THE MOST STUNNING display of team defense, reach ins, and blocks to thwart PRov All NIGHT. Dunn couldn't really get it going, and Henton had it even rougher. All thanks to an incredible UD defense, led by Kyle Davis.
Kyle was just unbelievable getting has hands on balls, bodying up, white on rice D on Dunn. Kudos to Scooch for some key steals as well.
Pollard incredible blocks. Pierre with more key defensive plays in the second half.
Then Pierre and Sibert and D Davis turned on the offense in the second half. GREAT , great stuff ..... fronted by a superior defensive performance.
Bobby W with another solid game as well. Go Flyers. Incredible@

After watching Kyle Davis on Dunn, I am in shock that he didn't make the A-10 all defense team. I have to admit I haven't seen all that many games this year - has he been that good on D all year?

Flyers got better shots the entire game. PC forced a lot their offense. Nice to see the team knock down a few perimeter shots. I am still waiting for a hot three point shooting game as they have not had one in some time.

Here's a head scratching stat:
Providence's 2 7-footers combined to take 0 shots in 25 minutes of playing time against our 6'6" post players. With Henton taking 26 shots I can see how that might be difficult, but since he missed 19 of them there certainly were opportunities for O-rbs and put-backs.
Or maybe they were scared to death of Pollard??!!

What was clear to me from my seats near the court: Henton and Dunn wanted to prove how much better PC was than little UD. They were going to stick it in our eye and show us a thing or 3.
Funny thing was, JS and KD were better than them.

Providence had a height advantage and two skilled players who played one on one. Their big men were super slow and not skilled.
UD used speed on defense to stymie Providence.
All the fuss over the T but UD was already up and Sibert made one of two. UD already the ball so it was a one point play. What was more important was Providence jogged to the rebound and Pierre hustled to it and got the loose ball. Once I saw the lack of hustle in front of us, I knew Providence was done.
This team is using speed and will. to negate height very well.

A couple telling stats about heart and hustle and desire and coaching: their two 7-footers took a combined ZERO shots. Kyle Davis had 9 rebounds.
I think Gazoo is spot on with his analysis above. Team ball beats hero ball every time.

As for more full game summary, I would say:
-KD takes offense at anyone who thinks they can score on him. He's shorter than every player he guards but does an AMAZING job of always making them shoot with someone in their chest. Dunn got shots, he took plenty. But I'm not sure he took 2 shots all night where KD wasn't legally right in his chest with his elbows behind his ears. The refs rightfully did not blow the whistle.
-UD is coached amazingly well on defense. You don't play that kind of team defense by accident. Guys don't get called for a lot of fouls because we're not fouling. We're taking position and if you make the shot, well, good on ya'.
-JS had to be sick. He had a look on his face like he was going to puke all night.
-"Hi, I'm Kendall Pollard. And I have DirectTV. "And I'm Freshman Kendall Pollard, and I have cable". Guess which one was in attendance last night. A bit of an exaggeration but he didn't play like he's played since January. Forced shots, game was too fast for him all the sudden. And 2-6 from the FT line.
-When teams play zone, Pierre has a big game. When they play man, Pollard has a big game. Choose 1.
-SS does a little bit of everything and played an incredible floor game. 1 TO, and Dunn is quick as lightning.
-If we could have gotten JS going just a little bit the game would have been a route. PC is lucky they only lost by 13.
-Thank you, Bobby Wehrli. Just. . . thank you. Dude was playing intramurals at this time last year and now he's playing against top competition and DID YOU SEE HIM STUFF THAT SHOT BACK IN THE FACE OF THE PC PLAYER?!?!?
-From about 3 months ago until 40 weeks from now there are a lot of baby boys in Dayton who are going to be named Archie.

Maybe also scared by Bobby Wherli. . . .he's getting better every game. Nice tip in, really did a great job boxing the PC bigs out, subbed in for multiple positions (Pollard and Pierre), and contributed to defense overall with 14 good minutes/.

Bobby does get better as the year goes. He can jump really well. His biggest problem is positioning on offense and defense, but last night was his best game.

As CBS ended their studio coverage, Seth Davis threw the stat out there about Henton making only 7 of 26 shots--26 shots--with ZERO assists. To which Mateen Cleaves joked "They call him Buckets, not Dishes!"

Very interesting, what a nice guy he is, and what a nice, classy gesture. See, not all Musketeers are bad.
Sure would be nice if they would advocate for UD's inclusion in the BE.

That right there is the biggest single take away from the game. Either Providence let UD, or Providence couldn't stop UD from forcing their will on the game. They can complain about officiating, location or time of game, but nothing speaks louder about why UD won that game than Rollo's quote above.
