AdvoCare Invitational
The Orlando Classic does not make this list (maybe ESPN is not a sponsor):

It is now called the Advocare invitational and it is the first tournament mentioned in the article. And ESPN is a sponsor.
"• The Advocare Invitational, featuring Elite Eight participant Notre Dame and Wichita State."
Related, here is a cbssports.com article that gives letter grades to all of the preseason tournaments:
http://www.cbssports.com/collegebask...er-tournaments
Excerpt on Advocare:
"Grade: A-. This is one of the better ones, year in and year out. Dayton: solid. Iowa: solid. Xavie: solid. Wichita State and Notre Dame: very solid. Plus, USC is going to be better this year (some coaches told me in July they expect the Trojans to win 20 games). Alabama is entering the first phase of the Avery Johnson era. Good field, and when you've got multiple NCAA tourney-level teams reasonably capable of winning the tournament, it's a big win."

It was posted and discussed in the other Orlando tournament thread called Orlando Classic. There's just 2 threads discussing the same things.

I have to smile in having been able to put Dayton Flyer basketball aside for so long.
It is hugely satisfying to have such passion looking forward.

I'm too lazy to look but there must be another post. I posted in that one... the gym holds 5000. The championship game attendance was a little over 4800 so a sellout is possible. I didn't see individual game attendance when I looked.
Not sure about individual game tickets.

I am going and have been following this. I have been told that individual tix go on sale 10/1/15 (or it may be 11/1/15...I can't remember). I already got my tix for all sessions because I didn't want to take the chance of it selling out prior to that date. I believe individual tix come out to $90 total for all three games and all sessions are $125. Something like that.

If anybody is scared off by just one player doing a bad thing, what ever he did, they are not a true fan.

Ummmm, if we're specifically talking about the Orlando tourney (which we are, since this is a thread about that), then it's not a question of fandom or bandwagoning.... we're all still Flyer fans.
But if the "one player" is our best player (and he is), and a goodly portion of our season was predicated on using Orlando to build our tourney resume, then it's perfectly reasonable to be a bit upset. Orlando could be a win against Iowa and two more games against NCAA tourney teams, or it could be loss to Iowa and two more games against frenchers. That's a pretty big chasm between those two outcomes, and today's news makes one of those outcomes more probably than the other.
I'm a true fan, but that doesn't stop me from being a Sad Fan on this day....

I have been to this tourny and it does not sell out. Just like every other tourny they are ill prepared to sell tickets and the lines are long. It seems that these tourny's don't understand the crush of UD fans that take over. In PR last year we were in danger of missing the tip until ESPN got involved and told them to just let us in for free because they wanted fannies in the seats.
I have also been to a couple of pre-parties that run out of beer. We are an underestimated group on a lot of levels.

I read the stadium can hold 5,500 and last years championship game had 4,800.
UD, Iowa, X and ND fans travel to these events better than almost any other school. Couple that with other strong fan bases in USC, Bama and Whichita State, the tournament could easily sell out this year.
Who knows if it will or won't, but while last year had big teams in Kansas, MSU, UT, I think there will be more people this year. Don't wait for the lines at the game. Buy your tickets now.

As I wrote in the Orlando Classic thread:
We obviously travel well as has been shown time and again. But I think there are other issues that will drive some of the other school's fan attendance.
It is Alabama-Auburn and USC-UCLA weekend. Alabama won't have any showing. Leaving the state that weekend is probably illegal. USC probably wouldn't have had a showing in Florida anyway. Iowa and ND have their last football games that weekend as well. I would expect only locals.
I don't know how well Wichita State or X travel but I don't think it's comparable to us. We should have a home court type advantage for every game.

Sorry about that, I should have been more specific when making that comment. I was talking about people backing out of their tickets for Orlando because of what rumors have come out about DP. Yes, I am upset about the situation as well.

We have several very solid guards, just need Sam Miller and/or Big Steve to step it up.
This challenge will give opps to these guys, as well as Mikesell.

I see Sam Miller stepping in for Pierre. Big shoes to fill, hope he can respond. I don't see Steve starting as a result....they will bring him along slowly.

Alabama, ND and USC are 3 of the largest fan bases and have fans all over the country. I don't anticipate USC being represented with the most fans at the tournament, but due to the national exposure and USC brand they will still have a good turnout. Bama is in the same boat.
NDs last football game is at Stanford. I can't envision more than a handful of ND fans that are currently debating whether they will travel to California OR Florida during that stretch. Most already plan to watch the game on TV. So if the plan is to watch it on TV, why not do so in Florida on Saturday when there are no basketball games? Basketball in person Th/F/Su and football at ESPN Zone Saturday. That'd be my thought if I was a ND fan.

Tide, USC and ND are football first schools. UA and USC don't draw at home, hard to see many fans traveling, and the football matchups will make it worse. ND may have fans but doubt they match the Flyers.

Alabama fans don't show up to Alabama games at home. Don't expect a large turnout from them. USC is pretty much the same way (at least judging by when we played them out there). I could see ND bringing some fans, but I imagine the football game would temper the enthusiasm (unless they are already in the area).

I think my initial point was missed.
I'm not lobbying that Dayton won't be represented the best, because I think we will.
I don't think USC/Bama are going to have 1,000 people each, because I think they won't.
What I am saying, I think this will be the most popular 'Orlando/Old Spice/Advocare Classic' to date. To the previous poster that said he went before and it wasn't that crowded, I'm assuming you went in 2011 when it was us, and the big schools were Wake, Minnesota, AZ State, Texas Tech and DePaul.
This years tournament has undoubtedly bigger named schools with bigger national fan bases in Notre Dame, USC and Bama, and better traveling schools with better skilled basketball teams in X, Wichita St and Iowa. Plus us. This will bring more people out than in years past, so if you haven't bought tickets yet, do it -- don't wait til you get to the gate.

A couple weeks ago, UD sent out an email stating that over 50% of ALL packages sold for the tournament were sold to UD fans.
As fan bases go, we are the big dogs of the tournament. Only Gonzaga edged us out in Maui. As noted, the football schools will have minimal representation. X fans didn't travel up I-75 for the First Four and were pathetic when the A10 was at US Bank Arena. They don't travel and are nowhere to be found for sessions when X isn't playing. Wichita St may have a following. Recent success, no big time football, and Kansas weather in late November may be motivation.
If UD makes it to the finals, tickets may be a challenge as UD fans come out of the woodwork as success builds.
