Golden Veteran's Day Award - Coppin St
God Bless all our active and former men/women in uniform! We truly do live in a great country!
With that said, Coppin St was the worse team I've ever seen, including CYO 2nd grade girls. Writing them a check just to show up and play like that had to kill Neil because he didn't get his money's worth and he know UD will have a difficult time making up RPI/NET points with them on our record.
Regardless, we have to award some Gold to one of our beloved Flyer for last night's efforts...so vote away! Poll closes in 48 hrs.
Go Flyer! My team!!
King Rollo the Grateful...OUT!

Ryan Mikesell had a good game, no doubt; but Topping just brings so much to this team. He has that "paint presence" that we have not had since Big Steve. He is big, mobile, and can put the ball on the court. I can only imagine how good he can become over the next four years. He is going to present mismatch problems for virtually every opponent over his career.

Love Obi, and realize what a difference-maker he has been so far this year, but I need to go with Mikesell for last night’s game. Not just for the points and boards, but for his steadying presence on the floor. He played like a guy in his 4th year of college. Contrast that to the guy who we saw on the court in Archie’s last 2 years. The boy is now a man. And last night, he was Da Man.

I never fall into the stat trap. Did not vote vote Obi last game, and almost did this game. Obi does so much out there that you cannot measure, but so does Mikesell, and he gets my vote. Mikesell played with a calmness that has to rub off on his teammates. This is becoming a great passing team, because all five starters can pass and love each other, and it starts with Mikesell.
I was so frustrated how slow our big guys have been over the last couple of years rotating defensively to the corner. To make a feeble jog toward the shooter is not defense. Obi gets it. Obi gets to the corned right now every time. As for only getting one rebound, Obi had good reasons. No team ever won a game with more rebounds and less points. Not sure why Grant played him so high on offense all night, but the kid can play there, or anywhere. Drawing the other teams big away from the basket, lets you do a lot of good things.
Can't wait to see how we match up in the Bahamas.

Stick with Obi. Autocorrect doesn’t change it.
Thought ball movement was much better when chip was in.

Mikesell, while his numbers are nice, his presence is invaluable. You could see an obvious difference when he was on the bench.

Led the team in +/- with +38, along with Jordan Davis but in 2 minutes less time, so a higher per40 average.

Did they still get paid? If so, by whom - UD or the Battle of Atlantis?

Doesn't mean much since CSU was so bad, but went with Mikesell just because of the rebounds. Obi needs more than 1.

Obi was channeling his inner Huelsman. There were at least 5 rebounds off the top of my head that I can remember that he could have had the rebound, but continued to box out so another Flyer could grab the board.

His playing and numbers trajectory fresh to junior/senior will be similar and akin to Devin Oliver. Maybe better..
Hes arrived and is surely invaluable what he gives us.

A couple of questions:
Since this game was scheduled for UD as the mainland game for The Battle 4 Atlantis
(a) did Neil have a say in choosing the opponent
(b) did UD write a check?

Neil had no say in the mainland teams
I believe Atlantis pays the guarantee which is why we get dregs. Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Virginia just want the extra game, they don’t care about the NET from one buy game

We will get another mainland game like this for Maui next year if past form holds with how they’ve been running it
Coppin is dead weight but that’s the price to get Butler and potentially Virginia on a neutral court.

Voted obvious Mikesell. I have a feeling Ryan is likely to lead in many post game polls.

Voted for Mikesell. After reading Tom Archdeacon's article this morning, he is more than deserving and you can tell he is having fun again and it is rubbing off on his teammates!

Not totally weighted down

I would further suggest that with a young team, the positive impact on experience, development of individual player, and team chemistry, were benefited greatly from playing Coppin State. And that helps to prepare for the butler or other Atlantis opponents. Therefore, not totally dead weight.
