If we can keep Clarke under 20 and Smith under 15 and shoot over 45% we will win this one.

If my aunt had testicles she would be my uncle.
We are going to have to play our best to win this one today whether it is by 3 or 20.
Keys to the game:
- hold Butler to under 40% FG
- out rebound them by 8+
- shoot more FT's than they attempt
Do this and I like our chances.

So sad if this ends up being serious, considering it would never have happened if our players were actually strong with the ball.

6 for 18 shooting is ruining us right now. Great job on the boards and decent defense. I wish Dillard would stop slowing the ball down in the half court. We play best when we push the ball quickly to the basket.

If he didn't push low I dint have any problem with the foul. You don't go up to deny a layup when the guy is in the ground.

That playing for the last shot when you are down big is a joke. Play your normal game and score. We almost turn it over.

Playing for the last shot there is right. Rather go in down single digits, hopefully 6 or 7. Not 11 or 12.
Problem is UD plays dumb and soft.

The Flyers have no sense of discipline with handling the basketball or shot selection. We force passes; we force penetration; and we force shots with 20 seconds left on the shot clock...and these are experienced players making these poor decisions.

Yet another inept defensive showing. Giving up 59% from the field and 50% from trey
Nothing this season chamges until Archie can demonstrate an ability to coach up defense
Right defense in this program is strictly ornamental.

Yep, not much else to it. I don't think Butler has had a significant tactical or talent advantage against us, they are just lightyears ahead of where we need to be in terms of both mental and physical toughness. Perfect example, their best player goes down and they immediately extend the lead while we're the team that looks shaken.

Butler attacks the defense and puts you on your heels. UD backs up and runs offense from the A and Y. UD loses guys like Dunham on the three point line. They are toast.

Sanford dribbles into trap on sideline. Gets bailed out by foul.
UD defenders hit the deck under slightest contact. Create wide open layup. Grow some hangy down things. It's like watching the women play the Butler mens team, but that might insult the womens team.

I also thought the missed dunk was very odd.

Oliver takes three with 30 on shot clock. Gets steal and tries to dribble through three guys. Dumb and soft.

Normally Oliver's mistakes and poor shooting are out weighed by all the things he does so well. Not today...

At least Archie put Sanfords butt on the bench when Dillard came back in.

Down by 6 with plenty of time left. Let's see what this team is made of. Already dropped every close game this year and this would be the 3rd home loss of the season already. Must win this game...

You would think after Rotney gets put out of the game they would call every one that happens from that point on, but not for UD

I think if Butler just fouls Oliver for the rest of the game they'll be fine.

Matt in for Oliver. At least Archie admits his mistakes and corrects them. BG would never change his strategy.

Gotta give Butler credit. These guys are tough year in and year out and nothing seems to phase them. They just win. The outcome of this game was never seriously in doubt, and I think today we saw the difference between the Butler basketball program and the UD basketball program.
Still, you have to win this game on your home floor...

We took 20 more shots and lose by six. What is wrong with that picture?
We lose by six free throws.

Nothing will change until Archie gets guys to play defense and play strong.
Once un a while teams just shoot lights out, but UD seldom defends well. They leave the wring guys open, give up penetration down the middle and allo the ball to get in the lane off the bounce or on a pass. You can't play defense like that. Butler ran their offense inside the three point line.
They have played the two best teams in the league. So MAYBE they will look better as the competition lightens up. But the way they defend there is a pretty high likelihood they start off 0-3 because LaSalle can score. Play bad defense and you might need 90 plus to win.

In my opinion Pierre, Price and Robinson were our best today. We need our vets to step up. Vee did step up for a stretch, but Benson, Dillard, and Oliver didnt really do much. Benson and Oliver did more bad than good IMO. Scott played fairly well as well today. Not a good sign when your team is being led by 3-4 Freshmen.

Oliver was 1-8 early in the game.
Vee was hardly better, maybe 2 for 10 at one point, until he must rang a few in a row up.
This sucks, when we hung by 6 points to another quality Butler squad. Didn't see game, but know Butler basketball. They know their roles, play within themselves and move the ball and constantly move themselves around on offense.
Tough brand of basketball. We are way too undisciplined and prob had better shot with VCU, to be honest.

We sure are hard on Dillard. His stat line and performance was pretty decent. Of course he left his cape at home, so it was not what we expect.

So we lost to the best two teams in the conference (arguably). The way I see it, we can still finish at number three, which means about 21-9.
So we're now at 10-6 - I predict ("...according to my careful prosthesis...") 24-6.
We played the two best teams in the conference fairly strong. Big flaws, but we were within 10 late in both games. A few breaks go our way and those were both games we could have stolen. (Oliver will not go 2-12 every game.)
I don't think anybody on this board realistically thought we were a top 20 team, but I think we can still win out from here on. We learned a lot in the last two games.
If (sorry Rollo, I know what "if" does to you) we stay healthy, I wouldn't be surprised to see a solid win streak and still land a spot in the Big Dance.

BG's teams played defense - if you can remember back that far.

What's with a jab at 2011's coach in a 2013 game thread? He's long gone, let it rest.
The posters still obsessing over Brian Gregory will be the first to start the "Archie Must Go' threads.
And it's not 'dude', it's ' The Dude. . . You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino .'

IMO 3 assists in 28 minutes (along with 5-11 shooting and 3 TOs) is not "pretty decent" for your starting point guard

Averaging 2 assists and 5 turnovers in conference play. On the season barely above 1 to 1. That's putrid for a 5th year senior point guard expected to be first or second team all conference.

Haven't checked of late, but last year Dillard had about 6 assists a game nad several 9 and 10 assist games.
This year i believe he's around 4 assists a game. Maybe lower now.
Perhaps the Summer League them messed up his game. He got some kudos and respect in some writeups post Summer League. However that perhaps NBA'ized his game too much.
K Dill needs to be in the 5-8 assist region during the year to be effective. It will open up his shots/drives more. He needs to reestablish that effective passing he has produced before.
As others have said though, when DMO, Benson and others are the recipients and not hitting.... what's a PG to do?
