First, thanks Glen for all of your updates, makes this thread worthwhile.
On to the weekend:
Friday:
Maine (+12) @ UMass
James Madison (+3) @ Fordham
SMU (+4.5) @ Georgia
Saturday:
VCU @ Wichita St
Harvard @ GW
Farleigh Dickinson @ LaSalle
St Bona @ Middle Tenn St
#1 Kansas @ #18 Nova
Montana @ Omaha
Drake @ Air Force
Western Kentucky @ Rhode Island
Austin Peay @ Duquesne (or wherever Duquesne is happening to play this week)
#17 Butler @ Purdue
UCLA @ UNC (just cause)
VMI @ VTech
Maryland-BC @ Mason
#5 Ohio St @ #6 Kentucky
North Florida @ Syracuse
#20 San Diego St @ Utah
Kansas St @ St Louis
#16 Zona @ St Johns
St Mary's @ Nevada
Sunday:
UAB vs Duquesne
South Carolina @ #9 Virginia
Davidson @ Loyola - Chitown
Radford @ Richmond
With Maryland and UK haveing already gone down this week, a victory in Chicago could see the Flyers waking up Christmas morning with a single digit ahead of their name (though it would require a few upsets as well this weekend, realistically I think)
Lots of chances for the a-10 to add to what has been accomplished as well.

SMU vs. Georgia is big game for us on a slow basketball night. It would be Georgia's biggest win if they can get it.

Exhausted watching Georgia win in double OT giving SMU its second loss of the season. Good for Georgia.

I watched it and they are terrible. I too was amazed they won. They gave up 26 offensive rebounds! SMU too 87 shots! By way of comparison we took 62 vs Kansas.

Too bad they don’t have a player that can score it like John Crosby...they would’ve won going away!

VCU Wichita is an interesting game. Last chance for the Rams to get a good win before A10 play
St. Louis Kansas State is at the Sprint Center in K.C. today as well
Getting down to crunch time for the league to get a few more good OOC wins

Nice to see UMass get back on the right side of the ledger (against what was probably a bad Maine team).

In the last minute or so with Kansas up 4 - Dotson has his pocket picked for a Nova layup, Dotson misses the front of a 1-1, Dotson misses a driving layup for the game winner at the buzzer. Sometimes you are on vs Dayton and sometimes you are off vs Nova.

He or someone almost had their pocket picked again with about 8 seconds left. Then to my surprise, they put Azubuike in. Surprised because why the heck wasn't he in there the first time? Anyway, that team needs to look for him more than they do. Every time down the floor when he's in the game, yet they don't.

Pretty bad losses for Duquesne and Richmond, definitely very damaging IMO to their resumes.
UAB was Kenpom #147, Radford Kenpom #125.

UCLA and Mick Cronin:
https://www.cbssports.com/college-ba...ful-situation/:
...on full display once again when UCLA fell 77-74 to Cal State Fullerton inside Pauley Pavilion on Saturday.
Before I go any further, let me make one thing clear: UCLA should never lose to Cal State Fullerton under any circumstances -- especially as a 15-point favorite like UCLA was in this game, and especially when Cal State Fullerton is ranked 284th at KenPom. There's no way to spin this positive; that was an awful loss. In fact, before Saturday, UCLA had never lost to a school that finished lower than 210th in the KenPom era that now spans 19 seasons. So this wasn't just an awful loss. This was a historically bad loss for UCLA.
But it's also a historically bad roster for UCLA.
As evidence, consider this: UCLA's current roster is the first UCLA roster devoid of at least one McDonald's All-American since the award was unveiled in 1977 -- which means Mick Cronin will be the first UCLA coach in more than four decades to complete a season without at least one McDonald's All-American.

I seem to remember that UC was being kind of cheap with him. Similar to Mack at X. Both were looking for the hometown discount.

I remember hearing that on WLW, too, that UC was more interested in promoting the football program than the basketball program, so they expected Cronin to go along with the hometown discount.

George Mason must be the worst 11-1 team in the country. Down 25 at TCU.

Rough night for the a10. Mason getting hammered- (little like Duquesne, played a cupcake non conference and had a good record).
Umass goes down to the Xerious Zips- he still stunk it up though.
Bonas go down at Buffalo- not our Buffalos.
Davidson loses to a weak Vandy.
Fordham beats Coppin- almost everyone beats Coppin.

A bit surprised at the A10’s poor performance tonight. Would have liked to enter the conference games with better efforts but it is what it is. We need to clean up in conference.

Former assistant Donnie Jones picked up his best win so far in his 1st season with Stetson. They won at South Carolina today. Stetson had lost their previous 4 games to VMI (by 27), Longwood, FIU, and UNC-Asheville. They were 21.5pt underdogs today and won by 7.

