Rhode Island
Happy with the win that Jenna only played 16 minutes- young lady helped by getting some rest and hope others especially Kelley can get some rest Saturday. URI lost to St. Joe today by 26 and the big story was their star player Wilson didn't play breaking a streak of 79 straight starts. I'd play Lauren a lot Saturday and say shoot, shoot, shoot just find your shot. More minutes for Andi in this one as well.

Typical Dayton feed. Never start on time or even 10 min early like most programs do

Two min into game and still no feed. Not a more imcompetent program at streaming....and don't say its A-10 fault as they stream all other programs and start 10 before game.

Can get the LaSalle v GM game okay. Good vid. Guess Dayton didn't think the game was worth spending air time on.
Yep got game tracker and radio, mine cuts out as well.

That is a bad offensive team. They could not score against our second team. Szabo in already in the second quarter. 49-17 at the half.
The video finally started working.

To be fair URI is used to standing around and watching Wilson do everything...so when she isn't suited up they don't have anyone else.

Pretty much like an exhibition game, at home against a terrible terrible, team missing their best player. Nice that Green showed mercy. Kelley had 16 in just 12 minutes. We could have won by 50 had we played the starters more.
Rpi now at 67 and not likely to improve a whole lot as the league is weak with only GW inside the top 100 at just 64.
Learned a little more about the reserves from the extended playing time. LC played well, hitting her threes which is most of her game. Wilmouth has a long way to go but may have a future over the next years but is unlikely to be a star. Jayla has a lot of game but is a ball hogging second coming of Celeste Edwards who also never saw a shot she didn't like, and needs to be more team oriented as evidenced by her near team low shooting percentage. Parkinson is getting walk on minutes and would not be a shock to see transfer.
Losing SGA and Kelley will be hard to replace. Adding in CM and AC we will have at least 4 roster spots and only Breem incoming. Not sure when Ward is eligible. We seem very thin for next year at this point.

Ward will play in January according to Shauna. I thought she might be able to play after grades are posted for the fall semester (like Kostas was able to practice), which would mean some late December games, but perhaps a transfer is treated differently than a partial qualifier.
Shauna said she wants the players to shoot it. She sees how they shoot in practice. They practiced in the Arena this week because they had been shooting better on the road than at home and thought that would help their comfort level at home. I believe Jayla is doing what Shauna wants.
I was happy to see Celeste in the stands with some friends as I was leaving yesterday.

Lauren only had one turnover in 25 minutes and that has to have helped her confidence. Another blowout potential at Davidson so hopefully more reserves get minutes.

Any word on Madeline? Even though both are on scholarship neither have been added to the roster.

Jayla is right there with most of her shots. She needs to get adjusted to the college game, and you can only do that by shooting till you relax and the game slows down. Shauna knows what she is doing by letting her shoot and shoot. No one on the roster has her quickness creating a shot. This will pay off as she will be a star in two years.

My take is that since neither will play this year, they are not on the roster, even though they are on scholarship. Because of their health concerns and the fact they are seniors, I don't believe there are any basketball program requirements of them. I think the goal is for them to graduate.

It was one of those games Dayton needed. RI was horrible. I thought they played well to begin the second half. Dayton was sluggish. Andi came in and gave us a spark on defense. Then one by one the starters came out and we took off again.
I thought we played well defensively. Parkinson made several good defensive plays. Szabo looked good. I wish these would both get more time.
Jenna G. Is hurt and was on crutches. I really thought LC, played well at the point. She did a decent job breaking the press. She shot with confidence and played well defensively.
All in all a pretty good game. It was a team effort.
Go Flyers!

So in summary you are saying that with more pt these non starters will more than likely improve their game and contribute at seasons end .....what a concept

I agree with mad dog that losing kelley and sasha will be large holes to fill. I think Breen will help immediately based upon her tape. I will not be surprised if shauna brings in a couple more good late recruits. It is unusual to have the chance to come into an established program with good support and start as a freshman. Good recruits will have that opportunity right now although nothing is guaranteed

Not seeing a lot of chatter about '17 Dayton recruits but did see this info about a recent offer to '18 recruit Emily Kiser 6'2" F/C.
https://twitter.com/INFlightThunder/...86749101301765
Suspect any '17 additions will come via the JUCO route.

Kiser plays at a very large IN school and is a stud as a junior. She had 21 and 13 rebounds against the @1 big school. She has an offer from Butler.

My daughter in law is Kiser's chemistry teacher. She says Emily is a great kid and the youngest of four girls, all who have received basketball schollies. She will put in a good word with her for UD.

Next year
Recent posts have not mentioned help for Jenna Burdette. Can Jenna Giacone ball handle well enough to run the offense and get the ball up court?
The same for question Szabo. Cannatelli and Scaife seems to be off guards. Do we need a good point guard for next year and beyond. I say yes, and I do not think we need an immediate scorer.

None of those three fill the bill as a PG. Szabo is a walk on. We need a big and we need a point guard. We are loaded with forwards and shooting guards next year.

They have UDPride blocked on Twitter for some reason. I must have said something controversial in the past.

Or maybe they have read the threads regarding players
Regarding help for jenna jack made a post that this was more important than getting a big. I agree with both of you

I have confidence that Lauren can play some point guard in relief next year. I don;t envision Jayla as a point guard - more as a #2 or small #3.

Davidson game thread - future Point guards
Barney - Glad you have confidence in Lauren as possibly next year's # 2 point guard on the roster. Recent quotes on the Davidson game thread seem to question this. Remember, no Kelley next year to help out Jenna.
I agree that Scaife is a 2 or a three. She could play the wing three guard like Amber Deane used to for JJ against smaller frontcourt teams. She could also play the 2 if the coach plays Breem, Harris and Layfield up front for maximum rebounding. (Think we out rebounding Davidson despite our problems)
This whole discussion probably depends on if Coach Green feels Jenna G will be able to fill in for Jenna B.
