Does Sibert Win A10 POY?
Without getting too far ahead of ourselves, if we are able to win at least a share of the A10 title, does Sibert win A10 POY?
In the A10, he ranks...
5th in ppg
10th in FT%
5th in 3PM
4th in STPG
He has a chance to jump up in all those categories with a few big games.
Everyone knows him for his ability to score, but 4th in steals was somewhat of an eye opener, giving him more credibility on the defensive end of the floor.
When going head to head against Graham this weekend, Sibert had the better game, and we got the W. When going head to head against Bembry, Sibert played tough D on the last play to force the TO, and we got the W.
Regardless of how next week goes, I believe he's a lock for first team A10. Hopefully Pierre can sneak into 2nd or 3rd team, and maybe Pollard wins most improved.

always been an east coast bias in the league. My guess is that Bembry will win it.

Nothing against Jordan Sibert, he is a heck of a player. However, Bembry in my opinion is the most complete player in the A-10. He does it all.

Is Bembry less relevant given his team has won only. 6 conference games? Think the competition comes more from Graham and Mathews

IMO Martin is the best player on URI and should get some POY votes. Mathews is very inefficient on offense, shoots a low percentage and turns it over a bunch.

Since I think the Flyers player of the year is Dyshawn Pierre, I'd have to say no.

His season numbers don't show to outsiders him doing anything great. They show him doing a lot of things really good. I agree with you, watch one game and it's apparent he is the key to this team, but his statistics aren't going to win him any awards -- this year.

That's my point. Does Bembry slide down in voting opening up a spot for Mathews/Sibert/Graham since St Joes is irrelevant? Bembry is the best player on a bad team, versus the other 3 all have their team in contention to win the league. If Sibert and Flyers finish strong, and Bembry doesn't, he has to get some looks.

On a secondary note, I am rooting for Sibert to get 1000 UD points. We don't want him depending on his OSU pts for his fame. He needs around 90 more I think. He should be able to do it in 6 more games, but we'll have to make some A10 or NCAA tournament noise.

Which in my opinion makes the award a farce anyway so I'm not worried about it. If voters aren't intelligent enough to look at more than stats to realize who the POY is, than the award means nothing.

The award is Player of the Year, not Most a Valuable Player. I wouldn't argue against Pierre being our most "valuable player", however for league recognition of Player of the Year, I think Sibert has a better chance to win it.

Pierre I'm a huge fan of, however Sibert is the sexier choice from our team.
Pretty sure it will be him or Bembry, with Bembry in the lead currently.
Thanks for those Ken Pom stats!!

Imho, due to Bembry's team being so low, and the fact that had he not been a showboat against Dayton his team may have won, he would not get my vote. While an extremely talented player, a player of the year worries more about his TEAM.

Well Sibert has one more POW award to add to his argument.
I don't know whether the POW and POY are decided on the same criteria, but Bembry only has one POW and Sibert 2.

Interesting discussion. Should league MVP be given to a player who has put up good numbers but can't lead his team to wins? IMO, you aren't that valuable if your team loses most of its games. MVP should go to a player who makes a difference in leading his team to wins. With that said Bembry should not win the award.

If it's called the MVP then the SJU kid should not be in the discussion. If it's the POTY award, which I believe it is, then he should definitely be in the top 3-4 as should Sibert as should Pierre.....

For all those saying "it's not even close"...Dickie V may be drinking some red and blue cool aid but I like it!

Love the POY for A10 pick, however COY wasn't our man or McKillop....
Also, look who he picks for BE POY. Would've loved to see him in red and blue but it all has worked out for both sides.

Three man dead heat for POY for the Flyers. The only "Of The Year" award I want and I dare to say everyone in a Flyer uniform wants is "Team of the Year", meaning conference and/or tournament champions. Now if we can sneak 3 on the First and Second Team A10 is a different story

Dickie V just publishes what one of his twenty-year-old interns tells him.
Then he $*ts it down his royal commode.

At one time I thought this was the case because Bembry had the "eye" test of looking like the best player. Thinking about it now, I am not so sure. Easier to put up numbers with weaker team. Just ask Kevin Love. I like Jordan's chances.

