BEVERLY HILLS (MI) – In life, surprises are always nice. But if you’re like me, there is something to be said about looking forward to a big day or event –
it’s all about the anticipation! Whether it’s putting out cookies and milk for Santa; waiting for the ketchup to come out of the Heinz bottle; anticipating the opening day of fishing season; looking forward to retirement or hoping that your vacation will finally happen, counting down the days is sometimes more fun than the actual event itself.
On Saturday, the annual Red & Blue scrimmage signals the beginning of another Flyer hoops campaign. While the game itself means absolutely bupkus, like the first robin in spring, it is a sign of bigger things to come. Granted, we won’t get to see Josh Cunningham (knee surgery) or Darrell Davis (death in the family) perform, but so what – bring it on.
A week or so later the “secret scrimmage” vs. Purdue will take place at an undisclosed gym somewhere in deepest, darkest Indianapolis. We won’t hear much about it, but the run will allow Archie to benchmark his squad vs. a formidable Big Ten team.
Six days hence, the guys suit up against SVSU in their one and only exhibition game and then things get real in a hurry.
One other date to circle on the calendar is December 22nd which is when Dyshawn Pierre should make his first appearance of the season in a Dayton uniform, according his fellow Flyer captains:
