Duquesne Thread
TO Dukes - UD up 11-6 in the first. On our 10th point, the camera angle showed Jane going back to serve and Coach Audrey on the bench giving her the #1 zone cue behind her clipboard. So Jane served to their Libero who was in the #1 zone -- ball was short -- just into the zone and it was an ACE!!! Great call by Coach Audrey and get execution on the serve by Jane. Pretty fun too watch and see that behind the clipboard angle.

Not even close - UD wins 1st set 25-14. Dukes MB Love is getting hers - hitting .500 -- but no one else can terminate. And Dukes defense isn't very good.

TO Dukes - UD up 14-8 in 2nd. It's been closer because half Dukes points have been our errors. But we are in a run and they needed to try to stop it. UD playing best match I've seen them play this year. Both Middles and Setter timing/sets are having some problems this set -- but otherwise playing well.

TO UD - still up 19-18 but we just committed like 5 hitting errors in the last 6 points. Dukes aren't upping their game -- we just lowered ours and need to pick it back up to finish this set strong.

Great serving run by Alaina. The girls call her "TOT" for Time Out Turner when she's serving. The best server on the team, imo.

Looked like Erhahon was having a bad day. Looked like they set her 3 times and she missed all three.
Okay is UD gotten that good or is Duke just way overrated in preseason talks. Was worried after the first game the ladies might let up as they had done in games past. Glad to see them come through.
Turner got 3 aces on her last serve then got the 25th point too.

TO UD - behind 17-14 in 3rd. It's been pretty much 1 point difference, but a couple bad bounces so needed the TO.

I'm guessing that Duquesne has a very good middle blocker and they were concerned more than most about Amber's hitting. If I am right then it has freed Jill up one on one and she has made them pay.

Good win! Their level of play (pointed out by beckystxa) dropped in set 3 and they lost which is a good learning experience. The offensive numbers were good today.

Agreed, Loiars had 16 kills and Jendryk had 20. It was as if Dukes decided to defend the middles and let us beat them from the outside, which we obliged.
Thought we fell in love with the soft tap there in last two sets.
But a win against the preseason frontrunner is a winner.
Hitting .309 for the match isn't too shabby especially against a quality opponent.

You can only use that shot so many times with success. But if the hitter knows their spike will be blocked it is better than just hitting directly into the block.

UD wins 3-1. Sorry I had to fix my husband dinner. I saw nothing of the 4th or the end of the 3rd.

Was just going to post about our schedule -- one advantage is we are set up to play one tough opponent and one lesser opponent every week. Everyone else (except SLU) has to do the Dayton-SLU weekend -- two tough opponents back to back.
Not real happy we dropped a set -- and I'm sure the team feels the same -- but really nice start to conference play. We should take care of LaSalle and not lose focus at Penn and come home 3-0 for the weekend.
Duquesne is not as advertised going into the season, but we will know more about how they and SLU will stack up in the A-10 after their match this weekend.
Again, great start to the conference run.

Amber - 2 of her 3 errors I saw -- Jane set the ball below the net and Amber tried her best to get a solid fist under it to hit it over all in the air within about 3 secs reaction time. If you use your fingers in that situation you get called for a lift. Both were great attempt to save a bad set, but couldn't pull off the almost impossible shot.
Along those same lines -- the timing issues between the MBs and the setter aren't necessarily the setter. Talked to an MB I know and she said sometimes it's the hitter not getting a consistent jump -- meaning is the hitter consistently jumping the same height and speed off the floor. So I tried to watch for that with streaming video -- not easy to do, but I think there is some hitter jumping inconstancy contributing to the timing with the setter as well as some off-sets.
Solution is the ladies just need to keep working hard on fixing it. Might require some extra time after practice -- it's certainly correctable with work.
Learned something new to watch for from the conversation.

Wow GW jumped out to an 8-2 lead at the break.
Darnold for RI had 25 kills through 4 sets, no one else with double kills for RI
GW has shut her down in the 5th set. One pony or horse show for RI.
5th set and match to GW 15-5. Finally figured out how to stop Darnold and the Island sinks.

You may be confused because they are in at the same time but they don't call turner 'TOT'. That is for Loiars. They call her the tower of terror!! They do yell out what I believe is "turn up turner" but that is not the tot cheer!
