Son of "Fright Night"

BEVERLY HILLS (MI) – Three years ago, “From the Swamp” enlightened you on the meaning of the term “Fright Night” as it applies in the medical world. It went something like this:

July 1st in the medical profession is often referred to as “Fright Night.” The reason being that on this date, all of the new interns, residents and doctors at every teaching hospital across the country assume their new positions for the first time, simultaneously. As my sister the nurse, a grizzled veteran of many a “Fright Night” at UMass Medical Center put it:

“July 1st is almost upon us, when 1st years are turned out and walk amongst us.”

At the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern Memorial Hospital in downtown Chicago, a young intern will take her first steps to becoming an orthopedic surgeon.

Good luck, Dr. Chambers!

Meanwhile, in the world of college hoops recruiting, July 1st means the beginning of another evaluation period and lots or miles for players and coaches alike. It’s hardly, a “Fright Night” situation, but a meaningful milepost, nonetheless.

Same deal this time around, except the Younger Dr. Swampette will be a 4th year Resident and move further up the food chain at Northwestern Memorial.

Elsewhere, here is what the old intrawebs have for us to reflect upon, hoops and otherwise:

-- David Jablonski of The DDN took a page out of Larry Hansgen’s book -- literally -- and has published is own "Son of" tome, entitled True Team Two, available on an internet near you:
