Sounds like he may not fit AG's system either then if he is not committed to the details of rebounding and defense.

Just a heads up... Per Matt Schwade... Sinclair's Sean McNeil visiting again for today's game vs. Presbyterian, which is good news... Show him love if you see him

Hopefully we put on a better show than the one he saw at Cintas yesterday lol

Maybe that’s why Jordan Davis had a better game today? Potential competition for next year in the house?

Per Evan Daniels and Jon Rothstein, U of Florida’s 6’9” Chase Johnson is visiting Dayton today. He missed almost all of last season with concussions and missed some of this season too. I don’t know how many years he would have left if he came in as a mid-season transfer.

Originally a top-100 recruit, went to Huntington Prep.

He’d be a sophomore eligible 2nd semester. If he finished the year at Florida it might be possible to get the freshman year back on injury redshirt

I can remember three players, one men and two womens, who had concussion problems recently. All three went downhill and never made it fully back.

Johnson already has a red shirt for last year. He would have five years to play four. Is it possible he appeals to NCAA, and gets this year back, transfers and plays as a frosh next year?

Didn't Ryan Bass come into the program with concussion problems? That didn't work out so well.

That would be awesome... If that happens, bringing him on would definitely be worth the risk

I’m wrong he could still push for the medical redshirt last year

Wonder if they’re going beat available for the last scholarship or if there’s gonna be some more openings. Seemed like they were targeting guards

Yep. Came in as a Grad Transfer, to replace Khari Price (who left after the E8 season). Basically only played in the non-con, and suffered a concussion that drove him onto the DL and out of intercollegiate basketball permanently.

Source: Florida transfer Chase Johnson will take a visit to Pittsburgh this weekend. Johnson visited Dayton this past weekend. The former top 100 recruit will have 3 1/2 years of eligibility.

Assuming this guy knows what he is talking about, Johnson would come in as a Frosh next year after Christmas.

Pittsburgh hosting Former Florida forward Chase Johnson for an official visit starting today. Is a major want/need for Jeff Capel’s front court.

Has visited Dayton officially.

For Pitt, would be much needed player + is only 280 miles away from home (Huntington, WV).

Wrong, the final score was 85-60. Must have gotten the incorrect score from CNN.

That outcome could lead Johnson to have either of 2 very different trains of thought:
1) “Man, this team sucks! I don’t want to go to a team that’s going to be losing like this!”
2) “Man, this team sucks! I should be able to get all kinds of playing time here!”

Which was it? We’ll see...

Not sure if anyone saw but, Sean McNeil was behind the bench again last night, which is interesting because he hasn't been at a game in a month... Thought the interest would stop after adding Chase, so interesting development there

Not unusual, you continue to recruit just in case someone decides to leave, fails out, has a major injury, ect. Pretty standard practice.

Odds are "somebody" will transfer. Who knows, but the average program losses at least 1 kid, if not more than 1 kid to transfers a year. UD is in a unique situation with only 8 scholarship kids available in that no one should be *****ing for playing time, its pretty clear if you've earned it over somebody else or not (at least in games), so they likely hood is far lower with UD this year, but still you've got several people that have to be looking up at a long jam next season.

I know it’s more likely than not, but I think it’s a possibility no one transfers out after the season. These guys genuinely seem to like one another. Having said that, Frankie is the most likely based on available playing time and knowing what we have sitting out this year. And even though he’s going to be a senior, I think Trey might consider a transfer. Possibly Jordan. Both of their minutes could be seriously impacted. But this is one of those years when I really hope they all stay. I know we need a shooter, so IF someone leaves, I trust AG will use the opening to improve the team on the perimeter.

I'm guessing Policelli won't go for a Red Shirt next year- but I don't see his role next year getting any bigger than it is now.

I'll guess that Sissoko Red Shirts & CJ gets minimal minutes 2nd semester, so the "bigs" all have PT available.

I've been wondering how Crutcher and Davis will react, play differently/better? if they don't have to play 30+ minutes every game. I don't even remember what it's like having 3 PGs on the same roster. We could play more 4 guard 1 center next year or 3-1-1. Will be interesting to see substitution patterns and mixing lineups next year...

Four candidates?

In no way am I suggesting this is a possibility, but remember that Mikesell will most likely graduate this year. He is a free agent and can play anywhere next year with no sit out year.

