greatest minutes 7 through 32 for a Flyer ever.

Kostas played 6 minutes against Ball St. And 26 minutes against Hofstra. Never, ever, have I been as impressed with minutes 7 through 32 in a Flyer player's career. NEVER. What a player!!! 10 boards, 10 points, 4 blocked shots, one steal, 2 assists and zero turnovers. What wasn't shown were the amount of shots missed because he made Hofstra alter them and the hustle for loose balls.

If this guy reaches his full potential with the Flyers, move over Donnie May and Roosevelt Chapman, this guy will be the greatest all around player in Flyers history.

I know, big if, but dang, he was soooo impressive.

Slow down, Smitty10. Yes, Kostas was very impressive last night. But "the greatest"? I remember watching on TV as your namesake went-off against Loyola of Chicago for 52, back when every basket counted for only 2 points. I remember Velvet going for 41 in an NCAA game, where one of the guys who had to guard him was the late, great Wayman Tisdale, an All-American from Oklahoma. Donny May vs. UNC in the Final Four.

The greatest in over 3 decades? Possibly. Are we glad to have someone like him on our side? Definitely! But the greatest of all time? Not so sure about that.

Hopefully the hustle is infectious. We miss that from KD. Really helps create offensive opportunities.

1) Tuffy Rhodes didn't turn out to be Hank Aaron. (For cubs fans who remember his 1994 start)
2) Osweiler isn't John Elway
3) and Ginger was never hotter than Mary ann

We'll see about Kostas. It was a decent start.

No crystal, but for this season I will be glued to my seat watching Kostas and his performance. Also love his attitude when he got into that argument briefly yesterday.

If Kostas ended up being the third best Flyer ever, and stayed four years, I'd be extremely happy.

It doesn’t work that way. If he is really good, he does not stay four years.

This thread starter might, just maybe, be a little hyperbolic.

That said, it's pretty clear that Kostas needs to be in the rotation heavily subbing for X-Man and Josh. If he keeps playing like that, he absolutely has to be in the game 20+ minutes a night

I love watching him play and maturing right before our eyes! I only hope that his hustle becomes contagious as some of his teammates need to take it up a notch!

Maybe you all misunderstood what I was saying, yes, I said if he reaches full potential he could be greatest all around player. But what I already give him greatest at is nobody else was as impressive from minutes 7 through 32 of their career. None that I've ever seen. No, not Mikesell who scored 20+in his first game, that was just a good shooting night. Kostas looked dominant in so many ways. His athleticism isn't going to be a fluke like Mikesell's shooting has turned out to be.

He's not as chiseled as Chris Wright but already he looks like he's going to be everything we expected Chris Wright to be but much more of a baller.

Okay, I'll temper my enthusiasm but if anybody can tell me of a better performance from a player in their 2nd game at UD, or as I said minutes 7 through 32 of their career, let's hear it.

Smitty, I agree, but it is part of one game. Not judging his career from last night, nor tonight if he lays an egg.

As for all who said he was too skinny, etc, forget that stuff. He is chiseled in a very slim body and can mix it up. His jumping, quickness, strength and moves negate any weight issue. No, in fact they exceed it.

Jack, yeah, I get it, we would've been wrong to forecast a great career for Baby D and Mikesell based on their first performances. But as I said, what I saw with my eyes translated to more than a hot night, you can see he has it all and why he's not just a cheap knockoff of his brother because he carries the same surname. He's going to be a very special player. And possesses the kind of skills that potentially can carry teams very, very far.

Kostas is a very different player than Giannis, and that's not a bad thing. As long as he plays within himself and plays his game and doesn't try to emulate his brothers game the potential is still extremely high. Based on how CAG is using him so far, I think he's on a good path.

Has there been any word on the youngest brother's (Alex?) interest in potentially playing with Kostas? I thought I remember reading he was a highly ranked recruit as well.

All Smitty is saying is that he can't recall a Flyer making that big of an impact in what was essentially their first real action.

I tend to agree with that. He was the difference maker last night. He and DD are the only guys keeping us in the game in the 2nd half. I can't remember ever saying "He was the difference maker" about a guy in his first significant minutes in a Flyer uniform.

The examples given in this thread of other players are talking about games that happened later in the year - not in their first significant minutes.

The next big question with Kostas will be consistency. He looked great last night. Where was that against Ball St? Is it a consistency thing? Is it an AG thing where he just needed to keep Kostas out there in game 1? Tonight gives us another data point. Would love to see him start tonight.

I tend to think some players in their first games shine because of the extra adrenaline and nerves and others do the opposite. Kostas was probably a little overwhelmed in his first game. He's had to sit for a year chomping on the bit and he's the most talked about Flyer who's never played a game both locally and nationally based on his brother of course. I give him a pass for that.

His first real game was amazing. He just fills up the stat line. 4 blocks?!? 2 assists w/no TO's. 1 steal. And only two fouls in 26 minutes, one of which was questionable. 10/10 with 60% shooting.

Energy galore. How do you take him out unless he is on life support?

He has got to gain strength, but he is going to be a story line for every broadcast.

Grant said on his Monday night show that Kostas only had about 4 practices before game 1 - between his injury and time away for his dad passing.

1980: Roosevelt Chapman's 2nd game as a Flyer against the SF Doms. I tried finding stats, but couldn't. My remembrance is leaving that game after he won it for us by putting the team on his back late in the game for the WIN and thinking he was going to be a great player.

I'm hoping Kostas will be even better than Velvet.

Okay, but I'm betting that Velvet played more than 6 minutes in his first game so my minutes 7-32 still stand

That makes sense. Assuming he's healthy, he needs to be in 20-25 minutes a night. We don't need X-Man and Cunningham playing 30-35 minutes a night. They'll wear down by February with that amount of minutes.
