fan.

I counted 6 missed open 3s. That could have been the ballgame right there. (Except, of course, that if they were made it would have totally changed Florida's play style so who knows what would have happened?)

ARE YOU KIDDING ME ? A great effort against the probable best team in the nation. Sometimes the ball just doesn't go in. 8 points down with just under 3 and ain't nobody leaving early. Thank you DO, VS & MK. A great Flyer season.

Yes, the story of the post-season was that our defense showed up. We all knew that this could be a very good team if it could get a defense going.

Absolutely. They shot 44% from 3 and had only 9 TO's. Before the game I said they needed to hit 50% of their 3's and have no more than 10 TO's and they could win. I didn't believe they would make 50% . Just a different athlete out there for UF. Very very tough to hold the ball against them because you just never know if you're going to get more than one good look per possession and that's even if you don't turn the ball over. UD missed a couple bunnies and got beat on 3 straight offensive rebounds but they made this a 38 plus minute game and made UF sweat it out. Down 17 points and cut it to 8. Tremendous play and effort.

TBS showed a graphic near the end of the game, and one of the stats showed Dayton with 7 fouls and Florida with only 3.
Ordinarily, I'd be extremely ****ed about our opponent only being called for 3 fouls at that point in the game, but it was hard to argue that they committed that many more. They're well-coached on how to play D without committing the obvious fouls, and that made for a tough assignment for our guys tonight. Granted, we missed some shots at point-blank range, but I have to hand it to Florida. They didn't read the press clippings and think we were just going to hand them the victory - they went out and earned it. Hats off to them, but also hats off to our guys for not giving up, and getting it back to where it was a contest right up until the final minute.
DMO, Vee, Kavs - we'll miss you guys. Thanks for a great run. Jordan, Gavs, and the rest of the team - you have a big assignment ahead of you next year to top this. BE UP TO THE TASK!
Go Flyers!

Vee was great for us, but I'm not worried about replacing him. At worst, Pierre, Sibert, and Scoochie's minutes go up. We're deep enough with guards/wings that we can cover that position.
More worried about replacing Kav. Scott and Robinson have had some really great plays, but they've also made quite a few mistakes. Enough that the drop-off from Kav was noticeable. (Although early in the year, Kav didn't seem to be very good himself, so it didn't make much difference... and we were winning in the non-con without much post presence at all.) I hope somebody from Scott/Robinson/Gav/McElvane is ready to step up and be a consistent post presence.
I'm not worried at all about replacing DMO. Simply because I know it's not possible. It's just not fair that he turned out to be this good but he turned out to be so good so late in his career. We really only got this one good year out of him... but it was worth it to get to the Elite Eight. Keep at it, DMO, and maybe we'll watch you in the NBA one day. Also, with him leaving, there are PF minutes to fill in. Pollard looks to be one to get a bunch of them, but we could easily see Robinson/Scott playing next to each other a lot next year.

One Heck Of A Run. I'm very proud of the team, the coach, and the fans. 19-2 runs do tend to take the life out of you, but we fought back and didn't get blown out. I will always remember this run and the guts of this team. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, we lost in the Elite 8 to the number one team in the country. Will take that any year. Go Flyers, We Are UD!!!!

Don't forget incoming frosh, Davis. Sounds like he can play either guard spot. I have been clamoring for more and better big men. It was obvious today that at that level only Kav could compete. We need two more bigs. Hopefully Scott improves a bunch.

All the bigs will be a year older next year. Hope for more improvement.
Davis will hopefully play a big role, but you can never count on anything from a freshman. Fortunately, if he isn't ready Day One then we don't have to. We have enough at those positions to cover the minutes. (Not like last year when Khari absolutely had to be our Day One backup PG to Dillard.)

He could compete , I just wish he could jump too! . Were going to lose his toughness next year and in certain games that kind of thing makes all the difference. His late swat in this game had me thinking they finally woke up, and here we go! Didn't happen but those are the kinds of plays that can spark a team.

The Flyers have hearts as big as DMO's sister!
Hope that carries over for next year.
Looks to me like Pierre is ready for the big time. Pollard had a coming out in the sweet sixteen. Scooch looked solid and unfazed by the big lights.
I'm already looking forward to next year!
Thanks Flyers!

Sounds like you forgot about Steve McElvene. He might be a little raw but he's going to be a monster for us in the future. So I'd say we need one more Big at the moment and hopefully there's a JUCO out there that fits the bill. This run and all the press should make it easier to land one if he's out there.

I had those same thoughts. That stretch in the Stanford game where all 3 freshmen were on the court and made a run... made me realize this year is not a one-time run. (Though we might not see the Elite 8 again for a while, we should be in the dance regularly.)
Pierre against Florida made me think (again) that he'll be all-conference. But I thought he'd be there this year. Hopeful...

You have got to be kidding me if you are your teams leading scorer you can't have a game with 0 points and only 3 shots. That is not a player he made no attempt to try and take over the game and lead us to victory !!!!

This team isn't programmed that way. No single player takes over games. This is a team that different players shine on different days. Where during this season did JS ever take the role of a Brian Roberts, Donald Smith, Don May or Roosevelt Champman?
Would suggest you find videos on the previous 35 games and educate your self.

