Morehead St Thread
Mid-week match on the road. Team needs to stay focused and put this one away in 3 sets. I don't think we have played that great the last two weeks. We have dropped sets we should have won. Team seems to have lost some focus. It's easy to do when you know you have more talent than other teams in the A10. But if you don't show up mentally, you can lose. Everyone is looking to knock us off.
We have gotten out-blocked the last couple weekends. Not only have we seemed to take a step backward on our blocking, but teams that aren't every good blocking teams have figured something out to stop us with a block.
And, SLU is getting better. They got their injured OH back. She makes them so much better because teams will load up to stop Rygelski and that leaves Okoro with one-on-one swings. Hitters win those match ups. Okoro is also very good in the back row. She can dig and pass and hit from the back. We won't beat SLU if we checkout mentally like we have the last couple weekends. Time to re-focus starting with a sweep of Morehead St.

Just a reminder, this match begins at 6PM. Appears we will be able to watch, don't see a "log in" link.

Morehead should be a blowout much match. They are 9-14 and haven't played much of a schedule.

Flyers win 1st 25-16. When you can keep a team at 15 or fewer points you dominated, so this is a good start.

Flyers 3-0 Perhaps more than expected competition. 25-23 in the third.

I think it's a little mental discipline combined with human nature. After a pretty easy first set the mental brakes get let off a little. I knew a team that won their first set 25-4 and lost the match 28-30 and 14-16 (club). Amazing what relaxing can do for you, both good and bad.
Nice to get a win, no one got hurt, Jamie continues to grow (did you see her receive serve a couple of times??), Bruns played well all match and fantastic in the 3rd, and back home for a big match with SLU. And we're 23-1. We have first world problems. ; )

Watching the streaming of the MSU game and the WSU game earlier couldn't help but notice the clarity of both streams compared to the dayton streams.
Not sure why the Dayton streams seem so low level compared to the Horizon and Ohio Valley streams.

I couldn't get on udpride starting late in the second set. Not sure why? But I was trying to post that they were using Jamie in serve receive. She didn't play back row, but when she came in at the left OH for her first rotation - she is opposite the setter, so Jane was serving.
When Jane was done and we were receiving serve, they hide Jane so she is available to take the second touch and they dropped Jamie back so she could serve receive with Margo and I think Jess. The two times I noticed it, Jamie did a good job passing the ball.
They might have done this last match also because the write up on ROW honor it said she had a 1.000 serve receive percentage last weekend.
Back row skill are the next step for Jamie, so it's good to see she is already moving in the direction of a 6 rotation player. Serve receive is the most difficult skill in my opinion. Until you stand in that back row and have a serve head your way you have no idea how hard it really is. It just doesn't look that hard from the stands, but it is.
