I think there's a connection with him and Cohill from grassroots ball
He's got enough talent that I think you have to take that gamble

Maybe, but you only take that gamble if you think he’ll fit the culture. We don’t need a repeat of 2017-18.

@TravisBranham_
Source: Grand Canyon junior J.J. Rhymes has entered the transfer portal. Averaged 5.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 12 games played this season.
UD recruited him out of JUCO. Dunno if there'd be interest this go around

I doubt there’s interest this time. We already have Blakney, Frazier, and Brea who fit the “big guard/small forward” profile.

Wow 5.4 points at Grand Canyon . Probably wouldn't do as well in the A10 but maybe 3-4 points here. We could really use a guy like that. Dreaming big now! Hell, he could be the next Ralph Hill!!!!!

With the freshman potentially not getting to campus till the fall and losing summer practices/workouts they'll be behind the 8 ball for contributing this year

Calling Mark Adams!
What kind of financial hit did College Men's Basketball take with the elimination of the NCAA

I think you're in the wrong thread. Probably meant to put it in the "UC drops men's soccer" thread.

Jaylen Forbes from Alabama just entered his name in the transfer portal. 6'4, lean athletic guard.
Seems like CAG's ideal type of player. Didn't shoot great this year but was a Freshman. Borderline Top 100 guy last year.
Sit 1 play 3. Combo guard. Seems like CAG often recruits guys that Alabama is connected with.

The Duke, UNCs and UKs of the world are in on the transfer game now and I think that competition trickles down to UD.
Duke got a PF grad transfer from Columbia who was the 4th leading scorer on a team that went 10-18 in the Ivy League. The demand for big guys with any kinda of production is ridiculous
|
From Hoop Vision email today:
The DI transfer market had traditionally been another way for programs to punch above their normal recruiting weight, largely due to the lack of participation from college basketball’s elite. But that’s changed.
In just the last two transfer cycles, the blue blood programs have been more active — potentially with more activity to come this week:
Kentucky: Davion Mintz (Creighton), Jacob Toppin ( Rhode Island), Nate Sestina (Bucknell)
Louisville: Carlik Jones (Radford), Charles Minlend (San Francisco), Fresh Kimble ( Saint Joseph's)
North Carolina: Justin Pierce (William & Mary), Christian Keeling (Charleston Southern)
Duke: Patrick Tape (Columbia)
Kansas: Isaiah Moss (Iowa)
As the nation’s top programs are now actively participating in the transfer market, a trickle-down effect emerges. Several years ago, a program like Iowa State could land a few of the best transfers available each year. Now, transfers are probably (if anything) getting over-recruited — particularly immediately eligible transfers.

A name to keep an eye on is Chudier Bile. He’s a 6’7” grad transfer who just announced he’s transferring and is already followed by Andy Farrell on Instagram and Twitter. Averaged 14.5 / 7.5 / 1.5 and shot 48% from the field and 37.5% from three. Lengthy and athletic forward who can grab a rebound and take it to the hole!

Here is a video from two years ago. This young man from Sudan is long, lean, and very athletic. He reminds me of the guy whom Dayton courted like 15 years ago but he chose X instead. I cannot recall his name. He had a lot of success at X.

"Bile led team with 14.3 points and 7.6 rebounds with 41 blocks … shot 48 percent from the field and warmed up to nearly 38 percent from 3-point range … his 104 made free throws is nearly double anyone else on the team."

The Blue Ribbon preseason Big South POY will have 2 years remaining of eligibility...
Dominican from the Bronx. Played on their youth national teams

Not sure if he'll end up here or not but I think it's a legit possibility. PSA coach just told me that Perez definitely wants an A10 school. I would say that gives us a pretty good shot.

Back on Feb.15, 2020 Northwestern State defeated McNeese St. 84-79 and Chudier Bile went for a season high 27 pts. and 9 rebounds and 4 for 4 from the free throw line. He was 104 for 141 (73.8%) from the free throw line for the season. I hope Andy Farrell keeps close contact because he may be a real sleeper.

According to Jeff Borzello, UD is among those to reach out to Perez so far:
Gardner-Webb transfer Jose Perez has heard from 30-plus schools since entering the portal, including:
Memphis
DePaul
Missouri
Georgia
Georgia Tech
Iowa State
Rhode Island
St. John's
Marquette
Tulsa
New Mexico
BYU
Illinois
Dayton
San Diego

Seeing the list above it looks like there are some bigger schools than the A10 on it, so not sure that my original statement holds any weight now. If you are set on the A10 and then P5/BE schools come calling you might reconsider your options.

Jordan Sibert
didn't do much doesn't matter to me anymore..

Nelson was the backup to Myles Powell, who played most minutes of every game. He a was a recruiting target for UD as a freshman, and has been practicing and playing 10 minutes a game for a top 25 team. Definitely worth heavy consideration.