Shut up. You can whine some other day on some other thread.
This was a special season. Sibert saved our bacon in the first **** game of the year. He came up huge in our three previous games. He didn't force it tonight. Heck yeah, we could have used his usual dozen points, but to come with your weak sauce? Pfft. Go away.

Fantastic season. Unbelievable fan support. We have nothing to apologize for. We were playing the number 1 team in the country and we needed to play a **** near perfect game. Unfortunately, we only played a very good game.
Florida is the #1 team in the country and we played them dead even for 38 out of 40 minutes.
Anyone who has a problem with tonight's effort is a complete imbecile. Sometimes it is just not your night. We missed some open shots and there were some rebounds at the end of the game that we just didn't get to, but overall we played our butts off. They could have folded after half-time but they came out and traded punches with the #1 seed in the tournament for 20 minutes.
I'm as disappointed as anyone that our season ended tonight, but if you have any problems with our team after that performance then you are a complete moron.
Sometimes the better team wins. Grow up and deal with it.
For those of you who weren't fortunate enough to make it to Memphis, you have no idea what you missed. The support for our team (and our University for that matter) was un-believable. The Florida fans I spoke to were stunned at the level of support we had tonight. Memphis was a sea of Red and Blue. I have been following this program since I was 4 years old and my Grandfather snuck me into practices at the Fieldhouse. I have never been prouder of my alma-mater and my home town than I have these past few weeks. There is truly something special about the University of Dayton. The stories I traded with complete strangers this week were absolutely awe inspiring. We are truly a community. Words cannot describe the support we had in Memphis. I hope all of you get the chance to experience it in the near future.

The worst part about losing this game is we have to wait another 8 months for Flyer Basketball.

What a fun ride that was. I think what makes it special is that nobody saw it coming. To all the folks who went to Memphis, way to represent. I even saw Towel Guy behind the UD bench. I thought we would win for sure then.
The bad thing about college hoops is unless you win the ncaa, nit, cbi, or cit, your season ends with a soul crushing loss. If that happens in the elite 8, your team did great. Can't wait till next year.

Fudd - glad to see the paper sack has been retired.

I watched some of the other videos tagged to the others. One about the Seniors on the squad hit me the hardest.
It's always tough to see them go.

Thank you, Flyers, for an amazing season. Sure, it would have been nice to have beaten Florida for a ticket to the Final Four, but no sadness is found here at the end of this wonderful run. Despite this loss, we all got so much more from this season than we ever imagined possible, even those who may have thought we would go this far. Why do I say this? Because we got so much more out of it than even the most optimistic of Flyer fans would have expected. The national media attention was out of this world, with one beautiful story after another highlighting what these fine young men have brought to the institution we all love so much. And then more beautiful stories giving the world a glimpse at this slice of heaven we call the University of Dayton. It's all been more than we could imagine possible, all of it great, and all of it invaluable.
We could talk forever about the wonderful play of our Flyers these last couple weeks, and wonderful play it was, but I've appreciated it for so much more than the great hoops moments. This run has brought an already tight UD community even closer, yet we've opened ourselves for the world to see what a special place UD is. I've thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this run because I've shared them with my fellow Flyers, so many of the best people on this planet.
And yet it's been so much more. It's allowed everyone not affiliated with UD to see just why we all hold this school so close to our hearts and understand why we treat it with such reverence. I'm forever proud to be a Dayton Flyer and now many more people understand why.
I hope you all savor the joy this season has brought us. I know I will.
Thanks again, Flyers.

I am slowly returning from cloud 9. I am probably on cloud 6 right now. The trip to Memphis was magical. The crowd chanting "We Are, UD" as we left the stadium was uber cool. My youngest son was meh about going to games before but I think this trip tatooed "Flyers" onto his DNA. One last thing, I called this run back on Feb 6! I had totally forgotten about my post on the Chris Johnson thread.
"This is such a ray of sunshine to counter the gloom and doom ( now anything is possible and the Flyers will run the table for the rest of the season!)"

They played JS very tight, realizing that a few open looks he'd drain them. I think Donovan's strategy was limit the 3's taken by JS, let the other UD players shoot em. JS didn't force the game and his few shots didn't drop- that happens. JS WAS KEY this year - he took Syracuse apart. One bad game doesn't a career make. Very happy he transferred from tOSU. Jordan is a winner. End of comment.

Thank you TEAM and especially thank you Seniors, Devin, Matt, Vee, and Brian.
According to Doug Hauschild (on WONE this afternoon), The run to the Elite Eight began, not in February of 2014, but in April of 2013. The seniors decided that this team would be together in as many ways as possible, no one would be left on their own. I know I saw them out together this fall, and read articles about things they were doing together.
When they had their January slide, some thought there was trouble in the locker room among the players. Not so. They were able to regroup quickly after Archie's adjustments because they were so close and had so much respect for each other. (my opinion)
Doug said they all played their part, but Devin was the most vocal of the senior leaders. He said they can't replace that kind of leadership. "Devin is one of the best leaders in the history of UD basketball."
Archie has a blueprint for the program. And I think the future leaders have a blueprint to lead. They have experienced the time and care it took to build a "True Team".
The T-shirt they wore Sunday said it all.
