Zfactor will be quadruple crying in his wine cooler in the next 72 hours. Zavier loses to Gonzaga, Kris Maxx-Hester goes to Indiana then hopefully the superfecta occurs, Jayvon Blewitt and Edgar Summer declare for the draft.
University of Zavier Gangsters are in for a long week

Not trying to pick any fights here, but I need to say this: at this point, given the news in the past 12 hours about our beloved Flyers, I really don't give a flying (fig) about this year's tournament. I really don't.

Oregon is a great example of an excellent coach, Dana Altman, who could not recruit the top guys at Creighton, in a smaller conference, MVC, and took the leap to Oregon, and is getting much better players and success.

Creighton seems to be doing alright post-Altman. In fact, they have Four NCAA tourney appearances in the last six years. Three NCAA tourney wins.
Very similar performance to the great Archie Miller. Archie had four NCAA tourney appearances in his six year period and four NCAA wins (outside of UD Arena).

So a NCAA win at the Arena doesn't count as a NCAA win? Sounds like you are trying to minimize AM's record. Don't see a * in the recordbook.

It counts, but ya think there might be a small advantage playing on your home court? And it's a play-in game.

If I were Dana Altman i'd be crying in the shower right now. His team really made a ton of mental errors down the stretch. There's nothing worse than giving up an offensive rebound on a freethrow down the stretch in a tight game. But to have the same guy give it up twice in the last 15 seconds is just devastating. Just a ton of dumb/sloppy play in that last 30 seconds. It's a shame too because Oregon actually had the better athletes and maybe the better team overall. They just didn't put the effort in to keep carolina off the boards. And that was true all game.
I'm rooting for Gonzaga. It would be great to see two consecutive non-football schools win the championship.

Re: Oregon-UNC. Neither team deserved to win the game. Oregon most certainly deserved to lose the game.
Im with Flyer '95. It would be awesome if Gonzaga wins it. Im rooting for them. If the Power 5 had their panties in a wad last year what happens if it's TWO years in a row? I hope a non-Power 5 wins titles to the end of time.
Unless its _avier.

Technically, W_Y is in the P5+1 now, so they're not in the same strata as Gonzaga. The Bulldogs are in a true M-M conference.
And, yes: Go Zags!

To me what separates The Big East from the Power 5 is the Power 5 play football the Big East doesn't. The Power 5 have Waaaaaaaaaaaaay more resources at their disposal from Football.
For me its still the Power 5 and everyone else.

I agree but I would qualify it:
1. P5
2. BE
3. A10-AAC-other leagues that get two or more bids regularly
4. Everybody else, aka one bid leagues

The amazing thing about the OR/UNC game was that Oregon had its chances and Brooks and Dorsey both played terribly. If one or both of them played well they may win that game going away. Now, I thought UNC did a great job defensively on those guys so credit to them for forcing the two of them into less than stellar games.

Don't forget that OR lost one of their best bigs in the Pac10 tournament with a torn ACL. If they don't lose him, may have been a totally different story.

Things were even on that end. Hicks and Berry, for UNC, had their worst games of the year. Berry is so crippled, you wonder if he should be playing. His coach probably knows that 75% of Berry is better than anyone on the bench.

The big Polish kid may be able to neutralize Meeks. Something the big kids on Oregon could not. Those guys can block shots but they are not physical enough. Wow, I wish UD had guys like any of those.

Looking forward to the game and watching the Polish National Team center play Kennedy Meeks. Would love to have had the opportunity to see Big Steve playing him.
Last April, the Tarheels lost on a last second prayer that went in and gave the championship to a Catholic school. Will it happen again?

If Gonzaga actually blocks out and keeps UNC off the boards, i think they'll win. I wasn't blown away with UNC's talent level. Oregon actually had better athletes and talent. They just didn't play smart.
Does Gonzaga ever play zone? Because that gave UNC fits. They didn't know what to do against that matchup zone.

Go Zags. I root for any non-football school. Meeks only shows up half the time, so it is his turn to play passively. However, how do you not get up for this game?

Bogus flagrant gives Karnowski his fourth foul.
But I'm sure these refs are just "doing their best".

Zags go down. Pretty much lost it in the opening minutes of the 2nd half. Sleepwalked through the first 3 minutes, allowing the Heels to go on an 8-0 run. Never led by more than 3 again, and spent most of the half down or tied.
Nice run, Zags! Maybe next year?

It was painful watching Karnowski repeatedly miss shots from inside 4 feet.
And, for that matter, I saw the shot chart for the Heels after the game. One huge blob of light blue within 6 feet of the hoop. I think they only made 5 or 6 shots from beyond 6 feet all night.
That game had all the aesthetics of a soccer match between 2 herds of 3-legged, drunk oxen.

It will be interesting to read our resident officiating experts defense of the **** poor officiating tonight.
I wanted to watch basketball, not three clowns in stripes ruin the flow of the game.

"One Shining Moment" stunk. 50% of it was showing players crying after they lost.

I will be e-mailing the NCAA tomorrow regarding the late scrum under the basket where the UNC player had his hand out of bounds while touching the ball. I saw this after seeing the slo-mo replay saveral times on TV. I would expect they will look at the replay and call the teams back to the floor tomorrow to resume the game from that point forward. No?