He HAD UD in his final 3 with Seton Hall & Minnesota coming out of high school. Just clarifying that he doesn't have a current top 3 suitors as I was a little confused reading that.

Nothing new has been updated on Alonzo Gaffney for awhile and the other two Ohio State players in the transfer portal have already chosen their next schools, DJ Carton selected Marquette and Luther Muhammad selected Arizona St. Does anyone know if Gaffney has developed a short list yet? At 6'9" I would think he may look good in a Flyer uniform and we need forwards. Cohill may be of some help in his recruitment and I am sure he is aware of the success Jordan Sibert had at UD!

Here’s an article on Jose Perez:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/247spor...146263314/Amp/
“ Thus far, Perez, a 6-foot-5 guard out of the Bronx (N.Y.), has heard from DePaul, Memphis, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Marquette, Rhode Island, Dayton, Illinois, Iowa State, Missouri, BYU and New Mexico.
Do any of the schools that have called stand out to Perez?
“Not as of right now,” Perez said. “Memphis coach Cody Toppert has reached out repeatedly. He put me through the process of what they’re looking for if I was to go there.”

Via Corey Evans:
Evansville forward DeAndre Williams has entered his name into the Transfer Portal, his coach tells
@RivalsPortal
.
Averaged 15.2 points, 6.9 rebounds & 2.7 assists last season
EXTREMELY efficient 6’9” forward shooting 65% overall and 45% from three... numbers sound kind of familiar from a 6’9” forward. In addition to the stat line Evansville went 9-9 including a win over Kentucky with him on the court and were winless once he went down with a back injury. Would be a HUGE get as he’d fit into AG’s system like a glove!

Do we know if this is a grad transfer? Seems kinda odd that at this point in his career he’d be willing to sit a year, with only one year of eligibility left.

Would love to see our coaches reach out to him, but I have a feeling he’s in search of bluer pastures (as in, Blue Blood programs). Or greener pastures (as in, $$$$). And, at some schools, those terms could be used interchangeably.

To me the elephant in the room is what he knows about next year's VCU squad, but Santos-Silva is professional about not sharing it.

5'9 and 150 lbs but he hit 138 threes in two years. I'll take a small, faster, killer 3pt shooter all day.
Sit 1 play 2 kid. Started 15 games for Memphis as a freshman and came off the bench as a Sophomore. Averaged nearly 9ppg.

two of the quickest, awesome players
I have ever seen here at the Greensboro Coliseum
that were short in stature:
Spud Webb
Mugsy Bogues
dang, Mugsy made the other 9 players
on the court look like they were in
slow motion....
this young man can put up the trey,
even better...
Go Flyers!

Tyler Harris is a 85.1% shooter from the free throw line! Outstanding! Oldtimers remember 5'4" Shawnta Rogers from GW (1995-99) who used to handle the ball 100% of the time when GW had a lead at the end of games and he was automatic from the free throw line!

There is nothing I would like more than to beat out KY for DeAndre Williams services! Oh, by the way his free throw percentage for Evansville was 80% and we saw what having an EXTREMELY efficient 6'9" POY forward did for us this past season! Not saying he is as good as Obi (not many are) but might be the best fit for AG's culture of any transfer out there.

Sounds like a Fatts Russell clone. If so, the yellow caution sign goes up. Is Harris a team player that would fit into AG's scheme. Fatts would not. Fatts had the ball in his hands a lot while looking for his shot perpetually. I have suspicions that he might be part of URI churning going on.

Harris is basically a three point shooter. Only averaged a little over 2 two point shots per game while taking over 5 threes. Only hit about 38% of his twos.

Have you seen him play? You can't equate a small kid with another small kid due to a quick look at a stat sheet. Also if you pull a kid out of a certain system and insert them in a new one there are so many variables that can change. What's the offensive strategy, who else is on the court, did the coach tell them to shoot like crazy cause no one else on the team can get a bucket?
I agree Fatts wouldnt fit but I've seen him play 30+ plus times the last few years. I can't same the same about Harris.
Also Grant wouldn't let a guy like Fatts play like Cox has let him play the last couple of years.

How about Richmond's Jacob Gilyard at 5'9". He tore us up this year for 29 pts. Averaged 5.7 assists, 3.2 steals and 12.7 pts, and was a solid leader. He is exhibit A, and only a junior. Hopefully Harris is a little bit of Gilyard.

North Carolina’s Jeremiah Francis will transfer, he told @Stockrisers over the phone this morning. The freshman guard showed flashes this season, when given opportunity.
I expect no shortage of suitors here.

Interesting that Francis is transferring because Cole Anthony has declared for the draft. Maybe he knows Anthony is coming back. He goes to a top school as a point guard to play behind a stud in Anthony. What was he thinking?
He has been injured for most of the last three years, so a year sitting out may help him. I hope he can play, because he is a talent.