Buckeyes fall again
Watch the buck nuts drop like a rock in next. Weeks poll. Good example how the media ranks early on the basis of perception because they must be that good. I guess a few teams have discovered they aren’t as good as the polls think they are. Good warning to the Flyers.

I watched a few early buckeye games, they looked **** good. There's just a lot of parity this year.
Colorado beat us on a neutral court, but play the game 10 times I think we win at least 6.

Here is a real test of the rankings Big 5 perception vote for the Top25. OSU with two not good losses to MN and WI, and we lose two overtimes to Top25 teams. Of course they have three Top10 wins, and three total losses. Bet they will be ahead of us in the poll by several spots.

I believe you are a Flyer fan but enjoy p!ssing in the Kool-Aid and then stirring it. To each his own. While your statement unto itself is accurate, in the context of college basketball and NCAAT seeding it is not solely relevant. The Colorado loss does show up as a single Q1 loss but the contribution to the analytics used in evaluating teams lives on beyond that game. In some ways, those analytics are used to evaluate teams if they did play 10 times.
Go on doing what you enjoy and I will do what I enjoy.

It is a little of a 2 headed coin. The P5 teams will also have more opportunities to lose games and may be unfairly penalized for losing to a good team, particularly on the road. It is really hard to pick a top 25 - at this point, this season. I went through the top 25 looking for the teams that have an out of whack ranking. It is really hard. The old good win vs bad loss. Most voters in the AP and probably coaches polls don't look that closely at it and probably half shouldn't be voting. I have not been a real fan of using analytics to evaluate teams but W/L comparisons are very subjective. Bubble talk later in the season and on Selection Sunday is going to be real interesting this year.

Note, I'm only talking about top 25 rankings.
Let's see what happens to Oregon, WVU/Kansas. Iowa/Penn St, Mich/Mich St in the polls. All the XX/XX play each other this weekend.
My point is, the Flyers just need to keep winning against some bad teams in the A10. The above play some good teams and one of them is going to have to lose.

Georgia at Memphis 37-37 at the half. A Georgia win would be doubly good. 1) Boost Georgia and thus make Flyers win look better. 2) Knock Memphis out of that #9 ranking where they do not belong.

I understand your point, but I also agree with Radar’s point about power program favoritism. I can recall the arguments over the years, when The Committee would select a team like Georgetown with an 18-12 record (and 8-8 in the BE). When asked about the Hoyas’ credentials, the answer was “Look who they played! Syracuse! UConn! Villanova!” The rebuttal? “OK, then, who did Syracuse play?” The answer? “They played UConn! Villanova!...” In short, conference affiliation meant more than an individual team’s record. And, to some degree, and in the minds of some pundits, it still does today.

I repeat - I'm only talking about top 25 rankings.
I will add at this point in the season. Too much preseason bias affect the rankings - especially in favor of P5. I agree otherwise.

I repeat: “I understand your point...” Do you understand mine?
Let’s see the polls on Monday, and how much love they show to #26 Colorado for beating #4 Oregon. And, let’s see how far #4 Oregon drops as a result of that loss. If Colorado leapfrogs all the way into the Top 20, and Oregon only drops 1 or 2 spots in the polls, then that lends credibility to the argument that P5 teams as a whole gain strength by feasting on each other.

I'll agree that the pollsters usually pre-evaluate teams higher than they should be and then drop them slower than they should. However I have no problem when OSU reached #1 because polls should be a snapshot of where teams are that week, unlike advanced analytics which project how good a team is going to be after all is said and done. At that moment OSU had played the best in the country. Now not so much so they should drop accordingly.

I am really torn on the polls. I think there is an overreaction to what just happened. That and there is little or no real knowledge of how teams are playing. All you have to do is look at UD. If that one shot had been off just a bit we would be somewhere in the top 10. Instead there are at least 10 additional teams that are thought to be better than us. Go figure.

Pretty simple really...a P5 school will drop less than a UD type school with a good loss and the same P5 school will move up more than a UD type school with a great win. All things being equal there not equal!

Look no further than Villanova. Currently ranked 10 (will probably drop after loss to Marquette) with the only significant win being by 1 pt over Kansas.

GT hands NC its worst halftime deficit? in Dean Dome history being up 20.
This might be the year Clemson breaks its 0-59 losing streak at NC next Sat.
7-7 GT wins 96-83.

St. Marys screwed on the no call that was clearly goal tending, heading to a 4th overtime!
Is goal tending not reviewable?

That's not good, St. Mary's goes down in 4OTs. Looked like they ran out of steam

This would’ve been a good road win for SMC, but it is not a bad loss. UOP is a good team
