VCU Match

I only caught the last half of the last set, but a sweep of VCU is impressive. We certainly controlled our A10 weekend. Hopefully the team is starting to roll and we will control our run to the NCAAs.

I had it on my schedule to watch both some of this match and the UDWSOC match but basically missed both. This is a good result however as VCU is considered one of our main contenders.

Yates and Lexie didnt provide much today so it was the more usual JPete and Moore show. Still no Papesh. I think knowing we beat VCU pretty handily w/o Papesh who on paper should be our #2 option, is a good sign.

I think we'd like to have that first SLU match again, but as I said it was the season opener for us and SLU had a few matches under their belt. I dont think we were quite lathered up yet but once we got used to game speed, made the second frame of the twin-bill more to our standard.

I watched the entire match. In the first set we started strong and pretty much had control the entire time, although VCU got going toward the end. In the second, they came on strong and kept a 3 or 4 point advantage until we were able to take our first lead at 21-20. When we took set 2, I thought/hoped we had broken their spirit. They were never in set 3.
Not being a knowledgeable fan, that's all I've got.

With the attendance numbers for the MBB Tourney at the Arena being increased last week, I was hoping for some fans to be allowed (at least some students). But the stands opposite the camera were still completely empty.

This was the first UD vs VCU match to go only 3 sets since 2012. That is 2 full 4 year recruiting classes (not including redshirts). In 2012, Dayton won the A-10 Tournament by defeating Temple and Xavier. Yep those two teams were still in the conference. The last team to sweep VCU was led by Seniors Rachel Krabacher, Samantha Selsky, and Paige Vargas.

This is more than a good result. This is a fantastic result. This is the end of a era.
