True, but I had a couple of sources (rollo being the first one) confirm what I posted. I did not take this as a rumor after this. Others are chiming in saying they have heard the same thing. I waited and waited before I put the post up as I was hoping the DDN or WHIO would have the story out by now.

According to my AD informant the suspension from school is official, it just hasn't been announced. This person wants to meet with me tonite to tell me more and avoid putting anything in writing...but I work until >9:00 pm so that may not happen.

Saturday was a disaster trying to play our two big guys against a true big man. Now it will be really bad.

If it's true, we need to get them on the next bus to Columbus and move on. Now we may be short one player for next year. Hopefully, Archie who saw this coming at some point, can find a big guy. I have no sympathy for those two. I feel badly for Archie and especially his teammates, who only go around once. What a bad deal for Sibert.

Good point, that didn't occur to me, if true, another 2015 scholarship may have just opened up.

I guess all the drama, regarding UD being oversigned by 1 for next year, may have just disappeared.

This is probably the wrong day to open up this can of worms, but I have no problem going after kids that have a history of issues, as long as it is very selective. You can't have a team full of them, but one guy can work out if surrounded by good teammates and good coaches. Some coaches can turn these guys around and make a big difference in their lives. I don't think we should deny a guy that because of how he acted while in high school, potentially surrounded by bad influences. But once here, they should absolutely be held to the same standard as everybody else and held accountable for their actions.

It has nothing to do, imo, about doing what you suggested and EVERYTHING to do with how the transgressions are handled along the way..Both, albeit, Scott with plenty more, have had multiple transgressions already..As mentioned, the rope given to one or both was waaaaaaaaay too much.

Why? So he can continue to overlook things his players are doing and give them 4th and 5th chances to get their crap together?

Archie needs to crack down, regardless of whom it is, on anyone that steps out of line.

He put up with antics from upper classmen a few years ago, that the then freshmen saw and knew he would be a pushover for. Sadly, they kept pushing the window and here we are today with the news they are gone.

Hoping our underclassmen now have not strayed down the wrong path thanks to the upper classmen "leaders" they may have followed.

Robinson and Scott were quick recruiting when Archie got here. He has a roster depleted of size. None of those three bigs he signed in the first 6 months (Gavs, Scott, Robinson) worked out for different reasons.

He doesn't seem to have repeated the mistake. I feel bad for the guys on the team that have done things the right way.

Dayton has dismissed starting center Devon Scott and backup big man Jalen Robinson from the team.


Robinson and Scott were involved in a trespassing incident in the dorms in which they allegedly stole money, sources said.

Scott was averaging 9.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Robinson was averaging 3.2 points and 2.4 rebounds.

The Flyers are 7-2 entering Saturday's contest against Boston University.

The departures leaves Dayton without any player over 6-foot-6.

Like so many others, Archie has refused to effectively handle any and all behavioral problems with his team...and it has me concerned more NOW than ever. He's here for the short term and is holding back nothing to win-win-win...and when he does we'll be left to clean up our program and reputation.

Gregory has his issues with coaching, but his kids mostly behaved. Archie seems to have the coaching thing down, but has NO idea how to lead off the court.

Maybe Archie can learn from this as well. He certainly made some coaching changes midstream.

Deciding where to draw the line it never easy. Trying to balance what is best for the individual when deciding how to discipline is a tough call. I can tell you because I have two daughters, both great kids but one was adopted by us when she was 14 and had spent 3 long years in foster care. Deciding how to handle situations with her was completely different than my older daughter. When you care about people you don't cut and run the first time they mess up. In retrospect did Jalen and Devon get too many chances? Yes and they messed up and now are gone for good. Hopefully they use this as impetus to rearrange their life and that everyone involved learns something from the situation so that past mistakes don't become future ones.

If he refused to "handle" it, then this too would've been swept under the rug. I mean, lately we have seen that it's not so hard to sweep alleged rapes and major drug charges under the rug at other schools.

Is he late to the ballgame of "handling it" in this case? Yes. There is something to be said for second chances, though. If Archie has a tendency toward believing in his players' capability to change, I don't see a lot wrong with that. I refuse to automatically chalk this up to wanting to win at all costs. Could it be that? Yes. Maybe I am more optimistic than some as far as how this program is run.

In any case, Archie was duped just as much as some of us were, and I imagine he is probably more angry than any of you in here are about it.

It will be very interesting to see where the season goes from here.

I might be in the minority but I don't freaking care.

I want to win! If that means no longer being a squeaky clean program so be it... Every student athlete deserves a chance or two depending on the situation.

Don't get me wrong, I love BG but you would love to go back and be .500 every year in conference and get nothing done after that, come on.

Now do I think Archie handled the Northland duo situation wrong in the 1st place... Maybe.

Archie is the man and is still learning on the fly on how to lead a national basketball program. He probably learned from this as well.

Hopefully this will serve as a lesson to everybody else on the team this year and in the future, and hopefully things like this won't happen again.

Guess they should have sent out the Champion and Scholars end of year solicitation out a week or so ago.

I am glad someone finally balled up and dealt with the problem that has been going on since their freshman year. The bad part is that it leaves the team high and dry. Had it been dealt with, recruiting could have been altered and it wouldn't have just equated to one of the most embarrassing moments as a Flyer fan. Scott would have been gone a long time ago and Robinson would have been dismissed this past summer...at a minimum....they would have been gone earlier had they not been given about 17 chances.

