Dwight Anderson
I haven't seen this posted elsewhere.
Dwight died this weekend at home. Older fans know this name. He played at Roth and is considered the greatest high school talent to come out of Dayton.
Archdeacon does his usual superb work telling Dwight's tragic story. It's worth a read even if you don't know about this man with phenominal talent. Quotes from his contemporaries. Sedric Toney and John Paxon)
( The article says he was 61, but I found his birth date as 12-28-1960)

I saw Dwight Anderson live at Rupp Arena in Lexington. He was poetry in motion. He had a long stride and could get to the hoop with the greatest of ease. If any of you ever watched Delonte West play, Dwight Anderson was a stronger, taller version of West.

This is the clip of Anderson’s unbelievable shot from behind the basket while at USC.
https://youtu.be/cvmCweujRLU
I saw him play several times for Roth. He was absolutely incredibly talented. His H.S. Career ended unfortunately when he cheap shot’d a kid from Centerville who was about to score on a breakaway layup. Centerville was upsetting heavily favored Roth in the season ending H.S. Basketball Tournament. It was a vicious clothesline and the refs had no choice but to eject him from his final high school game. It was totally out of frustration.

Dwight was the subject of a documentary film that came out some time ago . I haven't seen it but would like to. Anyone seen it? Anyone know if it's streaming anywhere? Here's a trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdD1FMjcKms

I was 3 years behind Dwight, and could never get on the court or asphalt with him.
The only person I saw who could hang with Dwight back then was a guy named Kendall Peagues (from Kiser).
Those Roth teams with Dwight and just after were phenomenal (they won a couple more state titles when Keith Byers was there).
I will never forget watching his coming out party against Notre Dame during his freshman year at KY... go google his dunk on Orlando Woolridge!

I’ve been looking for this documentary for a couple years also. “The Blur”. It’s actually started to bother me that I can’t find it anywhere....

Tremendous. From a what could have been to someone who was able to turn his life around. Just a great watch.
