Bilas Top 68
Flyers in at 28.
28. Dayton Flyers
Nobody The Bilastrator has seen all season does a better job of moving the ball than Dayton. The Flyers have four different guys who can deck it and get to the rim, and coach Archie Miller has really good versatility and flexibility in his rotation. Dayton is tough and does not back down. The Flyers do have a tendency to play defense with their hands, which could be an issue if the officials call the game by the rule book.

A bit disappointing after all of the love last week. How does he put us 25 spots behind Syracuse?

I am more interested in knowing how he compares us to Baylor and Gonzaga.

I think many will wonder whether we just got on a good roll and we are not going to hang in the long haul. Small bites. The fact that we moved up from nowhere in the polls to a club that is relevant in one week is amazing. We can now start to string wins together and take advantage in the polls of teams that are stumbling and move up the ladder.

Our record as a ranked team does leave something to be desired.

I don't give that a whole lot of consideration to that record considering that none of the current coaches or players were around back then

Well, I differ with that. We are talking about the polls, and the voters perception of the Flyers as a top 25 team, or an NCAA Tournament team. Our record in both has been pitiful.
Voters have been stung too many times by our underachieving after we get ranked, or after we get seeded.
Where those facts come into play is in the polls when we incur a loss and immediately drop out of the top 25 because of our history. Voters remember. It doesn't make any difference to them that we have changed players and coaches.
Look at X losing 3 in a row and some voters don't even know it---still throwing X top 25 votes.
We definitely need to work harder to overcome a lousy track record in those areas.

Well the AP didn't seem to have any problem bringing us from nowhere to #25. And one idiot voted X #25, everyone else was not ranking them. Don't think the voters have long memories. They vote in the moment. Win and it doesn't matter what we did years ago.

Jay Bilas single-handedly championed our move to 25. We provided him plenty of good ammunition.
You just made my point about X. The X rep over the years got one idiot, fully unencumbered with knowledge, to vote for them. Never on this green earth would we get even one idiot to vote for us if we lost 3 in a row. We can't erase history, but we can supersede it over time. Butler did it in a fairly short amount of time.
