I Felt the Earth Move!

BEVERLY HILLS (MI) -- Nothing like a little 5.5 magnitude earthquake to shake things up here in the Midwest. Meanwhile, these links are quake-proof:

-- This article is a few weeks old, but it’s a nice profile of BG done by Nate Crossman of College Chalktalk:

http://collegechalktalk.com/atlantic...6.1.10crossman

-- Buried in BG’s Twitter page, I found a link to this 19 picture salute to recently graduated senior Marcus Johnson:

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...1&l=d9aa677010

and a 16 shot review of Kurt’s career:

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...1&l=779514d981

Nicely done.

-- I’m afraid that if the choice comes down to UD Arena or Indianapolis for the now-4 team schedule of NCAA Play-in-Games, Indy wins. OSU Athletic Director Gene Smith, the Chairman of the Basketball Committee tends to agree:

-- For all of you stat-heads out there (I’m looking at you, Figgie), here is the “Inside” analysis of the A-10 courtesy of Ray Floriani at College Chalktalk:

http://collegechalktalk.com/atlantic....22.10floriani

-- Here’s a Conference poll where I actually don’t mind the Atlantic 10 being considered a mid-major –- it ranks the ratio of per-athlete expenditures to spending per academic student:

Seems the A-10 has their priorities straight when it comes to student athletes.

-- Jody Demling of the Louisville Courier-Journal gives BG and UD a mention in his blog:

“Several top teams in the area didn't compete in the Derek Smith Shootout this weekend, including Trinity. The Shamrocks went to Dayton, Ohio, and finished 6-0 in the Brian Gregory University of Dayton Team Camp.”

-- ESPN College Hoops analyst Mark Adams hasn’t had a new entry on his “Enthusiadams” blog for 4 months now, so I emailed “The Hometown Coach” to see what’s new in his world. That was a week ago and I’m still waiting for Mark’s response. Hopefully he is enjoying his summer off from life on the road.

-- When BG’s name was being bandied about as a possible replacement if Tom Izzo had left MSU, some folks wondered why Tom Crean wasn’t the front-runner. According to the Indy Star it would be really helpful if Crean was first able to recruit Indiana kids to play at IU:

-- The last of a dying breed -- a New York magazine feature on old-school HS hoops scout Tom Konchalski:

http://nymag.com/news/sports/66474/

-- The Sporting News graces us with their mock-up of what will happen in tonight’s NBA draft:

http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/The...y_or_elsewhere

How’d they do?

-- I’m sorry TSN Mike, but if I’m Joe Dumars or some other NBA GM who is standing on shaky ground, UK problem child Demarcus Cousins (and his 16% body fat) is the last guy I want to pick for my team:

http://www.sportingnews.com/college-...will-regret-it

Life is too short to put up with this kid’s nonsense. Character means something, even in the NBA.

-- Our free 6 month subscription to SiriusXM in our 2010 Mercury Milan just ran out last week. That means my wife and I both drive vehicles that are equipped with satellite radio, but don’t receive it. Guess I’m just a terrestrial radio guy at heart having spent 2 decades selling radio spots. Then again, I sold advertising for Sirius, too. Maybe I’m just cheap, huh?

One thing is for sure, tho: Mel Karmazin is including our two cars in his subscriber count when he’s selling ads for SiriusXM.

-- Speaking of “Sirius” Alan Parsons (the guy who gave the Chicago Bulls their intro music of the same name) has a new instrumental single out called “Alpha Centauri” that would make a fine introductory tune for the Flyers next season:

Somebody really needs to tell AP to go easy on the eye makeup -- he looks slightly demented in that picture, no?

-- My favorite bad movie of all time, Ed Wood’s B&W stinker “Plan 9 from Outer Space” starring the corpse of Bela Lugosi will soon be available in full-color and 3-D goodness:

That’s it “From the Swamp.”

Great new outdoor court for you to drop in on your next visit to Dayton. Video board and seating for approximately 400.

Well, Joe Dumars doesn't have to worry about making a mistake on Demarcus Cousins. He just got picked #5 overall by Sacramento.

Instead of re-issuing Plan 9, which was so bad it was good, why not creating ("discovering") the first 8 plans? They must have been so extremely bad they would be even better!

How could they have not included MJ's game winning dunk over LaSalle in the tweeted pictures? Or, were these only from this past season, not his entire career?
