Rhode Island Game Thread
Hopefully we use that game & effort yesterday as motivation as we head back on the road to Kingston, RI. The Rams have been up and down this year under David Cox, 12-10 and 5-5 in the A10.
Game is on Saturday Afternoon at 4 PM and will be shown on the CBS Sports Network.
Starting Lineup:
G 1 Fatts Russell 5’10” 165 SO Philadelphia, PA
G 11 Jeff Dowtin 6’3” 180 JR Upper Marlboro, MD
G 4 Tyrese Martin 6’6” 195 FR Allentown, PA
F 0 Jermaine Harris 6’8” 220 FR Upper Marlboro, MD
F 10 Cyril Langevine 6’8” 225 JR East Orange, NJ
Dowtin leads Rhody at 16 PPG and 3.8 APG... Langevine will probably win A10 Most Improved, the dude is an absolute load, so hopefully Josh and Obi are ready to go (14.0 PPG 9.9 RPG)... Fatts is extremely streaky.
One thing to keep an eye on... URI is quite possibly the worst 3PT shooting team in America (26.3%), which is surreal.
Rebound the ball boys!!! They play like SLU, hopefully the guys are ready for another fight again.
Get the job done before we head home for some revenge against VCU a Week later... You have an entire week off, leave it all on the floor! Go UD!

They shoot everything poorly on average, 43/26/67. But in a typical SLU slowdown game, they beat SLU by 9. Langevine really hits the offensive glass hard. Have we learned anything? We will need a total team effort to block out, rebound and run.

Perhaps the best first half of the season so far. 41-27.
Phantom foul on Cohill. Particularly since they let them play most of half.

This game is so far from over it's ridiculous. They should have had this team down by 20 at the half the way they shot the ball and the way Rhode island shot the ball.

Either the CBS graphic was wrong or Rhody got to head to the line with 0.7 sec left on Dayton’s SIXTH foul of the half. When Crutcher went to the line Rhody had committed its 7th. Dayton was showing with 5. Then the Cohill foul was the next and final whistle of the half. What gives? That’s 2 points that should be wiped off.

I'd like to see Jalen go to the rack at the end of half rather than chuck up that shot. Phantom foul for sure but if Jalen attacked the rim it would be a mute point.

I thought the same thing. If so you would think somebody on Dayton would have their head in the game and pick up on that.

Harris initiates contact, throws a left forearm in front of the ref, and it’s a foul on us.

We’re up 17 and this hack of an announcer says we’re allowing them to hang around.
If anything, it’s the refs that are letting Rhody hang around.

I'd like to see a strong five minute finish and some PT for Young Frankie

Could it be said that the Flyers played really disciplined and tough on both ends?

This is the best I’ve seen the defensive effort for a full 40 possibly all season. Always helps to hit those 3’s too.

Crazy what playing good D and rebounding can do! Proud of the Flyers. Nice 3 by Greer!

Love this beatdown, but they will be out for blood on March 1.
So much for KenPom's prediction.

If they can keep playing like that I will have to stop calling them mediocre. Great performance by the entire team today.

URI lost a lot of talent from last year. Some of their fans have unrealistic expectations (every hear that before?).

When you hit your open shots things are easy. When you can't things are tough, neither are the coaches fault unless you throw recruiting into the equation.
Our conference losses included a ton of missed wide open threes.

UPDATE:
Just checked the PbP live stats. Obi picked up team #6 (and his 2nd, I believe; he is really doing an excellent job in the last 10 games or so of not committing bad fouls) with 0:48 left in the half. So Cohill's foul was indeed #7.

I caught the last four minutes, was out of pocket all day. Could not believe my eyes. Did we look this good all game? Or URI looked just bad?
