Hopefully we can finally put that pipe dream to bed.

There was something slightly embarrassing about obsessing over a player who did not have an offer from UD and had never shown any interest in UD -- to the point he got his own (multiple) threads separate from the recruiting threads.

Lot of bitter OSU fans, as he was supposed to lead their revival, which is back to survival.

Oh yeah? This is the one guy that OSU fans thought was supposed to lead their "revival"? With amazing talent like that, I'm surprised he settled for Notre Dame. You must read a lot of Ohio State blogs and talk to a lot of Buckeyes fans to come up with that fantastic hot take.
In reality, if anyone is going to play a major part in Ohio State's revival, it's going to be their two four-star recruits from the Class of 2017. You know, the ones who are actually going to see time on the court this upcoming season. There is still plenty of time to fill out of the 2018 recruiting class and Holtmann has barely been in Columbus for a month. Your celebration is premature.

His dad played at UD with our coach! Any time there is a local kid or son of a former player that is good enough to play at UD, there will ALWAYS be interest from the fans regardless of whether or not the recruit is likely to come.
Not sure why you find this "slightly embarrassing". I imagine it is the same at 99.9% of schools.

Sure, in the normal recruiting threads with all other recruiting chatter -- but multiple threads dedicated to a kid we didn't offer and never showed an ounce of interest....

People keep saying we didn't offer him and showed no interest in him. Maybe that was because he committed to Ohio State during his freshman year of high school. When a guy has verballed to a school like OSU (P5) that early, there wouldn't be much use in going after him. I would think that was Archie's reasoning. When he reopened his recruiting and Anthony Grant is now our coach, that is an entirely different situation.

You aren't going to offer someone who when you first inquire says not interested, then commits elsewhere as a freshman. And when they reopen commitment as a senior says still not interested.

Yeah, I know so many Notre Who fans who also like UD. Not sure of your age, but in the 70s snd 80s, when Damon played, You could buy Notre Who shirts on UD campus. Still have mine, no longer fits.

From what I heard, UD attempted to pitch Dane after he de-committed from Ohio State. They made a hard run at him.
The interest in the recruit is twofold. 1. He is very talented. Anthony would have been thrilled to have him play at UD. 2. The connection between his father and UD.
Imagine what types of teams UD could have had if UD could have done two things:
1. landed the top local talent in Southwest Ohio
2. landed the top talented sons from legacy players (There are only 3 in my recent memory however)

Just thinking about John Paxson, Adam Waleskowski, Dane Goodwin, some others. Stuff happens. It's not the end of the world.
A lot goes into the decision, not the least of which is avoiding dad's shadow for some kids.

I'd imagine the chance to play in the top conference in the country (and ND is a pretty good program) also played a factor

Until we are in the Big East (or equivalent), we will lose players to a better conference. Of course Gonzaga is an exception. Get back to me when UD has these results:

What's doubly impressive is they do it in Spokane . Sure trashes a lot of criticism about some recruits shying away from the city of Dayton as a destination.

Ok folks, we lost one recruit in the "game of thrones". I mean "game of recruiting". But as the TV show points out over and over again, you gotta be flexible and bounce back. Let's focus on making U of D the best experience for our students and our student athletes, as possible. Make this kid and other kids regret their decision not to go to U of D. As fans, we can best do this by living up to our reputation as college's best fans.
I know. I know. Some of you, on this blog, think that you are more important than just a fan. But, no matter what your ties are, unless you are in U of D administration or some such; you still just boil down to being a fan. There is nothing wrong with just being a fan. The "fan" should be saluted and held in high regard. In my opinion, if you want to become more important than just a fan then there is only one way. Become a donor to the school to help make the school a bigger and better place for the students and student athletes.

I am not saying that you should become a donor so that U of D can become bigger and be the next Notre Dame. Become a donor and let's make U of D better than Notre Who? Actually, we already are better in many ways that really count.

I just heard the complaints from all you rich people. You've already made up your mind that you are leaving everything to your unwashed and undeserving children or your even more unwashed and underserving grand children. Please consider parceling a little to U of D, your favorite school. Let's raise the alumni donor profile as compared to other schools.

Geez. Responding to your own posts, lecturing us, scolding us, trashing our children and grandchildren. I hope you haven't been drinking this early in the morning.