Other than Ryan, the only other possibility would be Policelli based on the current playing time.

What we don't know is who among the four redshirt players is tearing it up in practice. If Watson or Chatman is clearly better than one of the existing guards (Cohill, Crutcher, or Davis) and they believe their playing time would be reduced, I suppose one of them might look for greener pastures but I really doubt that will happen.

We were in the same spot last year with Obi. Now that we’ve seen how far he came in his redshirt year I’ve been wondering how much of what he was doing in practice last year played into Kostas leaving. Granted, there was the lack of minutes, not buying into AGs system and hating the academic requirements. But knowing Obi would be competing with him for minutes had to also been part of the equation.

I doubt 3 of those 4 probably don’t exist with anyone currently in the rotation. They will have to compete against the four transfers for minutes but we all know there are minutes to be earned and distributed. Depth will be a new look for us next year. And how mature is Obi. I don’t think he’s too “concerned” he’s in the 6th man role for this team. He sees the benefits of watching the first 5-6 minutes from the bench. Great to see that attotude and buy-in. He’s a human highlight reel and with comments like that he will probably go down as one of the all-time fan favorites before he’s done.

Certainly someone could leave but like M21 suggested this could just a way to keep someone on the front burner in case anything happens. It's an easy trip to bring McNeil over

It'll be interesting to see what happens

Remember the tall kid from Dayton who went to MSU a few years back? He was constantly at UD games and had zero interest in UD.

Anyone know the NCAA rule regarding giving recruits tickets?

Jefferson's Adrienne Payne (sp)

As for tickets, I believe they must be requested and there is no guarantee you will receive any. Player + 2 is the most allowed and you must be a recruitable athlete...so only juniors and seniors can request tickets.

Jonah Antonio is transfer from Mount St. Mary's where he averaged 11.3 ppg and 3.8 rpg last season. Jonah is big shooting guard that does a great job moving without the ball and coming off downscreens looking to catch and shoot. He is currently averaging 12.7 ppg and 4.6 rpg. He is shooting 42.7% from 3 (6.9 attempts per game).

Offers: Florida, UC Santa Barbara, Montana, Montana State, UTRGV, Arkansas Little Rock, UMKC

Interests: Youngstown State, Portland State, St Bonaventure, Dayton, South Dakota State, Loyola Marymount, UAB, Hawaii, UT Arlington, Milwaukee, Akron

I don’t want to speculate as to “who, if anyone” might leave. We have a good group of young men, who seem to like being a part of our team, and while they’re not playing Elite Eight caliber basketball, they’re showing the most “team” attitude since the year of The Magnificent Seven, and playing well in the process. I hope they all stay, and continue to develop.

And yeah, matchups next year could be really fun to watch. Imagine a front line that can go 6’7” (Ryan), 6’9” (Obi), and 6’11” (Jordy) against a P5 opponent, or 6’5” (Trey), 6’5” (Jhery), and 6’7” (Frankie) against a smaller, quicker squad. Lots of possibilities.

Interesting prospect from Australia. A 6'5" kid, who can kill it from outside, and has proved it at a D1 level. His 90 threes made is the second highest total ever at Mt St Mary. To put that in perspective, Brian Roberts made 100 his best year.

Not sure what happened at Mt. St Mary, but he would be a great get. Could play next year and has two years left.

Let's say that everyone stays and we go 12 deep like BG did in 08-09.
12 guys averaged over 8 minutes a game.
27-8 overall. 18-0 at home. Beat WVU in the NCAA 1st round.

Raise your hand if you will complain about "line changes" as we win games.

I'm certainly no insider on MSM basketball, but I do follow the program because my granddaughter goes to school there. Yes the coach left after their conference championship and NCAA tourney season, as did the top three returning scorers. Seems to be a way of life for smaller schools in lesser conferences.

Mikesell? Really! Let’s see team captain, floor leader, outstanding individual, local talent why would you even mention him in the same breath with the word transfer. What upside.

My complaint with BG or any coach who makes line changes, is when the hot shooter goes out of the game, just because it is his time in the rotation to sit. If a guy has hit back to back to back 3's, he should stay in the game as long as he does not need oxygen and still able to play D. Never take out the hot hand.

That approach cost us about five games per year. It was horrendous. Without the hockey line approach, Brian Gregory would have been an excellent coach.

This times 10. Scripted, hockey-line substitutions that don’t take into account the flow of the game are counterproductive. If a player has just made back-to-back 3s, or stolen the ball 2 of the last 3 times down the court, or gotten the last 4 rebounds, etc., you leave the player in. RIDE THE HOT HAND as long as that player is easily getting the better of his opponent, and the team is playing well while he’s in the game.

I still remember vividly a moment from the game at GW in BG’s last season as HC. Digger Phelps was the first to employ the hockey-line substitutions, and after many good teams at Notre Dame, his record deteriorated and he was eventually fired/relieved. This approach is a curse for any team that uses it.

Reading this article, I saw nothing about muscle memory. My personal experience is that when you feel the muscle memory is there, you can't miss. My experience may be in Corn Hole/Beanbag, but those games have so.something in common with basketball, throwing an object through a hole. When I am on, "feeling it", I have thrown with my eyes covered and won. When you can make shots with your eyes closed, it is not randomness, I believe it is muscle memory, and sitting out can cause you to lose it.

6'7" fast rising prospect has two other offers from Stony Brook and Cal Poly. I wonder if Rhode Island is hoping he is still growing and will get to 6'10" like Obi.

As I mentioned in another thread, I spoke with Obi's mom at the URI game on Saturday and the brother was there in attendance. She said the younger son is starting to blow up in terms of recruiting because of the attention that Obi is starting to get.

Virginia, Missouri The Latest Schools To Watch Qualifier Sean McNeil (6'4, G, Sinclair CC)

McNeil has offers from Western Kentucky, Toledo, Dayton, James Madison, UNC Asheville and Evansville. He is hearing from West Virginia, Xavier, Ohio State, Texas Tech and Marquette. He is still wide open and plans to take official visits after the season to see which program he is the most comfortable with and the best fit.

I still remember vividly a moment from the game at GW in BG’s last season as HC. Searcy was our starting center, and Benson was his backup, but Benson was having a good game, and Searcy couldn’t do anything right. Late in the first half, there was a dead ball. I said to my wife, “You watch. Gregory’s gonna put Searcy in for Benson.” She said, “But Benson’s playing well. My notes from that particular game:
Outshot 19/30 vs. 7/16 from FT line on 17 vs. 23 fouls. Also 19 TOs, many unforced.
Could have been more than just Gregory's approach (which I also hated) that contributed to this 2-point loss.

Muscle memory is real.... look at the navy Seals who have a ammunition budget equal to the rest of the Marine Corp. In addition has to be brain memory can you block out the distraction. Need a team shrink or hypnotist.

I had a good friend who was blind who could hit free throw after free throw- no distractions. Line him up at the foul line and he was golden.

That article seems to be written by people who never touched a basketball. Playing pickup games at UD on a daily basis, I can tell you some days I had it, and some days I didn't. Each shot did not have the same statistical probability of going in.

I have vivid memories of games where everything felt good and the basket seemed like it was the size of a hula hoop. Other days I could swear the basket was smaller than the ball and I was playing a carnival game designed for me to lose.

Players get hot. It's a thing.

Tom Archdeacon wrote an article about the heavy recruiting of McNeil. Many top programs in the country are offering him a scholarship.

Huggins got lost at Sinclair. 22 colleges have come to see him play and another 29 have called about him.

So far the only good programs that have offered McNeil are UD and West Virginia. Lots of lookers, but there must be something holding the bigger programs back.

As much as UD needs a shooter, I wish our weakest player would announce he is leaving, so we could grab McNeil before some bigger program takes a chance on him.

JUCO offers really don't take off till after the season is over, especially with an under the radar like McNeil

McNeil says he will not take any official visits until Sinclair's season is over, so he won't be committing before then. Dayton is mentioned near the end of the article.

Dayton offered him a scholarship in December and though the Flyers have since signed another guard and, as of now, have filled their scholarship quota for next season, they have kept recruiting him.

Along with Grant’s visits, assistant coach Donnie Jones has been over to see McNeil, as well.
Most interesting part of the article IMO

Clarence Nadolny: The 6-3 combo guard, who currently plays at Scotland Prep in Chambersburg, Pa., hails from Paris, France and first came to the United States in 2017.

