Saint Louis Game Thread
All I got to say is... Rise up boys through adversity! Play Dayton Flyer Basketball... Hard Nose Defense and plenty of enthusiasm and heart... Go get a road win on Tuesday.
Game is at 8 PM on Tuesday and will be shown on the CBS Sports Network.
Starting Lineup:
G 10 Aaron Hines 6’0” 175 JR St. Louis, MO
G 11 Jermaine Bishop 6’1” 160 FR Queens, NY
G 32 Mike Crawford 6’4” 200 JR Tipton, IN
G 3 Ash Yacoubou 6’4” 215 RS SR Bronx, NY
F 35 Reggie Agbeko 6’7” 240 JR Buffalo, NY
They will be ready to play after we clocked them by 36 at the Arena earlier this year.
I Believe! Go UD!

We need to do a better job of playing defense without fouling. SLU likes to get a lot of their points at the free throw line. Steve in particular needs to be okay with giving up a bucket to avoid getting a foul. He's so valuable to us, and they have nobody who can guard him. Nobody. He just has to be big. I don't care if he gets any blocks Tuesday. I hope he is able to give us 25-plus minutes. If he does, we win going away.

Forget the motivational and distracting cheerleader pics, we needs some of Stone Cold Steve Austin's attitude from here on out!!
Why?
Cuz King Rollo said so!

*which is why I included them in the last Golden Rollo poll
If you read the DDN article about tonite's game and have the Royal ability to read between the lines as well as take a hint from those who know more than the average jock sniffer, you can with confidence figure out that Archie and Pollard want to play but the medical staff* is saying 'no'.

Big Game for SLU
This is the biggest home game of the year for Saint Louis. They admire and compete fiercely with UD. The Flyers will get their "A" game especially after they were embarrassed in the Arena earlier this year. UD will have to match their intensity to get a road win.

7-0...horrible start. No defense; two turnovers; desperation shot at the end of shot clock. This team is in a funk already.

Foul number one on Big Steve. Arm bar call. Sam Miller coming in...mass substitutions. The hook is quick tonight.

Announcers called it right. No defensive intensity. St. Louis wants to win and can win at home. SLU wants this game.

Can we ever, ever make a layup? Archie looks very animated and starting to have a deer in the headlights look. I am starting to sense a panic in the coaching.

D Davis hurt his wrist or arm on that botched lay up. Been motioning to bench. Archie yelling at him to pay attention, and play.

Where did it go? Big Steve is moving around like a chicken with his head cut off. No purpose just wasted effort. Guys missing bunnies and players falling down. What has happened to this team?

We need some outside shooters who can burn a zone or sagging man-to-man. Maybe Mikesell can do that.

Turnover no. 11 for the Flyers - Daryl (I wish I were in Detroit!) Davis with a palming call. It was a legitimate call. He did go high and horizontal with it.

Thank you Bobby W for looking like a basketball player. Looking for a silver lining here and it is that we have a ton of defensive rebounds. Maybe with this time out and Cooke coming back in, things will settle down and we might start not turning the ball over.

The only reasonable excuse for this horrible play is that the whole team snuck out to a bar last night to pick up some SLU girls.

If I were Archie, I would full-court press this team. They don't handle the ball well and we need to get some breakouts.

Pierre with a dreadful pass for over-and-back. Twelve turnovers. Kyle back in. He needs to turn up his game a lot.

What is up with all the guys slipping and sliding on the court? Had same problem at St. Joes.

UD, despite 13 turnovers, takes the lead 13 - 12, and Bobby Werhli is our top scorer.
My God!

Second foul on Big Steve. Bobby Wehrli back in. Flyers up 13-12 with the half waning.

If the US government wants to save money at Guantanamo Bay, they could use this game as a means of extracting information from prisoners. This is torture.

Poor Coaching By Archie and Staff
They cannot seem to coach Big Steve on offense. He needs to be low on the blocks and not hedging all over the court with wasted motion that creates fouls. Let him post low, box out and rebound. Come on coaches turn your brains on!

This is without question- the worst I've see an AM team play since he arrived. It's a good thing this isn't VCU- Dayton would be down by 30

Kyle Davis won't even look at the basket with his defender 8 feet away from him. We can't throw it into the post if all 5 defenders from the other team are standing in the lane.

I think Archie is going to go with Wehrli for the rest of the game instead of Miller and whomever. I don't care if we are winning or not. This is pitiful. We should be up by 31 points. No maybe not. We would only give up a 31 point lead. Can someone shoot the ball. Pierre is doing nothing except rebounding.

First team to 30 (maybe only team) wins it.
What a total embarassment. There almost has to be something internal going on with this team.

17-13, Billikens lead. Scoochie is on the line for two shots. This is scary given his recent history.

Dayton is completely dysfunctional offensively. Losing sucks, but I can accept it when being outplayed. But this is unenjoyable to watch. It's a disaster.
SLU keeps collapsing when UD gets the ball in the lane, yet when the ball's kicked out UD has no idea (or desire) of what to do.

Down at the half 19 - 14.
Honestly, I am trying to think of a worst first half, and I am having trouble even though I have been following the Flyers since the late '60s.

All we need to do is return the 2nd half kickoff for a TD and we're in this game!
Oh, wait...

Bobby Werhrli with an ugly dislocation of his finger with 2 seconds to go in the half. Archie is obviously peeved. He is really peeved at Scoochie and Daryl. He is working their minds at this point.

Down and let's play for the last shot. The dumbest play in basketball. Dribble at half court and get a lousy shot. Just run the offense.

Really glad that St. Louis missed those two extra points. All UD needs to do is shut out SLU and get a touchdown and they can pull this one out.
