Mo Alie-Cox
For those that don't know, the former VCU big is playing for the Indianapolis Colts as a TE. On 10/28, he made an amazing catch to score his first NFL TD.

Mo Allie-Cox was a beast on the boards and in the paint. He had all the makings of a great tight end. I wish him the best...heck of a competitor.

I've always wondered why guys like this stick with their sport, when it's clear they aren't making the pros in their current sport but have a chance at another. Imagine if he had 2 years of college football under his belt.

Perhaps because he was on scholarship at VCU, who knows if he would have/could have picked up a scholarship elsewhere for football coming out of HS.
Don't know how much he makes on the practice squad, certainly a good chunk of change now that he's on the 53 man roster.... I assume he could have made good money playing overseas in basketball. More? Less? No clue.

He could also be talking about even after a player's first couple years in college when it's probably quite evident that player's going no further....He can always quit the program and transfer into their football program as a walk-on or transfer to another school. Obviously, so much depends on other factors with financial having a huge stake more times than not..
I'd be interested to know if Cox was a football stud in HS. Having been out of the game for 3-4 years is alot but he certainly maintained size and athletic ability..

Use to be 3 years and so many games on the roster the 4 th year to qualify for the player pension. If he can meet that requirement he’ll have healthcare and retirement money. Probably don’t get that playing b-ball overseas.

This article states Mo played football only his freshman year of high school and then transferred to Middleburg Academy because he wanted to play basketball and felt it would give him the best opportunity. Other good stuff in here including the "Mo Mantra"

Another good article on Mo more geared toward his academics

His body has two to three years less mileage on it. That, plus probably basketball was his favorite sport were reasons to stick with basketball.
Honestly, football is probably the easiest of the three major sports to "pick up" from a technical standpoint. If you are athletic and have the size/skill, they'll find you. Reason one why kids should play soccer and other sports instead of pee wee football.

The last time he played football was his freshman year of HS.
He was picked up undrafted last season. Dealt with injuries and has been added and dropped a few times.

One thing is for sure - he doesn't look nearly as huge out there on the professional gridiron as he did on the basketball court!
I hated watching him tear us up, but I don't recall hearing anything negative about his as a student, athlete or human being. I hope he succeeds. And, going by that one-hander, he has some potential!

For those who care about this. MAC scored a td today vs the Jags.
Has scored in both of his last 2 games.

There are some opposition players in the A10 whom you have great respect and admiration. Mo is one of those players. You wished he played for UD, but acknowledged what a tough competitor.
I’m glad he is doing well in the NFL.

Mo is the consummate competitor. He always played his butt off, and even being the opposition, I admired him for doing so. You can tell he is the same type of competitor in the NFL.