Nadolny has all four years of college eligibility remaining.

Also in the mix are Iowa State, Dayton, Georgetown and Rutgers.

Close but no cigar: Years ago, Donoher occasionally used 6-8 Rory Dahlinghaus as a guard.

Rory? Are you thinking 6'8" Tim Pohlman of the famous Delphos St. John's Blue Jays??

I stand corrected by The King. It was indeed Pohlman. Size wise, those two were virtually interchangeable parts.

I recall, at the time his transfer was announced, that Chase was 6'9". How does 6'8" Tim Pohlman make the tallest claim for Chase "close but no cigar?" Is this another case of overstating how tall our players are. Perryman was listed as 6'7" but later said to be closer to 6'4". Ditto for several others. Nevertheless, I hope Chase is fully capable of playing inside most of the time. We need inside rebounding and defense.

The “close but no cigar” was referring to Pohlman, not Chase. Close as in just an inch shorter than Chase.

I remember Donoher doing that and thinking, at the time, that he got the idea from his buddy Jud Heathcote at Michigan State, who had a 6’8” kid named Earvin Johnson who played PG for the Spartans. And, at the time, Donoher didn’t need to play Pohlman in the post, because he had 5 other guys 6’8” or taller whom he could play at the 4/5 (Kanieski, Morrison, Gorney, Montague, and Reichert).

Mike Hartsock said he saw three Dayton coaches (Anthony Grant, Ricardo Greer and Donnie Jones) at Saturday's Sinclair game. They were there to watch Sean McNeil, who Dayton has been recruiting all season. He scored 34 points and made 6 of 9 3-pointers.

I have a feeling at least 1 schollie is going to open this spring... I love we are going all on "Hot Boy" ha... Shooting, yes please!

When the head coach is out of schollies but shows up along with his two assistants to a game to see you play, he's made it clear he's not done recruiting and is telling you there's room if you want it. We can all speculate on how and why that room might become available and there are a myriad of possibilities -- most of them on the up and up.

But you're not wasting your entire coaching staff's Saturday afternoon late in the regular season, when your existing team is going down the stretch in crunch time, to watch a kid in your back yard for the umpteenth time, without any available scholarship to give him, just to make sure he's still interested in you if on the 1% chance a schollie opens up and you can slide him in.

A million things could happen. Someone could leave. Someone could choose not to take a fifth year. Someone could not qualify academically. Almost every team has attrition every season. Its the rule not the exception.

1% a scholarship opens up? I would say more than 50/50...and perhaps closer to 100%.

Don't disagree with much you're saying but I think there's some contradiction here. Doubt at all that CAG knows he's got a spot available coming up. Now, he may assume he will or he'll do his part by suggesting to a certain player there's really no fit here for PT and suggest that player look around but, again, the kid from Sinclair is a 4 minute drive from CAG's office and taking 90 minutes on a Saturday after already watching hours of the RI game film and hours of the LaSalle team is far more common for these guys than you think. Especially for a player that could be a real difference-maker in what can be a special year next season.

And, yes, even with a 1% chance a spot opens up these coaches would be ignorant to stop showing love to the kid they've already seen umpteen times. Being a JUCO there's a good chance he won't commit until late April after grades come out, iirc..That gives the entire UD program, coaches and players time to digest a bit what just happened the past 7-8 months and start talking about how they need to get better.Same for a player here in that he'll now have time to talk with family, look at other schools and their situation and even talk to other coaches.

Coaches and staffs are like GM's in baseball and other sports in that they're always looking to better their team and organization. Obviously, far easier for a GM in a pro sport as he can boot a player off the 40 man or trade a kid being that it's a business but just look at all the visits and offers (plenty are not committable on the spot) colleges make to HS players, full well knowing the 20 to 30 offers are only vying for 3-4 spots at most in most years...They're talking with these kids daily as allowable and texting non-stop with them, full-well, knowing they don't have a prayer of signing most of them and that plenty don't even have more than a token interest in UD.

I think the probability a spot opens up starts with a 99. I want McNeil. We need a shooter, preferably two of them.

Almost certainly Frankie is gone. He has virtually less opportunity for pt next year. Oh, for those who will vitriolically dusagree, go back and watch him in the last few minute of the 1st half of theVCU game. A cardboard cutout would have offered more.
