These Guys Need New Shoes
Really not much else to say. I can't remember a time where our boys have slipped more times than they have in the last 3-4 games.
Against URI, SJU and SBU it seemed every other play we slipped and it was a travel. I'm thinking to myself...OK, maybe it's the floor. Maybe the guys are tired. Maybe good D. Maybe an awkward and weird series of plays. One of those things...It has to be!
Then comes tonight. CC played 20 of his 36min laying on the ground and DD rolled out a cot as he was constantly laying down.
Enough is enough!!!! What's going on with these shoes?!?!

Saw the soles of one of the shoes on one of the slip/travels at St. Joe. They seem to have kind of a "stucco" finish to them, instead of a tire-like "tread", like my generic New Balance walking shoes. Almost looked like "racing slick" tires on a top fuel dragster. Yeah, that could be a problem.

I'm going to preface my comments with the fact that I collect and resell Jordans and any other limited edition shoes all of the time. Because of this I watch what the players are wearing pretty closely.
Most of the guys who play don't wear the actual team issued shoes. The ones several of them wear are more expensive and theoretically better shoes. Scoochie rotates through at least 3 or 4 pairs of different Kobes(Lo&Hi). He was wearing some hi top Red Navy & white Kobe X's tonight. Pollard has that same pair and a couple more pairs of low top Kobes. Cooke wore the team shoes earlier in the year but has been wearing some high top all white Kobes or some All Black(maybe Dark Navy) Lebrons lately. Pierre has a low top orange/peach shoe that I think are Kobes and some Dark Navy Lebrons. Kyle wears a low top Black KD7 every game. Big Steve and Crosby are wearing the new Kyrie signature shoe.
I really don't think it's the shoes or the floor that is causing the players to slip. I think they are simply trying to stop/change direction to quickly and don't have their bodies in a position to maintain their balance.

Winner....the guys aren't under control and are all over the place...it is obvious when they are trying to force the pace of play and not being within themselves is when they hit the deck.

It's not as though we are playing so out of control that when we go to pivot we should be slipping.
The problem is especially bad with CC. I remember last week against SJU he caught the ball at the top of the circle, drover left and his foot just slipped out from under him. Then again same thing last night. And a few other times too. I wouldn't characterize these types of plays "out of control" or "all over the place". These are just simple basketball plays that for whatever reason he continues to fall to the ground.

Just because the shoes are not red or blue does not mean they are not wearing team issued shoes. I can't speak for Dayton specifically anymore, but I know at the school I work at they can get pretty much get any style and color they want as long as it is a Nike shoe. I know at most schools on UD's level or above, the guys get 6-10 pairs a shoes a year. So they would have a variety to wear and rotate throughout the year. Maybe these guys have a pair or two of their own, but most would be wearing team shoes.

See the pattern here? Kobe is done so why not switch to the Jordan Brand Kawhi Leonard's? Put tape over the Jordan logo so it won't be noticed by most that they are non-Nike..LOL.

Some of the time guys just trip or are clumsy, but c'mon man have some of you guys watched the games? There were many flat out slips on the Joe's floor and last night. Funny we do not see these slips on our court.

I recall Cooke tweaked his ankle a few games ago (looked bad at the time, but he went back into the game)... was wondering if it is not 100%, and is part of his problem.

Maybe the guys feel less comfortable on the road and pressing more than they do at home. This can cause them to be more out of control and slip and fall. It is not that hard to explain, especially with as bad as we have been playing.

All this is is very true. Not knowing what UD's Nike deal made me wonder. I know that Xavier does this exact thing because there was an article about them picking out shoes a year or two ago. The main point is that they're all wearing high quality shoes and I don't think that's the problem.

I remember this exact play and personally thought Cooke tried to turn the corner too hard and was basically leaning against the defender. Then the defender backed off a little and Cooke basically fell because the defender had been holding him up.

As a highly respected and compensated landfill engineer, I can say with confidence that in order protect human health and the environment, landfills are not permitted to accept asbestos, hazardous waste, explosives or adidas gear without a written exemption from the Governor, President or, in some cases, the King.
Allow me to suggest incineration as an alternative disposal method.

Players are trusting in ball movement and player movement to create good shots, too much individual play. The only guy that seems to committed to moving the ball is Pierre.

True indeed, however Dayton is a Nike school, hence the players are required to wear Nike. Select schools such as UNC, Cal, Georgetown and yes that school across town are Jordan Brand schools.

I'll let m21eagle45 confirm this but I'm 99% sure that if they had Jordans that they wanted to wear they could. Kentucky is a "Nike" school and some of their guys wear Jordans and I've seen some guys on random nike teams wearing the new Jordan XXX.
Also Wright State is not a Jordan brand school. They simply picked those uniforms out of the Nike Team catalog and ordered them just like any other college or high school in the country could have done. Plus if you'll look at pictures they just wear the standard Nike team shoes.

That does not matter. There are some select Jordan Brand items only available for the top tier Jordan Schools, but not all Jordan products are Jordan only. Many Nike schools have athletes wearing Jordan shoes during games. And as C-Time has said, schools like Wright State can order Jordan uniforms and shoes, but that does not mean they are a Jordan school. Dayton, having a Basketball deal with Nike, has access to the Jordan shoes and some apparel, just not all the Jordan items that Georgetown and UNC have access to.

They have been playing too fast and rushing in all aspects of the game. They need to go back to playing within themselves and trusting their teammates. There has been more individual play than I can remember in the past 2 yrs.

Shoes?
I think recent play has more to do with the psychology of being ranked #13, losing a key guy, lack of ball movement, and up to the SLU game, a fall off in defensive intensity. That being said, the D kept us in the game yesterday. Gotta give them props for that.
