Golden SWISH Award - Detroit

Well, I guess My Team can shoot the ball...at least occasionally.

Last night was a whoopin' and an enjoyable win. Lot's of playing time for our bench and lots of stats for everyone.

But whose stats were the most Golden? That's the First World problem that we need to solve before Saturday's game at Auburn.

Go Flyers! My Team!!

King Rollo theEncouraged...OUT!

I went with Obi. Not only was he always in the right place to catch those oops, but many times when he got the ball not in oop position, he was looking to pass it right away. He's not a back to the basket big, and he knows that. Very unselfish game by a guy who led the tea in points! He is a special player

I went with obi. Dude is everything we thought kostas would be, plus muscle and a good attitude.

I'm going with JDavis...he did a little of everything, which is what this team needs. Toppin's 8 dunks sure made this a tough call, though.

But the real question involves the officiating! Were there any complaints about them??? I'm guessing 'no'...30 point wins typically means the refs were fair.

Obi was the best player on in the floor last night, with due credit to guys who got him the ball in good spots. I found myself savoring the irony that Obi looks much more like a “Greek Freak 2.0” than Kostas ever did.

Had to recognize Frankie. He was pleasantly transparent and contributed nicely under circumstances.

But Obi---wow.

Went with Obi, but could have easily gone with Davis. Davis played great D all night and made shots. Crutch had a couple turnovers on bad/lazy passes that took a little away from an otherwise great game.

Meh.

That was a rec team. Read up on how they were recruited & put together. Nice to see Frankie get minutes. Good news....noone was hurt. Not much else gained from this one.

I'm with San Diego and voted FRANKIE. He played smart and within himself. Given that everyone else did what they are capable of and expected to do; so it was tough deciding between those gaudy numbers.

One very big time complaint!

Second half- Obi got absolutely hammered on an attempted dunk - knocked him to the floor. So hard that a flagrant 1 review would not have been unwarranted. AG was incensed - as he should have been. As the ref goes by Grant he T's him up. Grant goes ballistic. Assistants hold him back for nearly a minute.

My complaint - and this happens far too often. The ref obviously blew the original call. So why do refs compound their mistake by hitting the bench with a T when everyone in the house knows they already screwed up once. This is when "referee discretion" says give the coach a bit of latitude because I know I missed the call. I can accept missing the call, but the ref needs to leave the T in his pocket in this situation.

A good ref would wait for the next timeout and quietly go over to AG and say - There was contact. Call could have been made, but I left it go. Simple enough and everyone would understand.

as a freshman, Obi averages 22 minutes a game... just over a half.... a half plus change... during this time, he is averaging over 12 points a game.. for players who have attempted 10 free throws or more, he is the leading free thro0w shooter on the team at 80 percent...

just how high is this young man's ceiling? my goodness, what are we watching develop in front of us... I went with Obi... I wrote a week or so ago, a future star of the Atlantic 10, and I meant in capital letters... go Flyers, now might be a good time to catch Auburn... good team win, but went with Obi

Yeah, CAG had to actually be restrained by his assistants, he was so PO'd. Maddest I've ever seen the guy. I sit across the Arena and at the other end, so I don't know who said what when, but the dude in the striped shirt definitely did not handle the situation well. And once game action resumed, you could see CAG burning a hole straight through that ref with the "laser eyes" he had going on at that point.

On the flip side, I love having a coach who sticks-up for his players, and doesn't want to see anyone get hurt in a situation like that. I'm guessing CAG might have been beating himself up afterward for reacting that emotionally, but d@mmit - you can't have guys getting hurt as a result of cheap shots.

Also, on the Detroit side, I saw Mike Davis give a stern dressing-down to one of his guys after a particularly hard foul that the player had committed, so both coaches were trying to prevent anyone from getting hurt. Good to see. Keeps the game in perspective. Play hard, but play clean and play fair.

In the box score they had Crutcher with 3 turnovers when I reviewed the game today I counted 5 in the second half alone I wonder if stats are being fudged?

turnovers are always debatable, was it on the passer or on the receiver for bad hands or not looking for the pass? one has to look again and again on each particular instance to see who really was at fault...

but stats like minutes played, average, free throw pct.... a different story right there, altogether now..)

Grant could stare down a tornado. When that dude is ****ed, his eyes are classified as lethal weapons.

Cunningham and Toppin had great games, but I went with Davis. Not only did he give us some decent shooting, his passing and composure were top notch. The deciding factor in my vote was Jordan's defense on his distant cousin. That poor kid will be seeing Jordan in his nightmares. I counted one decent open shot against Jordan all night.

I voted for Obi Toppin! School record 12 dunks in a game! 8 by Toppin! Everyone played well. Jordan Davis had Antoine Davis bottled up the whole game!

Obi had a great game and will win this poll...

But Davis worked out of his funk and played great D.

The TEAM won this game, not just one player...but Davis needs to play like he did last night in order to fully contribute moving forward.

I was PO’d that the ref wouldn’t let it go and tried to goat AG into another Techical foul so he could boot him. He blew the call and would not man up. Ref’s make mistakes but he compounded it.

There was another no call when A UD player was jerked sides ways and ended up on the floor.

CAG has more technicals in the first half of this season than I think AM had his entire time here. I like it.

I like the fire that CAG brings. Warranted or not, a certain level of p!sstivity from a coach carries over to the players.

Hell yes...Was up 20 plus , too, when he got the T. Sent a huge message to the team that AG ain't going to quit coaching at any time during a game and you better not quit playing.