Was definitely rooting for the 'Zags. Poor Karnowski, man. Guy polished the whole top of the rim. Telling how he was flawless from the line and one-for-bazillion from the floor. Thought he would be the Z-Factor but he was finally thwarted by size. He shows, Zags win, maybe going away..

Karnowski will be a GREAT pro. College refs wouldn't let the poor guy move without blowing the whistle. Isaac Hass from Purdon't got it even worse.

Here it is: http://www.cbssports.com/college-bas...hining-moment/
I watched it once and don't have the patience to try and find the few frames of Flyers. Have at it.

Dawned on me that he maybe had the jitters due to his dad flying from Poland to see him in the Final. Was he there on Saturday? Didn't hear it. I was rooting for him, especially after how emotional his dad appeared after he got his first fg. I agree that he'll be a great pro.

Have no desire to watch it. The game of college basketball as a whole is devolving from the sport that I grew to love back in the '60s & '70s into something that's almost unrecognizable today.
The purity of a Donald Smith fadeaway, a Jim Paxson back-cut, and a Roosevelt Chapman scoop shot has been supplanted by an activity where the "champion" made less than 20% of its shots from outside 6 feet. No traditional basketball skills (dribble, pass, shoot) needed here. Just chuck the ball in the general direction of the basket, and let a bunch of guys who outweigh the offensive line of Vince Lombardi's Packers form a rugby scrum until someone gets lucky enough to chuck it through the cylinder. And, since "might makes right", Goliath wins. And the sport loses.
"One Cloudy Moment".

Not only "might makes right" but in this case "might" should get nothing short of the death penalty if there is one grain of truth to the academic scandal for which UNC is being investigated. Same goes for Prostitute U in Kentucky. That will never happen, but for reasons stated above the game, as you say, is unrecognizable compared to 20, 30 years ago.

His father was in attendance on Saturday as well.

I'm sad to say, you're probably right about the lack of justice, Radar. As long as might makes right, and the new golden rule is the law of the land ("He who has the gold makes the rules"), the NCAA's money sports will be just one great, big country club. But unlike Bushwood, there are no Al Czerviks (or Carl Spacklers for that matter) out there to dance on their fairway or detonate their putting green.
Regardless, We Are UD! Go UD!

Thanks, didn't see him Saturday. I wonder if Meeks ever gets the best of him again. Hard for me to tell which has the higher ceiling.

I was all in for the Zags, but never understand why people point out the bad game a player had on one team, Karnowski, and not on the other team, Jackson. There is a reason big K is not playing in the NBA. He is slow and cannot jump well. Collins is a stud and competed against UNC bigs, K is a dud, and did not.
The main point of my post is to agree with Tbone. What is this game turning into? That second half was pathetic, and had little to do with my team losing, or even all the fouls. The refs could have called way more fouls and violations. Let's look at the root cause. The bodies are getting so big that the court is clogged for the true basketball players. The players cannot drive or cut or get clear shots, and the refs cannot see around these guys.
I have a radical solution, which will never happen, play four on four.

Jack, I agree that Karnowski is slow, but he has good feet as was noted on Saturday by the color guy. Foreign guys tend to go pro with fewer bad habits and better polished offensive skills than homegrown wide bodies, imo. I think he'll get better in the league when he gets a little quicker. I like his feet and his touch. But he could fizzle and it will be because he is slow, as you noted. You have me re-thinking my position on him.
Edit: I don't recall seeing his shots contested as much as it appeared he was rushing his shots without looking at the goal. Most of his shots were bad misses but I don't remember any shots being blocked.

I actually agreed with Rick Pitino for once this morning. He was talking about the NBA discussions about getting more offense into the game. I'm sure it was during his stint in the NBA, and only one team averaged 100 a game. They were going through a lot of proposals - from 8 seconds to advance the ball to the front court, to a 20 second shot clock. Chuck Daly finally said - "you want more offense, call more fouls." Let players have freedom of movement. Get hands off guys. Let them cut.
Said that's what they need to do to the college game. He put the blame on players for not adjusting and to inconsistency across the college landscape. Said the Seton Hall/Villanova game in the Big East tournament reminded him of the old Georgetown/St Johns games.
What made the NC game so ugly, more so than the officiating, was the abysmal offense both teams ran. Neither could shoot the ball, and half the time they just stood around and someone dribbled the ball 35 feet from the hoop until 8 seconds were left on the shot clock.

Interesting assessment by fellow Poland teammate and Wizard center, Marcin Gortat.
" Gortat: He’s a big, strong dude. It’s not like he’s out there standing and pretending. First of all, he’s a very skilled player. I can handle different things on the court, yes. With him being 300 pounds heavy, I can outrun him, I can outwork him. But at the end of the day, he’s very big and skilled. He’s definitely an NBA player talking about his skills and passing and shooting and ball stuff and knowing the game. His basketball IQ, he’s definitely an NBA player. He’s just got a big issue with his body. That’s going to be the question: Can he make the NBA because of his body?"
