Ugh
Well, this is one of those games that ended up a bit of a head scratcher. You can't chuck up 33 , that's right, 33 3PT attempts and win, even hitting them at a 39% clip. You have no chance of getting to the FT line, getting the other team in foul trouble, etc.
Too much passing around the exterior and then chuck a 3. When we did drive, we had several very nice layups/dunks off the pass.
Defensively, we couldn't stop anyone today. Going to be a long season if the D doesn't improve.
Did I mention FTs? We had 7, yes, 7 total attempts.
I had high hopes for Svoboda since he was older and played against decent competition in Europe. He hasn't done much on the court yet.
Kostas didn't play nearly as much today. Not sure if that was a matchup issue or what. Maybe a conditioning issue too, since he missed so much time. The season wasn't going to be won or lost today, so if conditioning is an issue for him, don't push it.
X Williams apparently has forgotten how to shoot.
Not enough touches for Cunningham down low.
ODU with 11 offensive rebounds, Flyers with 5 but it seemed much worse. Of course, when you are chucking up 3s and all the players are on the perimeter, you aren't going to get many rebounds.
Crutcher with a bad shooting game today. 0-5 from the floor.
Jordan Davis continues to impress.
Darrell Davis with 27. Flyers lose all 3 games without him. What a great start to the season for him. Hope it continues throughout.
The season will have many ups and downs, today was one of those downs, just like the Hofstra game. We started out fine but once we got down, we just couldn't climb out of the hole. Got it to 7 in the second half only to not only not get any more stops but to make a few stupid plays and be right back down 11-13.
On the next game.

Jordan should have got the starting nod instead of Kostas. That's nothing against Kostas, but not a fan of X sliding to the 3 with Kostas/Josh at the 4/5. I'd keep him there even with a healthy Landers.

I have to disagree, X has definitely not forgotten how to shoot, he has forgotten how to shoot well and he has forgotten how to not shoot. Don't get me wrong, I like Williams, but at some point he needs to be pulled aside and told to not shoot so many 3s, until he hits them.

Casting...
Better find a way within this offense scheme to get to the free stripe. Casting away like you’re auditioning for “A River Runs Through It” will not get it done. It is still and will always be about guard play coupled with an inside presence.

So, you are saying don't shoot them until you make them? Cool.

Precisely why the offensive scheme seen so far works for 5 guys who can make open shots, create off the bounce, etc...not guys who actually need some screening action and basic basketball to score...not ISO ball...

Just think things are this ugly and we haven't played in front of a hostile crowd yet.

Just wait until our third loss in a row at home. Hopefully that won't happen.

The home crowd may be get hostile if the effort level doesn't improve from what we watched today. Nobody likes losing but losing and looking like you aren't playing hard will get you booed by your own fans.

Keith W called out the Flyers for lack of effort several times on the radio broadcast. Poor shooting/poor execution can be forgiven to some extent. Lack of effort and energy cannot.

The chucking of threes has to stop - especially when there's no one under the basket to get a rebound. There is absolutely no discipline on offense. We have Kostas and Josh who can more than hold their own on the post, but we refuse to leverage that.
Coach, how about running an offense?

Hopefully playing in front of a hostile crowd doesn't include the home court!

I saw the first two games. I saw a lot of offense in which 4 to 5 guys were outside along the perimeter and a shot went up to give the opposing team an easy rebound.

I agree. However, there were plenty of sequences where we had great ball movement, but it appeared that we lacked confidence to see the play through... as in penetrate the lane. That's where the lack of game experience really hurts this team. Also there were several sequences where even DD stopped the flow. I suspect this is likely because he felt he had to "make a play". Finally, agree with Josh, but I don't see Kostas there yet. Add another 20 lbs of muscle, and get ready for total beast mode.