UNC has another likely one and done PG coming next year from St. Louis and with his injury history UNC will keep recruiting over him every year. That's the tough reality of committing to the top programs. Great when you are healthy and the top dog but if you stumble you can lose your spot in the program pretty quick. I read his bio and I'm impressed that UNC stuck by him as he was injured his Jr and Sr years. They brought him in based on his age 15/16 games. He must of been a stud and hope he can find it again when fully healthy.

Based on just how strong of a prospect Francis was as a sophomore for Pickerington, it’s fair to believe that his peak of No. 48 on the 247Sports Composite wasn’t his true ceiling, and that, with two more seasons of high school ball ahead of him, he could’ve climbed well into the 30s and 20s and prove himself to be one of the nation’s top guards.
Through just two seasons of high school basketball, Jeremiah Francis had emerged as the (then) top point guard in Ohio, routinely putting his pull-up scoring, patient playmaking, and relentless downhill finishing on display. There was so much to love about his game and his room for maturation, both in terms of raw skill and physical profile, and although he’s been on the shelf for two years, there’s still the potential that he returns to form once healthy.

redshirt year to get fully healthy could be a blessing in disguise

Nah, just it feels personally like a perfect fit and we were on him during his HS years (offered him as well).
So just keep an eye on him if he wants to come closer to home... Seems Natural... But we'll see.

An added potential advantage is that he's likely been on campus and seen the facilities before
Dayton was the only non power conference program on his top 10 as a recruit

Freshman weren't eligible in 1966 but there was a Jerry Francis on the UD roster from 1967-68 when we won the NIT. On the freshman team in 1966 he was the second leading scorer at 16.6 points per game. He scored all of two points in his brief career at the University of Dayton on the varsity his sophomore season!
Jeremiah Francis dad, Jerry, attended OSU from 1985-89 so it is possibly his granddad. The Jerry Francis that played for UD was an All-Ohio High School player from Columbus West. Jerry and his son Jeremiah both attended Pickerington High School which is about a twenty minute drive from Columbus.
If somebody knows definitely whether is in fact his granddad maybe they could post.

Actually, I believe that Jerry Francis the father went to Bishop Wherle High School in Columbus, which no longer exists. Wherle won several small school state titles in the 80s, and Jerry Francis played there with another kid that made his way to OSU, Eli Brewster.

Remember the 87 game well. At St. John's, got my tickets from a friend whose dad was a veterinarian in Columbus, who got them from a salesman. According to those sitting around us, we had Rick Bay's seats. This was after he fired Earl Bruce and was planning on resigning, or already announced his resignation.
Hopson went on to score 40+ points that night for the Bucks, but the Flyers won. Great night.

Took a look at the stats regarding D2 players moving up to D1 as scholarship players.
In the past five classes, 26 have made the jump and played at least one season.
Of those, 12 averaged 10+ ppg at least once at the D1 level. Two others earned all-conference or DPOY honors.
Thought this was interesting

At some point, you have to start wondering if James Kane was the transfer whisperer. If I remember correctly, three of the four big transfers all occurred while Kane, known for his recruiting chops, was on the staff.

Once again, players that transfer from lower level D1 programs aren’t looking to play in a league where too many of the teams play in high school gyms. I’m guessing that kids like Perez felt slighted during their initial recruitment and are looking to play for “big time” programs.
For the most part, the transfer players Dayton attracts are disillusioned players from P5 programs. Chase, Jordy, and Ibi are prime examples.
Until we get out of the A10, this recruiting disadvantage will continue to exist and is difficult to overcome.

If this staff has shown us anything, it's that they're not going to change what they are looking for or their methods to accommodate anyone. They'll get who they get and if they don't, they're prepared to get someone else or go without. It's frustrating to watch these players go elsewhere, but if they or the staff ultimately aren't on the same page, it's better they not be here, for whatever reason. I'm sure we're leaving no stone unturned, including unsigned 2020, transfers, and looking ahead to 2021 and beyond. It's worked so far, we'll see if it continues to work out.

We can afford to be picky. I am very comfortable playing with the guys on the team already. If we add a transfer, I would hope they have elite level skill.

Michigan transfer Colin Castleton stays home and will play for the Gators... Seemed like it was his preferred destination the entire time

Jimmy Jackson told a quick story on Fox Sports this year about Jerry Francis IIRC hosting him on a recruiting visit to OSU...they had a wild night...hc Gary Williams heard about what happened and got angry at the 2 of them.

Same high school as Ibi Watson. I wonder why he hasn't heard from Dayton! Ibi could be a good resource! BYU already got 7'3" Matt Haarms from the transfer portal. It's about time we get one of these good players. I keep forgeting that in AG we trust and maybe he has someone else in mind!

If he gets exonerated, I wonder if he becomes gun shy and sees his minutes and average drop.
