Summer Competition

Incoming freshman Christine Borchers competed in the shot at the NON (Nike Outdoor Nationals) this past weekend. This meet is for the top high school track and field athletes in the country. She finished 14th at 40' 4 3/4".

Sophomore-to-be Courtney Siebenaller has qualified in the pole vault for the US Junior Nationals in Eugene this coming weekend. Still waiting to see if she declares.

Follow-up- Siebenaller has now declared. Should be competing Friday afternoon.

Former Flyers Tara and Kara Storage are qualified for the 10K at the US Senior National Championships this coming weekend in Eugene. Looks like their Olympic Trials qualifying times from last year are still valid. Also waiting to see if they declare.

Followup - They have now declared. Their race is scheduled for Thursday night. ESPN is broadcasting that night - so they might cover the race.

I think incoming freshman Katie Nageotte would have qualified for both the NON and Junior Nationals in the pole vault but did not see her either place.

Both the Junior Nationals and the Senior Nationals are at Hayward Field in Eugene Oregon (6/25/09 - 6/28/09) - without a doubt the most famous and historic track venue in the country.

Question- How does one ship poles for the vault from Dayton to Oregon?

10K results

Kara finishes 13th in 33:37
Tara finishes 16th in 33:39

Pretty good times - these are about 20 seconds off their PR's.

Tough meet for Siebenaller as she has a NH(no height). The opening height was 12' 5 1/2", but Courtney was unable to clear it. She also had a no height at the NCAA's a few weeks ago. Winner went 13' 11". Disappointed I am sure, but getting to compete at Hayward field had to have been pretty sweet.

TFFan is an unknown quantity at this point
Borchers will have to earn a place in the shot put event. Four Flyers currently throw farther than she does and, under Davis, they will continue to improve as she no doubt will. She may find a spot in some of the non-high school events like weight and hammer, although success in shot and discus have not always translated into success in those events. Where she will be most welcome will be in the Outdoor season in the discus. With the loss of Overmeyer (transferred to Kent State), the team will need a strong and consistent discus thrower. Also, when giving credit for turning the team around, let's not forget Kandice Erwin. This team never would have placed 2nd in the Indoor AND Outdoor A-10s this year without her outstanding recruits. Steinwachs has definitely done an excellent job at taking the hand-off and runnning with it but Erwin started the race. It would be nice if he were to acknowledge that every once in a while.
