I'd still like to see at least one game before a men's game to get people who normally don't come to the women's game.

Or Green could put a better team on the floor! Who’s interested in what should be a blow out against an absurdly bad Lipscomb?

My guess is there are too many logistical problems with that especially in regard to traffic flow in and out of the parking lot after the women's game, not to mention tickets (would they have to clear the arena after the women's to not have any holdovers without tickets for the men's game?). Not saying it couldn't be done, but it would be a major undertaking and I'm not sure they would pickup many extra fans if they had to come 4 hours (at a minimum) before the start of the men's game.

They did do a few doubleheaders in the distant past, but it was when the women drew hardly any fans.

Wow they all can't be South Carolina or UConn - don't you think you're being way too harsh since the season hasn't even started yet? And the team got a good test from Ashland last week in case you didn't notice.

Can I assume you will therefore be in attendance for the UConn and South Carolina games?

We need games like Lipscomb...it helps us see different combinations and allows for trying things out with hopefully little pressure from them. Not to say this is a sure win, but hoping we get to see a lot of people play in game situations.

I for one am coming from Columbus because I love the Flyers program and can sit close to the action and it allows me to judge for myself what I think will happen during the rest of the season.

Looking forward to seeing our only healthy freshman and our transfer.

Go Flyers!

I would expect a closer game than some think. Maybe 71-61 Flyers. First games are usually pretty ugly. Everybody is tight and figuring out their purpose. Lipscomb only won a handful of games last year, but that wont matter unless we finish bunnies inside. Anxious to see how we fare in the 4th quarter this year too. That was our death sentence a year ago. Blowing leads late or hitting droughts where we only scored 2-3 points in an entire qtr.

Nice to win but that was expected against this level of opponent. We look an awful lot like last year and that’s not inspiring.

Mixed bag in 82-60 Flyer win.

The good:
- Killed them on the boards -- 16 offensive rebounds to just 2.
- Killed them in second chance points -- 19pts to 2pts
- Limited them to 37% shooting
Much of this is a replay of last year when UD had a Top-10 defense in terms of stats
- 16 Asts to just 12 TOs
- 36-11 advantage in FT attempts -- big storyline when we were not shooting well..we were making up for it by getting to the foul line

The Not So Good:
- Couldnt shoot the ball. 38% from the field. Did not finish well inside. The bigs shot close to 50% combined, but with the looks they had it should have been 70%.
- Couldnt shoot from the perimeter (4-20 from three).

On the road at Toledo will be an entirely different test. Will have to play better than tonight to be competitive in that one, let alone get the road W.

My early prediction:
Toledo 79 Dayton 64

We have never played well at Toledo. We killed them last year at home, but they killed us the year before when UD went on the road.

I was impressed by Whalen - she has a blue collar scorer approach and she's not hesitant to take a shot. 19 points. You can see why she was a five star recruit out of high school. And both Bradshaw and Fowler look to me like they've made a step up. Giacone missed a lot of shots, but I think she just had an off night. She will score. Glad to see Skeens get some time, and even Szabo looked like she knew her role and played well.

Fun game to watch. And the new lighting looks like it almost hurts your eyes. Anybody heard any comments from the players on the increased lighting? Are they using "full spectrum" lights in place of the old strong but yellowish incandescents? Might just be my imagination, but my stream on espn+ looked brighter.

Will be fun to follow both the men and the women this year!

I asked some players about the lighting and they said no effect. Whalen should be the #2 scorer behind Jayla and be in double digits - that was may takeaway last night to see her potential. Yes, outside shooting is still a big concern.

First time watching this year.
Concerned with small PGs (again). While good athletes, I question whether they can see offensive openings or just don't trust certain people yet.
Concerned about shooting - willing to take them, but 'there's a reason your open out there'.
Concerned with offense and flow. Hopefully just early in the year. But remember big topics with Archie's teams... keep the ball moving, from one side to another, etc. I did not see much speed with purpose last night.
Concerned with chemistry. All 'cheering' seemed forced to me. Not much interaction with team mates, other than after something went wrong. Some team having 'it', others don't. Too early, but worried this team is a "don't".

Hope I am just nervous Nancy (but it's what I saw last night). So early, hoping to see improvements.

By the way, what's the deal with Skeens?
I thought she would develop into that outside threat that we always seem to have on roster. She seems to move well and be ready, but has to go get the ball in order to touch it. Granted, I did not think she moved very much without the ball. But seems like a lack of trust from others.

I don't get to more than a handful of games each year.
But I thought she would build into type of offensive player that opponents had on gameplan.

Is her defense that bad? Does she not get the schemes?
Not around enough to have an opinion. Just surprised with what I heard in HS and what I have seen (be in mostly in warmups...)

I only watched the second half on ESPN+. Not much to see against a weak opponent. Jayla seemed totally disinterested. Whalen is a step up from the other transfers. She works hard and can shoot. Our bigs look stronger, except on point blank shots. I thought our offensive flow was very good, as we actually ran some plays, unlike most of last year. Hard to judge much from that game.

I think Jayla was deferring last night because of the inferior opponent - I sure hope it wasn't disinterest. As for Skeens, I don;t see her as a player who can create her own shot - yes she had gaudy numbers at Chillicothe but that was not high level D1 High School basketball. Defensively there are still limitations yes. I'd say expect about 5 ppg from her. And regarding the cheering issue, I didn't believe it was forced at all - I think they are close nit. Example, Whitehead went down battling for the ball and three teammates went over to help her out. Christine Szabo brought up a good point during my halftime interview with her last night - there are a lot of introverts on this team so it may look as they are forcing the cheering while they need to grown into it. As for Christine, it's natural cheering from her. Feel free to agree or disagree!

By a disinterested Jayla I meant disinterested in the poor opponent, not a comment on her attitude. She is our best by far and my fave since her first game.

I think Skeens just didn't get much playing time last year. I think she is a step slower, but has some quickness to her and I think she can create her own shot. It is confidence at this point.

She is a good rebounder and I think her defense is not horrible. She will get better with more time on the floor.

I like her and think she will get better.

As for Jayla, she just didn't look like she was into it very much. Don't know if it was their player shadowing her or if she just didn't seem to get into the flow. The player who was guarding her was a transfer from Butler, so it might have been her defense?

Go Flyers!
