James Madison

Great first period. Ward gets her first Flyer points at the line.

26-12 Flyers after 1 quarter. Playing fairly well and shooting well. Ward seeing first action as a Flyer. Only 2 TOs. Did not hold for last shot of quarter again - sigh...

Someone should tell Dennis she doesn't need to shoot every time she touches the ball.

Nice half against a weak team.

Good to see Ward play, but she is rusty.

Harris continues her funk with no rebounds in four minutes.

60-43 Flyers end of 3rd. Again fail to hold for last shot.

Is there some rule in basketball that says everybody holds for the last shot of a half or a quarter except for the Dayton women's basketball team?

Scaife is flat out on fire. She has 20 on 4 threes in about 5 minutes. And 7 rebounds

Scaife with a double double on 24 and 11, on 8-16 shooting.

Ward looked decent. She has a high BB IQ and a strong physical body.

Layfield with 14 rebounds. This will be a physical, very good rebounding team in conference play.

Wilmouth hopefully is back Wednesday while Giaconi is probably not coming back. Glad to see offense running through Harris today.

Burdette 11 points away from 1000.

Wednesday's game will be her 100th so it would be neat if she should reach 1000 in her 100th game.

She was poor. Little offense, few rebounds, 2 assists.. Dennis was worse, completely stinking up the gym. The rest of the team was great despite the terrible post play. We shot well and drove effectively. JM helped a bunch by not being able to shoot at all. Harris had little to do with it . In fact she only played 22 mins.

I completely disagree...When that big for JMU was in there she was blocking shots and altering others. When we stuck Harris back in and fed her the ball, she got quick fouls against 31 and she had to come out. This is when Dayton opened it back up on the offensive side. Did Harris miss free throws? Yes, she did, but she battled their bigs very tough all game long. Harris had two fouls early and that limited her minutes.

As for Dennis, she did shoot poorly, but passed up a few shots and dished them. On defense she blocked a couple shots and handled the inside better than she has in many other games. I thought overall, she played great at times and poorly at other times, but overall gave us valuable minutes inside.

We have too many injuries and a depth problem in the 4 and 5 spots and I think Dennis and Harris have done well in this regard. With Ward in now and Wilmoth coming back we will be able to stretch out those minutes and both Harris and Dennis will be more effective.

Even though JMU was not a good team, we did what we were supposed to do and that is win and win big. I am happy with the win and looking forward to what the better competition in New Orleans will do to help us get better.

Go Flyers!

My comments were in response to Barney stating the "offense" was going through Hartis . It was not, and when it did it did not go well. She is a liability Ono with trouble hitting from point blank. On d she is generally solid.

Dennis, if she passed on shots it wasn't often. At least early she shot every time she got the ball, without success.7 misses and 3 to's no ft's and one hoop. Pas poor IMHO.

Harris was 1-4 with 4 rebounds and 2 assists and 5-10 FT in 22 minutes, so no the offense did not go through her, but they tried to at times. She was 1-3 on layups. Not sure what is going on with her, but she has been AWOL on offense the last 8 games. She is shooting 34% on the year, and that is mostly point blank shots.

I agree. Your main post presence should not be shooting 34% FG. Its unacceptable. She should be the team leader in FG% by a wide margin. Almost all post players lead their team in shooting percentage. She needs to be in the lower 50% range at the very least. If you want someone shooting 34% you have plenty of guards that can hit that from 3-pt range -- which is 50% EFG and much better anyway. Your teammates lose confident throwing the ball into you when you're shooting 1/3 from the field from effectively layup range. I realize post scoring also means scoring on post defenses, but that's why you also go the foul line more than all the other players -- and fouled shots dont count as FGAs unless you make the shot.
