When Trey has a good game, the chances of winning go up. When he has a bad game the chances of winning go down. He sets the physical and defensive tone. The defense is much weaker when he is out of the game.

I'm the first to admit I missed the boat on Landers. I didn't expect much from him as the season began and actually thought several on this board were crazy for thinking he'd contribute in any meaningful way. I'll keep that in mind next time I try to project out the future on such a small sample size.

Landers was out matched fighting the good fight against the trees of Davidson. I loved it. He did his best and didn't back down. He was physical against them despite being undersized. With experience his fouls will go down.

IMO Landers is a freshman this year.

He's a nice kid, decent player. Should be a valuable sixth man on a good team. Unfortunately he's probably our third best player, emblematic of the challenges we face.

I think Trey Landers has been a pleasant surprise. I think he has the potential to turn out to be a guy who can average 10 points/6 rebounds a game and gives a good defensive effort. Keep in mind that he played few minutes last year and then had off-season surgery. I think he legitimately beat out X for a starting position and I don't see him letting go of that. One thing I like about Trey is he can finish in the paint. That has been such a problem for Flyer front-liners in the past.

That precipitated the embrace Landers said: “I get that a lot from Coach Grant.”

I have been waiting to see if anyone picked up on this. Sounds like the players love AG.

I noticed it and I could be mistaken but I don’t ever recall the same sentiment with AM. I do vaguely remember it with BG though.

Do you work harder for your boss if you like him/her?

AM was definitely not the touchy-feely type. Other than senior nights (brief man hug) the only other time I recall was after cutting down the nets after winning A10 at home and I believe Kyle snuck up from behind and put him in a bear hug...AM gave a quick smile but was back to all business after that.

This is important. I knew Miller was respected... not sure about loved.
It doesn't necessarily win games, but at least you don't lose guys attitudes and players going their own way.

And Landers is a key cog. Now if Williams and Kostas and Crutch love AG, and learn from him - then we're in good shape attitude wise going forward

I noticed the comment when I read the article. In earlier articles, Darrell Davis called it a "blessing" having AG as coach, and another player said something to the effect of he (Anthony) gets it ,"he wore our jersey". The players know he is totally invested in Dayton.

I think the best bosses are both respected and liked, in that order. Respected bosses get results, but if they’re not liked, the staff is more likely to be disgruntled, and thus more likely to quit. Liked bosses generally have happy staffs, but their teams aren’t necessarily productive. Respected + Liked = Productive + Happy (more often than not).

Thanks for sharing. Trey Landers is easy to root for.

I wonder if his brother Tallice, a senior at Wayne averaging like 10 ppg, would be a walk-on candidate. If he's anything like his older brother at Ohio State or Trey, you'd have to think his presence would be welcomed.

Trey a fantastic kid who will persevere and be successful at whatever he does in life. Selfless and a true leader who has lots of really good BB to play at UD in his next 40 plus games. Great to see him contribute mightily to saturday's victory.....

Still kind of mind boggling that Archie didn't see enough in him to give him some kind of meaningful playing time as a freshman. I realize he had a senior laden team, but still. Makes you wonder if he'd still be riding the bench if Archie had stuck around. AG was the best thing that could have ever happened for Trey. Glad his family instilled into the him the value of seeing things through, instead of taking the easy way out when things get tough. Will always be one of my favorite Flyers.

Trey didn't really fit a needed role on that team. He certainly wasn't going to play guard over schoocie, davis, davis or Cooke. In hindsight he likely deserved more time than Crosbey, but I'm sure there was hope that he could take over for Schooch the following season. Mikesell and X were better shooters on the wing, Pollard was Pollard; unfortunately they didn't have Cunningham as much that year as they would have liked, but I'm sure the staff hoped that Sam Miller could fill a roll down low and take over for Pollard the following season.


As a frosh, he just didn't fill a needed role. They had toughness and attitude in spades in Kyle and Pollard. I don't think CAG would have changed that much; we'll never know how he would have filled out under Archie moving forward. Either way, I'm glad he's here.

I think he played with a Sports hernia iirc. It was corrected after his freshman year. I believe we would have beaten VCU at home with Trey. That article really opened my eyes about what he’s had to go through in life. Rooting more than ever for him now. Like RM, I believe he’s glue to this team when facing adversity and believe he’s key to success this year, whats left.