What's wrong with Dickiey V's choice of A10 POY?
ATLANTIC-10
PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Jordan Sibert, Dayton
COACH OF THE YEAR: Danny Hurley, Rhode Island
DIAPER DANDY OF THE YEAR: Jaylen Adams, St. Bonaventure
COMMENTS: Tough call for player of the year. DeAndre Bembry of St. Joseph's had a great season, but the Hawks are below .500. EC Matthews of Rhode Island has been solid. VCU's Treveon Graham is in the discussion. Hurley had the Rams in contention much of the season.

What I'd like to focus on his JS's next career: pro ball.....The one thing (although many things overall) that he has greatly improved on that will enhance him is his ability to get to the basket. He shied away from contact greatly last year and could not finish many plays. This year? He's as good as any off guard in college BB getting to the rack and finishing.
He was mainly a catch and shoot guy a year ago along with great athletic ability, great body, and hops. When his shot was off, his entire game was off.But now he's incorporating all of that into his game and using all those assets to complete a play..His handling of the ball is now second nature and does not slow him down like it did a year ago...When the jumper/ 3 ball is not falling he creates space by going hard to the bucket. Defenders cannot drape him anymore because of that ability.
The NBA is no longer a pipe dream for him although, as we see many times, it's not the best situation for all players. Doesn't mean they are not good enough but there are financial deals abroad that can make a player very wealthy both in $$, knowledge, and that ability to see the world. And as we've seen with BROB it has also worked to improve one's game on a weakness or two..

I've been watching the mocks the last couple weeks to see if he sneaks into Round 2 in any. Nothing at this point. That being said, I have absolutely no idea how accurate the mocks are with the players drafted in Round 2 (not concerned about correct team).

Probably McKillop or Miller for coach of the year. Tough call objectively, Davidson did step up in conference after losing 6 seniors and is in line to finish in sole possession of first or win top seed in a tie break, after being picked for near the bottom of the league. What Miller has done wiht the hand dealt is a helluva in season coaching job.
Hurley a distant third.
POY - After watching VCU collapse I'd have to give consideration to Weber.

Graham was a complete non-factor last night. Every game I have seen with him this year he was always very active and attacking the paint but last night he was invisible.

If Jordan has a game tomorrow similar to Tuesday's game, he will win back to back player of the week awards coming in the heat of the race for 1st place. No one could top that.

I want Jordan Sibert winning.
We are so balanced, I have difficulty saying Sibert is the Flyers' key player, but he is the senior in this amazement, and I've mentioned that the others seem to like and respect him especially.
Obviously, Dayton would have lost more games without any one of five starters.
For myself, Kendall does the most. A three-way tie > Kyle, Jordan, Dyshawn.
My goodness, Scoochie is huge too, and his name is Scoochie besides. THAT counts for something.
Then again, would it surprise anyone in an NCAA critical moment that Bobby snatches the victory or Baby hits.

The ankle looked to really bother Graham last night. If he is that hobbled, I'd shut him down till till the first game in Brooklyn. If he plays, and Brooklyn wears on him, he'll be a nonfactor if they get in the dance.
VCU is all havoc. Their half court offense under Shaka is ALMOST Gregory bad. Teams are figuring out havoc, and VCU is a very ordinary top 125 type team if they can't create close to 20 turnovers.
They are getting really good recruits, so maybe Shaka will go to a more traditional style and focus on half court offense. If not, their days as a more elite team may be nearing an end.

Shaka concerns me a little. He is recruiting great athletes with so-so court sense, who cannot shoot. I heard somewhere that does not work well.

Awards from today's banquet.
I think co-MVP was fitting with the team concept.
Jordan Sibert has had a major impact on UD basketball. He is part of the step to the next level. He met the challenge that Archie gave him to transform himself and UD basketball. There is a special bond between the two of them.
He is as good as anyone in the A10.
Jordan is as nice a person as you ever want to meet. He is humble, religious, honest and genuine. As great as he is on the court, he shines that much more off the court!

Archie was asked this question on his show and he didn't expect Sibert to win but hoped he would be 1st team all A10

So our team MVP and possible A10 POY has no kids, no criminal record and is going to graduate? Is that even possible???
Imagine that.

Hey, with our recent Elite 8 run, off the court issues involving both academics and criminal charges, players being kicked off the team and our coach in the national spotlight....
I finally feel we have all the credentials to be a major program
