GW 1 Match

UD wins first set 26-24. Flyers go up 10-4, then get out-played to go down 22-24. TH calls his second time out and the Flyers fight off 2 set points and finish it off with a 4-0 run.

TCU transfer Paty Valle is not playing for GW. Josie and Bridget handling the setting for the Flyers.

This team is so inconsistent. They play at a high level and at times look so ordinary.

UD up 2-0 winning S2 25-15. This was probably one of our best sets played this year. We continued to build the lead as follows:

5 points @ 8-3
6 points @ 10-4, 12-6, 15-9
7 points @ 17-10, 18-11
8 points @ 20-12, 23-15
9 points @ 24-14
10 points @ 25-15

Only 3 times in that entire sequence did GW score 2 consecutive points. We shut the down and for the most part got a side out when they served. Thatís what you want to see. Consistent pressure and low errors. - only 4 errors after we reached 8 points.

Well we go the sweep and swept both road matches which is what we needed to do this weekend. GW made us work for it. JPete paced us as usual as the main cog. I thought Moore may have played her best offensive match of the year -- the third set we really worked her hard on the slide and she was pounding nails. Not sure we've seen that from her this year. Earlier in the year we seemed to play her more like Flete or Choc Thunder as the holding middle for quickies. But she was more dangerous offensively on the move today. You cant coach her size. If she can work on her movement/speed and show a knack for that slide hit on a routine basis, she can be a serious weapon.

Josie is, on paper, our 3rd string setter and she's running the show at the moment with Doherty alongside. Either Brooke is injured or Horsmon is on the warpath for some consistent passing.

Resting Brookes shoulder. Her dad said she was only 80% from her surgery.

UD sweeps winning 3rd 25-21. Going home 5-0 in the conference. More work to be done, but hereís a couple things we did well this weekend...

1. Peterson is money when she goes down-the-line. It sure looks like they have been working on that, because no one could stop it. On the flip side, it looks like they have been working on Jamie tipping from the middle back attach when the block is there. That shot needs more work. Most of the time she sent it short into the net.

2. Both Amelia and Rachael running the slide. Both players crushed some slide attacks this weekend and I donít remember seeing too many errors on that shot. Iím sure there were a couple, but for the most part the slide is looking much better and working.

3 Block - still a work in progress. Too many times the ball is ending up between our blockers and the net - on our side. Thatís a kill for the other team. Probably a combination of either not getting our hands over the net, or timing the jump too soon so when the ball hits our block, we are already on our way down from the jump and we bring the ball with us. Block is still a work in progress.

4. The entire hitting Corp needs to work on the cut shot. This is the hard angle shot that travels parallel with the net and lands inside the 10í line. Iíve seen no one hit that shot this year. We need to be hitting 3-4 of those a match to open up the cross court shots. In the hittersí defense, this is a hard shot. In the past some of our great hitters never had this shot until their Junior or senior years, including POY Lauren Burns, Rachael Kraybacher, Alaina Turner, etc. same with MBs Z, Campbell and Novacek when they would hit that shot on the slide. Iíd like to see someone hit it before year end.

Finally, Amelia had a good weekend coming back from a head injury. She was wearing a protective wrap on her head. She played well both matches and will be in the running for ROW honors. Jamie will probably win Offensive POW. She scored 26.5 points today in 3 sets - almost 9 points a set. She had a double-double against GMU.
