Torrey Patton
With McKinley Wright and Naziah Carter getting their releases, any thoughts on whether the kid out of Trotwood, Torrey Patton is worth going after? Has picked up Miami, Akron and Duquesne offers in the last couple of days.

Haven't seen the kid play, but saw a number of comments in the paper from coaches who were surprised that he hadn't gotten any more attention at the D-I level. I say, if he'll fit in AG's system, and it wouldn't be in his best interest to get out of town (sometimes it's bad to stick close to your posse), then he may be worth a look. But I'm definitely a "low information voter" here.

Wow, this kid is 6'4", handles the ball well, shoots from downtown, and has a superb spin move. Not to mention, he sees the court well and can get up and down the court...why would this kid be overlooked? It appears to me he could play the point. Is he the Norris (underappreciated) Cole of 2017? Check out this video, especially the spin moves and behind-the-back moves. He is impressive.

Is this the kid who scored something like 38 points in the State Championship game? If so, his coach and the opposing coach are flabbergasted he hasn't received more offers.

Only thing I see is that he goes out of his way to shoot it with his right hand every time. There were 10-15 shots/ layups from the left side of the lane in that video and everytime he went with the right or tried to go under the rim for a reverse layup. With the D1-athlete trees patrolling the lanes that would be block-city everytime.

We just lost a SG/SF type player, so we could be looking to add there too.

He can definitely pass. Had 11 assists at an event he played at this past weekend. But more of a combo guard at 6'4." Similar size to Frankie Hughes who we know Grant has expressed interest in.
In my opinion, top priority is a PG. Next would be a rim protector center. And third would be another guard. But we may have as many as four scholarships open.
Basically, the only position I would say is likely a pass would be like a grad transfer forward. A stud at that position who has to sit a year would be fine however. Because in 2018 stretch options X and Mikesell and Miller would all be seniors, and Cunningham could always walk as a grad transfer.

If he is a 6'4" point guard, that good and in our own backyard, there has to be a reason why AM, and other schools for that matter, did not go after him. Maybe AM and his staff knew AM was leaving but I don't think that is the reason. There must be some reason.

Look at the offers he had, not exactly powerhouse schools and no where near our level. That's telling.

He had none two weeks ago. Now he's adding MAC and A10 offers. Two weeks from now he could be adding Big ten offers. That stuff happens all the time. Aubrey Dawkins and Caris Levert are two who come to mind that UD offered late. They had low level offers only leading some to question why UD would waste a scholarship offer on them. Then Michigan comes in and snatches them up.

Trying to wrap my head around this. Pretty much every guy in Dayton from 8-to-80 can hit the bunny off the dribble. We were learning our cross-overs while other kids were learning to pronounce Washington w/o the 'R' sound. Pitouey!

I'm guessing he probably has a ud scholarship offer now. I'm sure that Anthony is checking this board several times a day for a list of players he needs to sign.
Seriously though, you never know when a potentially great player can just fall into your lap. I used to work with someone who coached in trotwood, wish I could ask about Torrey. I do know that earlier in the year the ud staff was attending trotwood practices.
Anthony has a major problem right now regarding recruiting because he is by himself as far as I know. What a daunting task to contact players already committed and also looking for players to fill the gaps left by those backing out of their commitment.

I saw him play when Trotwood came to Fairborn this year. The game started with Fairborn hitting several 3's and some inside shots. Midway in the 1st period it was almost like Patton said that will be enough of that and Trotwood was off to the races. His spin move is spectacular. I swear if you blink you will miss it. He scored several times on it. he seems like a great passer. He scored behind the line, a short jumper inside and by driving to the basket. Fairborn is by no means a powerhouse, but they had some good players and had a good season. I would take him in a heartbeat to bolster our guard situation. I don't know anything about him other than what was on display in Fairborn and that was all good,

Patton has a couple younger team mates who could become real studs in the basketball recruiting game. Based on what Fairborn fan said above, he might be worth a shot, plus might just re-open a nice little recruiting pipeline to keep the Trotwood kids at home.

The previous regime watched him play, if he doesn't have an offer now there is a reason. I hope they are right
The previous women's vball coach sent one of his coaches to watch a potential new player and he returned, saying he wasn't impressed. The head coach (Sheffield) saw her play and told him "I should fire you for not seeing her potential (or something to that affect). They swooped in and signed her at the last minute. I think Megan was a 2nd team all american

Or he will go to Duquesne and we will see why that was his best offer.

I think we might be missing the boat on this kid. Anytime you have a 6'4" player who can handle the ball as he does, stroke the three-ball, and run the court, you have the ingredients of a good guard. I am afraid this one might bite us in the butt.

Bump. Will be interesting to see Patton. He's starting as a freshman for Akron. Averaging 5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Kid should be pretty fired up for this one, playing in his hometown, going against a program that never really showed interest.
