St. Bonaventure Game Thread
Only 3 Words needed to get ready for this game:
STEP UP BOYS
And another 2 words from our wise coach:
NO EXCUSES
I want to see the same "no quit attitude" team that we saw Saturday afternoon. Let's Go DMO, it's your time to shine young man!
Go Archie and Go Flyers!

Five things you need to know about the Bonnies - Everyone knows Nicholson is a beast, but he is foul prone and can be neutralized on the double team. While he is adept at scoring face-up or back to the basket he'll turn it over if you can double him before he makes his move. Dayton has to go at him on offense and get him on the bench.
- The Bonaventure's Achilles Heel all year has been guard play. Because their frontcourt is turnover prone, when the guards don't protect the ball they don't have a chance. STB doesn't rebound or create enough turnovers to overcome the possession deficit.
- What the Bonnies do very well is score inside the arc. Nicholson and Conger are very active on the glass and adept at getting to the line. Both finish at over 55% on 2FGA and Dayton is vulnerable inside allowing teams to shoot 50% on 2FGA.
- Demetrius Conger is STB's secret weapon. While he is certainly benefitting from all of the attention Nicholson draws, Conger is equally as productive and more efficient. Conger is a high-energy player that finishes well and will knock down open threes. Conger has led the Bonnies in scoring in four games - most recently at Nigra with 27 going 8-10 from the floor and 11-13 from the FT line.
- Bonnies are 5-1 at home losing to Ark St, but the students (the heart and soul of the Reilly Center) are on break.

Nicholson always scares the crap out of me when we play him, completely forgot he did not play two years ago though. I think we don't win without Paul Williams stepping up tonight.

Seven assists on eight buckets, but the Bonnies seem like they will own the boards. Inconsistent whistles so far too.

Nice look into our future with Gavs and Oliver. Gavs is strong in the paint. Oliver is a heady ball hawk.

Both teams started cooling off as the half went on, but I was surprised how much the Bonnies went away from the boards after settling for jumpers. Good reaction on UD's part to push the ball down the court every time off a board and they've done a good job moving the ball around on offense to get the open shots. Keep the turnovers under eight in the second half and they can get out of town with another win.

I feel like we should be up by at least 10 points. They really played pretty well on both ends of the floor. A few too easy hoops for the Bonnies but overall I love the way we continue to feed the ball into the paint and/or drive to the hole to get the O rolling...

Three fouls on Hill, Gavrilovic, and Fabrizius now. Kavanaugh just one. Might see a lot of Nicholson down the stretch.

Chances died tonight when the three-ball died. Have missed the last seven now after KD came up short.

We hit 60 points around the 11-10 minute mark I think. Just ran out of gas.

I know Archie keeps preaching "we play who we've got" but this would not have been close with CJ and Josh

Bad part is that you no longer can say what this team would do with Benson. It's going to be judged how they play without him.

We missed Benson tonight more than CJ. Really need his length and quickness to guard Nicholson.

too many fouls on the interior. 18-20 between Cook and Nicholson. The defense was too porous to win on the road.

As Archie just said, Chris not playing is not the reason we lost...we were jump shot happy and not tough enough on defense.

I imagine it will get brought up in post game comments on the main board but...
We are a good shooting team when we take good shots.
When we get the ball in the interior, we win possessions.
When we get the ball in the paint, the perimeter shots become good shots.
We actually played technically sound D in the paint on many possessions, with a cheating double from the back side. That's what kept us in the game on the defensive end. When we didn't come with an effective double, we got smoked. Nicholson is a hell of a player. We weren't stopping him with JB or CJ.
Not making excuses, but it is hard to beat anyone with 8 scholarship players on a trip. Hell, who would have thought we would have a practice player traveling with the team? Not me. Take them as they come this year.

They shot like 90% from the line and have an NBA first rounder in the post while our nest pivot and arguably best all around player are out. We are still in the game on the road with two minutes left.
I'll take it.

I don't want to see St. Bonnie again. Nicholson absolutely kills us and I'd rather never see him play against the Flyers again.

Without looking at the box score, name our top rebounder for the game. Actually, it was a three way tie. Can you name them?

Not a big deal. We actually had a chance and Bona played out of their heads. If we are at full strength (Meaning CJ is back) we should be fine.

If Nicholson played against us every game, he'd be this year's college basketball POY.
But I saw him vs. the Illini down in Champaign about a month ago and it was completely different. He had a decent game and the Bonnies were in it to the end. But with the Illini up by 2-4 points in the closing minute, they fed the ball to Nicholson the last four trips down the floor.....and he promptly walked, then he dribble it off his foot, then he shot with a defender on him but barely drew iron, and the fourth time.....I forget. I am pretty sure he turned it over then, too.
Let's just say he choked big time in that game.