I am all for taking chances on kids...and fixing them when they screw up...I am for calculated second chances...I am not for taking multiple chances when people commit acts that are of poor character and morals...not just maybe getting busted drinking...skipping class...etc...maybe a big screw up like an OVI...but you aren't going to fix issues of poor character and morals...stealing fits that category to a T...

I would really like to know where Archie stood in all of this. Was he dragged kicking and screaming to this decision or was he forced into this decision by Wabler. If I knew that then I could form a better opinion on the future of Archie at UD.

The problem is the next men up are only 6'6"

One of our coaches is from Syracuse, I think its time to really consider playing some zone. I don't see how we can possible match up against most teams in the man.

This is a text my wife received from the best friend of a girl that was involved in the incident in Marycrest (I've changed the names):

Over the weekend, Jen's roommate moved out (she's just done, not even taking exams) so Jen was all alone in her room, she went to the bathroom and left her light on and didn't close the door all the way because that's just what everyone does, because they don't think anything would happen, when alison walked out of the bathroom she saw 2 really tall black guys standing Infront of her door looking in and they looked and saw her and one ran towards her and started asking her where this guy "big Steve" lives.. But she's on the 7th floor and that guy lives on the 1st, she told him that and the 2 guys ran away, she walked into her friends room to tell them what happened because she was freaked out and one of her friends was in there crying and freaking out saying that she was sleeping on the top bunk (it was 3-4 am) and she heard a lot of noise and thought her roommate was getting back from studying and she turned over and opened her eyes and the 2 guys were looking at her at her eye level and said something like "should've locked your door sweetheart" and ran out and that happened to multiple people on their side of the building in marycrest and they didn't know how they got in or anything because they don't live there, oh and all of the money from Jen's wallet was gone

not sure zone will help. One of most important things and why Syracuse and even EMU are good with it is they have a ton of length, the Flyers do not.

Being short I would say pressure the perimeter and send a hard double team at the post (something Archie rarely does) and everyone rebounds. Team will have to scramble a lot on defense from this point forward.

Detwon was (hopefully) targeting the 23d for his first game to play. I bet they are having some serious discussions now about moving that date up! I remember back in the day there was a pudgy 6'6" guy at Auburn by the name of Barkley who was known as "the Round Mound of Rebound." He did OK there and in the League. Height isn't all there is to rebounding, if the heart and desire are there. We'll see...

Most people don't want to have criminals on the teams they follow, and there are some (I hope a small minority) that don't care how they win. That would include lying, cheating and having criminals on the team. I don't think many of us want players on the team that they would be ashamed of and I don't think archie would either.

Archie will learn from this and it made me think of Tubberville the football coach at UC who was so tired of player problems that he said "No more second chances"

Exactly. I'm not going to blame Archie for not "knowing how to deal with players off the court" like some people have said. How can one assume that he hasnt tried? Unless it becomes a pattern that he recruits players with poor character, I'm going to give him a pass for this. Sometimes you just have a few bad eggs and it's not always so transparent when you recruit them.

And Rollo, come one. Gregory rarely had issues with kids not behaving? How about your favorite MK?

I have told some that Pollard reminds of Barkley in the open court. Seeing Detwon in warmups he looks like a wide body. Guess we will find out.

When I was growing up and something 'bad' would happen I would ask my dad why (you know when your young your parents knew everything ).

Now he was under Patton 3rd Army and took part in all manner of things during that time including the Battle of the Bulge so he would just honestly look at me and say " I don't know, sometimes things just happen ".

I am waiting for some facts to appear. If theft, then they should have been arrested and booked. If trespassing, then that is another story all together, which is what ESPN said and UD Earl posted (implied since he did not name the two black guys). Where did the money go? Did they have the money? Whatever they did it amounted to enough to get kicked off the team, that is the only fact published so far. Have not seen anything about kicked out of school or them being arrested, I'll await the UD announcement or the Dayton police report. Wait until the facts are known before passing judgement on the two people. I don't really believe much of what the news media has to say until about a week later when a few facts appear, remember the U of Va/Rolling Stone story!

I am all for giving kids 2nd and even 3rd chances, depending on the circumstances. I have no problem with a coach taking a chance on a kid who may have had a colorful past, in hopes of helping him turn his life around.

I just do not like seeing the facts swept under the rug.

The first and second time...maybe...it is a coach's job to be so far in his guys asses that the guys should be wondering if coach will find out if they snored that night. It is their job. AD's and coaches determine the cleanliness of a program...not an 18-22 year old individual.

I have said this to some others...but I will stick to my guns and say that the only reason that these two were still with the program is that AM knew he needed them to do anything last season. He knew that in his short time here, last season was the first that he had a chance at making a name for himself. He did that...He has an alibi now in the future..."Yes AD so and so...I know there was some bad press at UD...but I took a team to the E8 and was finally able to deal with my problem children..."...all while UD fans sit back...have to suck it up with their committed money this year...and hope that unproven people get us out of the eventual hole we will be in for the rest of this season. Is that some conspiracy theory stuff? Yep...and no way no how does a coaching staff and team that spends as much time as the do together not know what is going on.

This falls on the players involved as well as those who supervised them. Not knowing is fatal. Lesson learned?

Facts? I think that there are enough proven reportees on UDP whose "rumors" have turned to fact to know who knew what.
