Justin Ahrens?

I thought I read we offered him a scholarship along with a dozen others. I didn't see anything posted here. Anyone with any knowledge of him have anything to share? Do we have a legit chance on him?

He is not as athletic as his brother playing at Michigan State but he is a better shooter. I think they list him at 6'6" but i would say he is closer to 6'4"/6'5". Has a decent overall game. Plays in the same league as Ryan Mikesell, all Div 3/4 teams but most of them have nice size and pretty decent competition, just not the athletes the bigger schools have. But he does play on a big AAU team to get his exposure. He is more aggressive than Ryan and probable more athletic. No i dont think UD will end up with him, I believe he will recommit to OSU but you never know.

Looks like he de-committed from OSU and received some various offers. From the looks of who else offered, UD has a good shot (assuming, of course, UD still wants him).

May depend if a kid is dead-set on wanting to play in a P5 conference. Right now his only P5 offer is Texas A&M, but others have shown interest. His older brother -- same class and small school conference as Ryan Mikesell -- plays at Michigan State, but does not get a lot of minutes in 2 years. Not sure that will have any affect on the desire to play in a P5 conference.

Sometimes being local almost seems to have a negative effect as much as a positive one. A kid wants to prove he's not settling for the small hometown school. I read in a recent article that "distance" was not a factor to him.

His brother will likely have input. He went to MSU and through 2 years has not seen the floor a lot. Will he get time this season?

He is a 2018 recruit so it's in the 2018 recruiting thread. Starts about post #84

I'm not sure what you mean by - if UD still wants him. We just offered him last week.

Look man, Anthony Grant moves fast. He offers you, you have 1 week.

After one week, it's:
"Oh, you haven't committed yet? We're moving on! Offer pulled!
We don't have time for your wishy-washy crap!"

I hope he has learned from his brother that the Big 10 was a bad choice. They are all about size, bulk, and stiff defenses. Kyle would have been much better at someplace like UD, Butler, or Miami. Kyle will no doubt get a degree, but he will be riding the pine for the next two years.

I said the exact same thing about Caris Levert. And the dude proved to be a star in the Big 10 with a stellar career, narrowly missing being a lottery pick (drafted number 20). But it definitely looks like Kyle could have been better off somewhere like UD... and it looks like he is going to stick it out i.e. Maverick Morgan (another who flopped in the Big Ten) as opposed to taking the Jordan Sibert course of correction. But it will for sure be interesting to see whether Justin looks to his brother's career as a cautionary tale or more of a competitive challenge. He wasn't a star in the Big Ten, but I'm going to make it there kind of thing...

Based on the profiles of the players we have offered for 2018, and assuming we still just have the 1 opening, Ahrens wouldn't be my first choice, but he's not a bad choice.

Whether the Big10 was a good decision will likely be determined this year. While it doesn't look great for Ahrens at MSU but who really knows.

Justin just needs to know that bigger isn't always better.

In all fairness to Kyle, his athleticism was affected by his broken leg. I believe that occurred in his senior year. That really set him back. Justin isn't as athletic, but he is a better shooter and ball-handler.
