Perspective

The LaSalle loss was terrible, one of the worst in years. Plain and simple. Most of us expected to play poorly like we always do but there's no reason to lose that game. Also, the loss seems worse because we yet again fall out of the Top 25 after just one week.

I came across a stat that really surprised me. UD hasn't lost back to back games since January 29th, 2014. That loss was at home against St. Joes and the last loss before we won 10 of our next 12 leading into the Elite 8 run. Since then, UD has yet to lose back to back games. Not many programs can say that over the course of 2 years.

The point of it is that losses, even bad ones, happen. There are going to be bumps in the road and slip ups that happen but this team has shown resilience and they will come back from this.

We are 12-3 (2-1) with an RPI of 18 and a HUGE week ahead against RPI's 33 and 34 with Davidson and GW at HOME. The Flyers will bounce back, take care of business this week and be right back atop the A10 and in position for a great seed going forward.

It is easier to take a "bad" loss when a "bad" team plays over their heads or really just plays well. That was not the case on Saturday. LaSalle did a good job at executing the game plan that could possibly get them a win but I would not say they played well. I would bet the coaching staff would like to have this one over. Sure if the players had been a little smarter with the ball and made a few more shots, we would not be talking about this as a loss but rather like the Duq game where a win was a win. However, it was apparent that we were playing in a funk and need to change things. Something to change the rhythm of the game. I know we are not a zone team but there is a time to try it. Press a little more. Something, anything.

I know this is going to start the discussion down a path that I really don't want to go down but this was what frustrated most about BG. The game plan was to just do what we do better. Archie has done a great job and the season is far from over but this was deja vu all over again.

Is it possible to both have perspective and be fired up at the same time? That is where I am still regarding this game. The next game can't come fast enough.

The LaSalle loss was negatively unexpected.

Now we need to do something positively unexpected.

We enter the hardest 3 game stretch of A10 play, and second hardest stretch of our season behind only Orlando. Our next 3 opponents have an RPI of 30, 35 & 56. This is a major crossroads in our season.

We need to go 3-0 to make up for the bad loss. Then I will feel OK.

If anyone thinks that LaSalle was not a bad, bad loss, look what it did to us in the poll and what others think of the loss. We dropped to 1 vote - tied with St. Bonaventures - who we play at SBU in three games. With Davidson and GWU coming up next at home, we need to win both games so we have a big momentum going to SBU on 1/19/16 and win there. That might get us back to #25 but more importantly it will bring the confidence back.

As quickly as we deemed Kendall the odd-man-out of the starting five, we may've missed his physicality and fire just enough to lose this one. Where is the "fire" source when he's not on the floor? Kyle? Kyle's efficiency has been off in recent games. Way off imo. Kyle needs to tighten his game up because when he plays sloppy, so goes the team. What's that tell me? Kyle is the leader of this team. Just not wearing the hat like a senior. We need Pollard more than ever.

Edit: such a leader I'm calling him a senior when he's a junior. He's sure made a mark while he's been here.

Should say that since Scooch has been off I think it really adds the pressure to the ball handlers and scorers in the offense. Scooch is the head of the monster. Since Crosby has been playing better the light seems to have swung to identify our other ball handlers/scorers as being the reason we have trouble scoring the ball in crunch-time.
