Two coaches out there laying in the weeds

Darrin Horn & Keith Dambrot, both of them would slide down mountain of razor blades into a pool or rubbing alcohol for the job.

I still say we forget all the non sense and hire a real basketball coach. Someone like ray harper, 439 wins in 18 years as a head coach. In those 18 years has been in the national title game 9 times and won 4 of them. Roy Jones said it. E

harper has an impressive record. It is a concern with me that his success at wku was early on. As he recruited his own players success was more limited. You could easily believe that if he could keep the recruits at UD he could win in the short term

Future

Archie would have likely struggled next year with the loss of 4 starters. Any new coach we hire will have a very tough job. Not to mention that our incoming recruits will be targets for rival programs.

Buckle your seat belts, it may be a difficult ride for a couple of years.

i think Keith Dambrot is a terrific coach, but he is not leaving Akron. He is from Akron, his mother was a professor there, and the University gave him an opportunity to coach when no one else would touch him. Akron has in Dambrot what we wish for, a great coach who is completely committed to staying there no matter who comes calling.

Duquesne is pursuing Dambrot for at least the 3rd time now.

1. 2012

2. he already turned them down this year, and

3. they are refocusing on him now.

https://www.fanragsports.com/news/du...keith-dambrot/:

The Dukes have already seen multiple people pass on their vacancy, but could have a chance to lure Dambrot to Western Pennsylvania “if they show a commitment to winning in all areas”, one source said.

I'm sorry but I follow college basketball pretty closely and until these threads started I did not know who Ray Harper was. I'm not even saying he is a bad coach but I can unequivocally tell you that UD will not be hiring him as their next head coach. The next coach will be someone we have all heard of. Even Archie, who was only an assistant when he was hired, had been talked about as a rising star and whose name came up many times when good mid-major jobs opened. So can we just stop with all this talk now???

Hey, I am new to this college basketball thing. Can someone tell me when does Dayton University starts their season? Is Ray Harper the coach? Been hearing a lot about him, for the first time ever.

Because no one outside of the western edges of Kentucky gives a crap about a Division II basketball coach that limited success in below average conferences with the only two Division I teams he has coached. Dude goes from DII to NAIA, to low level DI. If he was that hot of a coach back when he was killing it, don't you think that a more prominent DI school would have offered in the last decade?

Given the success that Kentucky Wesleyan has had since Harper's departure, should give you some indication that it seems the norm to be successful at Kentucky Wesleyan no matter who is at the helm.

We need a little humor around here given the loss of Archie and the whole cadre of recruits.

Well, we haven't lost the "whole cadre of recruits" yet (and I hope they all stay, but I know that's not a realistic expectation). But this whole situation does remind me of the saying that goes something like "I have to laugh because otherwise I'd cry." Yes, I am there.

I have to admit that if I was looking for a head coaching job, my best strategy would be to hire a troll to pound a fan message board. Gets the job done every time.

LMAO. Been going to other boards, within A10, Indiana, Ohio State, Xavier etc... one that you would expect some talk about the UD coaching loss and job opening.

I can't wait until one of them says "Lot of talk over on UDPRIDE about Ray Harper being their next coach" and the story explodes nationally.

Dambrot's non-con SOS is among the worst in the country every year. Program has never shown an ability to create an at-large resume'. It feasts on cupcakes. He won a ton of games this year and was never even on the page for an NCAA at-large bid. We need a coach that knows how to win vs the Big10, ACC, etc. and mot importantly recruit at an elite level.

MAC aint what it used to be either. Akron does not go to the NCAAs regularly. Another pause in my view. Earl Boykins, Gary Trent, and Wally Szczerbiak are no longer in that league. Should be easier to win the MAC now than at any time in the last 20 years.
