Miami Game Thread
Great win on Wednesday... Time to get back at it tomorrow night!
Reminder game is at 8 on WHIO and will be streamed on daytonflyers.com.
Miami is without Bill Edwards who is out for the year with an injury, plus they are just not very good this year.
Starting Lineup:
G Quinten Rollins 6'0" JR
G Reggie Johnson 6'1" FR
G Allen Roberts 6'3" RS JR
F Will Felder 6'7" RS JR
F Jon Harris 6'8" JR

looking at the stats the biggest weakness of Miami is rebounding and in their loss at evansville they had 1 offensive rebound and got pounded 38-13 on the glass.

Is it just me (I'm sure its not) but I no longer hold the Miami game as special as I did even 3-4 years ago. When UD dropped them from the schedule I was one of the many who thought it was wrong and was happy to see Miami re-instated. Sure the games were sometimes snooze fests, but Charlie Coles teams generally provided a tough matchup that I thought provided a good test for UD heading into games like SLU. Plus there was the whole history of the rivarly, memories of Wally World lighting thing up, etc...
Now that Miami has dropped UD from the schedule going forward, I have a big ol' "meh" feel about it. I hope UD gives them a big ol' whoppin for old times sake, then perhaps we'll see them again in another decade or two.

If Devin Oliver can cover a guard, they are going to have some serious matchup problems when we have the ball.

I'd like this to be a game where Khari can get some major time at PG without KD in the game. Let KD rest. Also like to see Matt D and Alex get some good minutes and build some confidence.

I hope we have an easy time, but this is a real trap game after the big win at Bama. We need to blow them out in the first ten minutes and keep the hammer down till about the last 3 minutes. Miami will come in loose with nothing to lose, and bombing in shots they never make on the playground, or pull a NIU. The have given up 80 or more in 4 of 7 games, so Charlie Cole has been buried and forgotten. They mostly score in the 50's. They have won 3 games against mediocre competition.

i think Jalen/Benson or one of two bigs have good game for us offensively.
i agree with another poster. Time to get Matty D and Alex going. If Alex gets nothing going these next 5-10 games, he will be buried on the bench this year (and likely for his career) and Scott will get minutes in my opinion.
More important to get Matt D minutes, Alex and continue to have Dyshawn grow in his comfort level and contributions.
Khari is doing more than fine in my estimation.

Prediction:
Oliver 15 points, 7 boards
Jalen 10-12 points
Hard to say with the rest. I'll go on small limb and say 6-8 points for Derenbecker

So far this year JR has not done well in a fast pace game. He is at his best in the half court receiving the pass under the basket. I think the stars will be the same ones that shined in Tuscalousa. With that said, sooner or later, MD is going to have a breakout performance. This game might be it.

And this team is very difficult to predict with scoring and who the two or three stars will be .

Let's see if we've settled down. I think we should see a lot of Derenbecker and Scott if the Flyers take care of business and open up a nice, safe lead.

The key to this point is Miami is packing it in and we are settling for too many threes. We are 1 for 8. At that rate we will take 30 threes and lose.

Miami offense seeing the gaps, driving and making the right plays.
Think we underestimated this team.
i'm not happy with Dillard's shot selection, our turnovers, and energy.
Good offensive rebounding last few trips. Great play by Josh Benson.
H'es gotta hit free throws at a better rate however.

Derenbecker obviously is not in the main rotation. Mustn't be performing in practice> OR i think perhaps it 's his lack of quicknesss/game speed. who knows.
I like the KD/KP combo alot. Esp when they were severely and effectivey pressuring Dillard in first 12 minutes. Got him out of his game. Good call by Coach Cooper.

Pierre quietly has 5 boards along with his 6 points.
Some good sequences by him , along with that pass he made after driving.
This guy will b e a STUD.
Gotta get more offense from Vee in the second half imo.

Ever wonder where they got the backgroubd music for the A10 commercial? You know, the one that winds it way throught the A10 schools. It sounds like a dirge. Like it was meant for background music for the Bataan Death March.

Had checked before I posed the question and thought it was 64%.
Bad night.

Miami 11 points in 12 minutes. That's more like it.

Pretty good prediction!

5 players already in double figures. You don't lose too many with that effort!

Dillard seems steady at 15 and 5.
Jalen with some nice dropins from close. He's just a nice freshman to have. Will def grow more these next few years.
The way Oliver is playing i'm not sure these numbers will continue. If they do, he's a 16 point 9 rebound player next year a senior. That's way ahead of Chris Wright.
DMO just has crazy nose for the ball. Love this guy.

Looks like Archie is settling in on his game rotations, getting ready for conference play and it looks like Gavs and MD are not part of it unless something isn't right with them.

at this point, Miller should be instructing Khari and Dill, let's get Devon Scott, MD and Alex some touches.
we are just filling stat sheets nowfor our main 7 guys anyway.

Not much to pick apart in that win. Well played. I was a little worried we would be flat after the Bama win. Flyer Hoops sweeps today!

Robust win.
Just what the Dr. ordered before a week long break.
Hit the practice floor hard, we got things to work on.
Big game next weekend.
Happy for now.

All starters in double figures. Impressive.
Came back well after a bit of a shaky start. After Alabama, I feared a let up but we did not.

Good call!
Matt D has a nice stroke, it's like he just needs to get in rhythm or something. If he could contribute a few treys a game off the bench, that would be a nice boost, an added threat, another guy to guard...

Another great win.
This one scared me before tipoff - easy to fall into a trap here - but the 2nd half proved the Flyers are ok.
I was glad to see Derenbecker hit a couple. He will be just fine. Good addition to the team - better than Fab.
I feel good about Scott and Gav also - they are gaining confidence and I think will be a solid part of the attack in the coming months. I bet Gav is still not back to full strength. Will be strong in Jan.
Glad to see all five starters in double figure scoring. Benson should use his baby hook more often. It is a thing of beauty.
This team has me expecting a lot of good wins.

Yeh, but . . . DMO doesn't have Juwan Staten not feeding him the ball.
Just sayin' . . .

exactleee right Glen.
Chris woulda been an 18 (or more) and 10 guy with an unselfish point guard, and more alley oops ala London. Really too bad Chris didn't have that killer senior year.
