I hope he enjoys being "depth" and being recruited over. Because according to their message boards, that is what they see him as.

I could never convince myself that he was coming to UD. The playing situation at UD is every bit as crowded as it is at Michigan. It was not a position of need for UD especially with the Rogers signing (I saw Dawkins as a 2/3).
Michigan is a good school with a great academic reputation. If it doesn't work out at Michigan for Dawkins he can transfer out and IMO if it isn't going to work out at Michigan it would not have went much better at UD.

I would have been OK with getting Aubrey but would prefer to sign Tariq Owens and hold one for 2015

I don't know much about Owens or Minnis. In the end I trust that Archie has a plan and knows what he is doing. Certainly have no reason to doubt.

Aubrey might have been too good to pass up but was not at a position of need. I would be happy with your scenario. I'm sure that the elite eight appearance has opened some doors and given us some other opportunities

I said the same thing about Caris Levert. I think I may have even said he'd probably be looking at Dayton when he's recruited over and looking to transfer. And that guy is possibly going to be a lottery pick. Oops.
I can't be too bummed though. I know I disagreed with some saying that Aubrey filled a need (a guy to play the 3) vs a want, but that was before Detwon was signed. No doubt in my mind that a guy who can play both the 3 and 4 (Detwon) is actually more ideal than a guy like Aubrey who would play the 2 or 3.
So I think we're okay at small forward now no matter what happens. Will be interesting to see if we're still in the picture for Charles Cooke (a 2/3 like Dawkins) or if we're just focused on really tall dudes now - Cole Huff, Tariq Owens, Elijah Minnie, Chris Bryant, etc.

At this point, I would say bigger is better.

I don't think Aubrey filled a need. We are loaded right now at the 2/3 position. We really need 4/5 player. With Darrell Davis and Detwon, along with Pierre and Sibert we are well covered at the 2/3. Hopefully we can land one of these 6'9"- 6'10" kids.

I'm really trusting of this staff, but I would be giddy to pluck a big, tall plumb off the next tree. Throw us a bone Archie.

Hoped to get him, but the lure of the big school was too much. Wish him the best. Will he be Buckets or Gibson? Only time will tell.
Funny how schools with no interest for their entire higb school career stick their head in at the last minute and win.

John, it works both ways. We plucked Darrell Davis from under MSU. I wish Dawkins well, but this is not a big loss by any measure.

I believe this happened to Jabir recently. Worked very hard over a long time to get a big-timer to commit. Maryland (I think) offers out of the blue and steps over Dayton to get an immediate commitment. No painstaking investment, no sweat equity. Just the brand and the conference in neon lights.
Must be nice.

I think this is more likely to happen in spring too since a staff has less time to develop a relationship with the player

Anyone seen his film? Is he that good? I was surprised that he didn't have many suitors.

If Archie was after him then I wanted him too. But one had to wonder about his “blue blood” heritage and the lack of “blue blood” teams recruiting him…. until that school up north came along. The coaching fraternity is very tight and that alone would have seemed to get a Dooook or NC onto him – if he has that kind of talent. I wish him well and am confident that Archie has moved onto the next player.

Yep.....They're really never big losses because UD never had him in the first place..Limited time to develop a real solid relationship, the lure of a big conference, big conference TV ratings, also playing for a terrific HC, and a big conference team shining in the basketball spotlight far brighter than UD the past few seasons..Not to mention it's also a heck of an academic institution obviously..
Far different cry had Archie been on this kid a year plus now and put all his marbles into his recruiting which Archie is smart enough not to do just about for any player...

I think Coach Krzyzewski called his father to keep him out of the A10 and go to a conference that is a little less of a meat grinder.
