This was almost as bad as the SLU Senior Night game. No energy, no passion, no confidence, can't make free throws, can't play defense, and lay a big fattie in a must-win conference game on your home court.
The UD bench and even Archie just looked sad and depressed, even in the first half. The Arena again basically sounded like a funeral parlor except for the student section and the band. Something is going on with this team...

I've never heard Bucky and Larry sound so discouraged and defeated.
Sad.

This team looks nowhere near like the team from Maui. I don't get it at all. Sibert talked big before the season began and now he's invisible.

Words can not describe my frustration with this team. There was no energy from the Arena except for the Student section. I can't believe people can't stand up and try to rally this team. Funeral parlor is a good way to describe it.

What do you expect from the lower arena, the average age down there has to be like 76...

Only so much you can expect from the crowd when UD gets dominated from the middle of the first half till the end of the game. See the Saint Louis game for further reference.

Our game plan:
Screw free throws. Shaq didn't need them, so neither do we.
Generating turnovers? What for?
Protect the ball? Eh, I'd rather gift wrap it and kick it to the other team.
Make a basket in the paint? Huh?
I'd love to say "wait til next year", but the bottom line is, we're looking bad with worse signs of hope. For the optimists out there, say what you want. We're in major trouble.

This is absurd. I've said it once and I'll say it again - a crowd rallies behind a team. A team that is flat will absolutely lead to a flat arena. Not much to cheer for.

He needs to join them. Anyone else see what happened after timeouts? Usually it resulted in pain for our Flyers. Shake owned AM, plain and simple.

When Price is off or ineffective we are screwed.
When 4/5 slot is ineffective - doubly screwed.
When Vee and DMO go missing in action, as seniors. We are baked, done.
I've been MOST disappointed in Vee the past 5-6 games. As mentioned in other posts DMO isn't built for star player mode. He's a great rebounder, hustle guy with some points thrown in.
Really missing Kavs and Gavs. I' d about give up on Scott for this year.
Play Kavs, Jalen and Gavs rest of the way. With some Pollard for added defensive intensity .

not too often have I said in the Arena that the other team played harder and tougher. IMO the defining play of the game was the first VCU possession of the 2nd half. Guy airballed the shot and DMO grabbed the board and then Brandenburg ripped the ball out of his hands.
Pierre came out ready for a fight but no one else did ... and it showed.

Richmond was favored to beat UMass and they did. We get favored to beat teams at home and we don't. I'll take 8-8 right now and move to next year but there does not appear to be any hope there either.

I've also seen enough to conclude that our "stellar" freshman class isn't so special. Kyle Davis will never play much here, Scoochie has some ability but seems to be uncomfortable playing Archie's style, and I'm beginning to think that Kendall Pollard is the second coming of Frank Iguodala.

Joe, I'm not that down on the frosh, but:
-Davis needs to develop a shot before he can expect to play serious minutes, and
-I agree completely about Pollard at this point. Everything I've seen indicates we've located Frank's never-before-identified half-brother. Solid defense. Great energy. Outtasight hops. No offense whatsoever.

Northwest, I'm with you, but I was there tonight, in the lower Arena, in my usual seat, and I could only find a handful of times when I found anything worth standing-up and cheering for. AM's game plan seemed to be to take the air out of VCU and their Havoc style. In the end, it seemed that all our team did was take the air out of the crowd and wreak havoc on our chances for a victory.
On the way home from the game, I was as depressed about the future of this program as I've been since the final days of the JOB era. I hope this group (coaches as well as players) can give me a reason to change my outlook over the next 6-7 weeks.
And 1 final disclaimer here: I'm in my early 50's, but I've been part of the Flyer Faithful since the days of Donny May, Dan Obravac, and the rest of that wonderful '67 team. So I don't need a shot of Geritol to get out of my seat.

Flyers are now 107-39 at home in the A10 regular season. Losing to VCU by 14 is tied for 5th worst home A10 loss.

You said it! The guys played better against better competition in Maui than they'll face the rest of the year, with the possible exception of STL.
So, what's up with all of that? I'm not smart enough to know, so I hope the basketball smart folks on this board can tell me.

I didn't see much energy from the arena when we rallied back to within 6. Pretty quite place. The difference in fan bases is some will try to get up and rally a team when they are down. Others come and sit and wait to be entertained. It's our home court, at least folks should clap when we make a basket, there is nothing absurd about that thought.
The place was dead on TV (with the exception of the student section, which looked into it). No energy from the court or the stands.

Even when we rallied back to within 6, we were not in the game. Still, absurd to blame a fan base that most teams can only dream of having.

Fair enough, just haven't heard much from the decibel dungeon in a while. There was a lot more reason to groan than cheer. It didn't look good on the TV in the stands or on the court.
Gotta get some wind back in the sails somehow. Perhaps we should start throwing batteries at the opposing team.

Observations from the VCU message board:
I saw a stat last night that it was the 229th game in a row where they had 11K or more in attendance. That's an impressive number. That being said, it sure was a quiet crowd. Did they ever get hype for anything during the game?
The Dayton crowds are always quiet except for the students. They show up but don't cheer much. One of their fans told me that I was standing too much and making too much noise at our first four game there in 2011. I told him "this isn't the opera" - he tn around and went back to his seat.

I wonder if that was the fat ****er with the Ram hat who was standing in the aisle next to 214, who was singing and yelling for most of the game. At one point, I said to the guy sitting in front of me, "I wonder if sheep can swim..."
